SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

Well, i think the comic did wonders with some characters i personally didn't care that much about, like Reiko for example, i even feel bad now that he's dead (yeah, even when he was wearing that superhero costume). I would've liked them to actually tie-in the comic with the game, but it works as a separate story too. Now i'm wishing Kittelsen has a great closure for this season, i'm not that into the possessed "good guys" fighting Takeda to be honest :/

Meanwhile i'm hoping Skarlet's not dead and that Havik doesn't get killed :B

Oh, and i think one thing that bothers me a lot, is that they gave these crucial chapters to the worst comic artist of the series, i bet that even that superhero costume of Reiko's would look cool if Dexter Soy or the other guy was the artist :(

I'm still very happy that we have a "new" comic series for MK though, so don't get me wrong :)

Does it seem like Takeda will emerge as the eventual hero of the comics?

When Fujin gave him the Shirai-Ryu mask and kunai-whip (whatever you call it), I felt it was akin to saying "You're no longer the sidekick - go be the Superhero."

Can't wait for his 1st meeting with Jacqui. ;)

Chapter 31 summary ahoy!

Spoiler:
Sheeva and Kintaro reach the shore of Shang Tsung's island, where they quietly watch some Red Dragon soldiers standing around D'Vorah's remains, wondering if the bugs on it are feeding or if she's feeding off of them. As they decide to set the pile aflame, the insects suddenly spring into action and devour the Red Dragon's flesh, killing them! D'Vorah then rises, finally reconstituted and relieved for the first time to see Shokan warriors alive. D'Vorah, however, is still outraged at Kotal Kahn's being taken prisoner and demands to know where Sheeva's ship was. Sheeva explains that Havik has destroyed it and all of their forces that were onboard. But fortunately for the group, D'Vorah explains that Kotal had a back-up plan in case things went wrong; he hid emergency supplies before invading the island, and D'Vorah says that they're going to find and use them to bring in reinforcements.

In Shang Tsung's palace, Havik mocks Takeda through the possessed Cassie and Jacqui as they attack him. Takeda comments on how cute they are, especially Jacqui, but also remarks that while both girls have obviously learned to fight for sport, they never learned to fight for survival--as he then wraps his whips around Cassie and slams her into Jacqui. As Takeda continues to wrestle with both girls and talk about how his growing up around killers required him to learn how to survive, Havik reattaches his severed hand and brings up how that life led Takeda to kill Forrest Fox, who cared a lot for his friend to the very end. Finally knocking both Cassie and Jacqui unconscious, Takeda begins to approach Havik, saying that his trying to push Takeda's emotional buttons won't work because the cleric's already killed everything that matters to him, and he has no feeling left; therefore, the final purpose of his life is fighting Havik. Havik is quick to point out, however, that Takeda has to fight not only him, but also Raiden, Sonya, Johnny, Kotal... and Mileena, who then does a teleport kick on Takeda!

Kotal, Sonya, Johnny, and Raiden all join in pummelling Takeda, shattering his mask and bringing him to his knees; during all of this, Havik continues to mock the young Shirai Ryu through his possessed pawns, saying that he's now fighting veterans instead of rookies and that Hanzo would be disappointed in him. Havik walks up to the defeated Takeda, Shinnok's amulet in hand, and offers him an ultimatum: sacrifice his blood to the Kamidogu and become an agent of chaos, or be reunited with Hanzo. And with that, Havik blasts Takeda with the amulet!

Somewhere, in what appears to be the burning ruins of Hanzo Hasashi's village, Hanzo himself stands among the wreckage as a voice tells him that the fire is home now. Hanzo disagrees, however, saying that the fire is his heart beating and that he's got something to live for. Remarking that wrestling with the source of the voice got him killed, Hanzo's nemesis stands revealed as none other than a darker version of himself, wearing his MK9 alt costume. Scorpion claims that Hanzo can't protect Takeda without him, and the two then charge at each other as their own Mortal Kombat begins!

Only five chapters left now. Where has the time gone?

I'll be honest, the more I read the comics, the more I feel that having Cassie Cage as the sole heroine of MKX in defeating Shinnok was a highly dumb idea.

Thanks for the summary as always, Harpoon!

The Comics make it seem like Takeda should've been the main character. I really believe he was suppose to be, but because Cassie was the leader of the SF team, they just decided to make her the main character.

I actually feel bad for Takeda on this chapter, as he have to survive the assault from the 5 possessed AND experienced kombatants. Although I gotta give him props for taking down both Jacqui (his future gf in the next few years) and Cassie.

Looking forward to the mirror match in his inner thought. Here's the familiar intro(s) from the game's mirror match.

Scorpion: "Hanzo Hasashi...."
Hanzo: "My reflection speaks."
Scorpion: "Your successor in the Netherrealm's service."

or this one:

Scorpion: "Hold Scorpion."
Hanzo: "The sight of you offends me."
Scorpion: "Your death will be swift."

You can instantly tell the change of quality in the art lol. God I hate the other artist.

I don't think the comic has a main character. It just focuses on whoever is relevant at the time. Cassie already had her spotlight in the Black vs Red Dragon bit.

If anything, Kotal and Scorpion seem to be the most prominent characters.

I'm definitely loving the fact that they brought Sheeva and Kintaro into this.

I also liked how D'Vorah's bugs healed her. I think I guessed that was gonna happen if Quan Chi wasn't going to help her out.

Although I would like another appearance for Sub-Zero, but I don't think they're going to have him come in any time soon.

this comic is all over the place
dvorah gets destroyed and comes back just like that?
oh piss off...cannot take it seriously

Not too farfetched, D'Vorah is more than just a body. She's a hive, so everything that lives inside her is also "D'Vorah"

Plus we've already seen early on that the bugs have healing capabilities when Sonya shot Kotal. If they can heal beings from other realms, I don't see how they can't repair their home.

i don't see how having a healing ability translates to having the ability in stapling your two halves together (and in the art it seemed like she came back from thin air, making it even more convoluted)
queue in yet another immortal character...in a story about mortals...how did that line go? "nobody really dies in mortal kombat"?
speaking of her, when on earth did she become the almost same height as god damn kintaro??? last time i checked the females were midgets in mortal kombat x

the comic is all over the place, it's like the author starts concentrating on one thing, and then throws you the off by completely changing the setting and the characters

She's basically a Hunter from Halo - just smaller.

We don't know D'Vorah's race. They could be a bunch of immortal hives. I think that's a freaking cool new race to introduce in this series. I see nothing wrong with it. Plus, as stated, since this series mocks death by never letting anyone officially die, what's the problem?

Chapter 32 spoilers ahead.

Spoiler:
Hanzo begins his battle with Scorpion, who calls Hanzo predictable and lacking in variation as he begins beating on him. As some demons rise up to hold Hanzo down, Scorpion claims that he will never be anything other than a depressed loner with a death wish without hellfire. Hanzo says how he doesn't want to turn the memories of his family into weapons, but Scorpion argues it was done to avenge their deaths. When Hanzo says they were avenged long ago, Scorpion replies that the entire world must burn for his family and clan. Hanzo asks Scorpion if he'll burn Takeda too, but Scorpion shouts that Takeda is already dead as he then thrusts a sword into Hanzo's chest!

On Shang Tsung's island, Havik burns Takeda with Shinnok's amulet, telling him to choose whether to become an agent of chaos or die. When Havik leans in to hear Takeda's answer, Takeda takes the opportunity to headbutt the cleric and shout that he chooses to fight. Havik then slams Takeda's head onto the floor, voicing his admiration for the young Shirai Ryu's sticking to his principles, and as he prepares to unleash the amulet's power once again, a bullet suddenly flies through his hand, knocking the amulet away! D'Vorah, Sheeva, and Kintaro have arrived... and thanks to Kotal Kahn's portal stone, they have reinforcements in the form of Erron Black (who obviously fired the bullet), Reptile, and Ferra/Torr! As Havik and his slaves prepare for battle, D'Vorah asks Erron if he's ready for his redemption and instructs him to keep Raiden occupied. As Erron opens fire on the thunder god, voicing his belief that this is more of a suicide squad than a rescue mission, the others begin their own fights; Reptile spits acid at Mileena, Sheeva takes on Johnny and Sonya, Kintaro faces Cassie and Jacqui, and D'Vorah and Ferra/Torr go up against Kotal Kahn as Ferra claims that the real Kotal would never hurt Torr. Havik sees Takeda fleeing with the amulet and gives chase, with Takeda soon falling due to his earlier injuries. Havik begins talking about how he knows everything Raiden told Takeda, like how the amulet contains the power of an Elder God, and as Takeda tries to use that power on Havik, the cleric is unimpressed; Raiden never taught Takeda how to use it after all, and Havik easily wrests it away with the promise that he will show Takeda how to wield it...

Back in Hanzo's own personal hell, Scorpion repeatedly stabs him, talking about how what they do changes the world. Hanzo admits that his darker half is right, that he's worn guilt like a noose around his neck long enough, and then teleports out of the demons' grip! From behind Scorpion, a fireball suddenly flies through his torso as Hanzo stands revealed in his own Scorpion costume. While Scorpion drops to his knees, Hanzo picks up the blade he wielded earlier and uses it to slice Scorpion's face off, proclaiming that there is no guilt or vengeance: only justice!

Back on the island, Havik engulfs Takeda in a blast of energy from the amulet, revealing that the only thing prolonging his death is the Jinsei energy that he was charged with earlier. Havik remarks on how this mimics Earthrealm's own long, slow death, and how Shinnok's defeat didn't bring peace, but only an opportunity for chaos... before Havik can finish, however, Hanzo Hasashi suddenly rips his head off from behind! As the cleric's severed head voices his surprise, Hanzo replies that Havik can't count on anyone except for him, before teleporting away with the head. As Takeda witnesses his master come and go, he calls for him to come back before slipping into unconsciousness.

I wonder if Kittelsen knew about
Spoiler:
the post-credits scene
in the game when he scripted that. A little less dramatic
Spoiler:
to have Havik's severed head remain alive
when we've seen something so similar with
Spoiler:
Shinnok.
