SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

On the one hand Kotal's father submitted, but on the other, he's a wise guy as he knew he's no match against Shao Kahn. He prefered to surrender but survive and it was a good choice. Nevertheless, his pride has been stained. I think Kotal appreciated this a bit later when he grew up. However, he seems stronger than his father and he doesn't want the history to repeat.

I think I know where Outworld Market takes place.

On the far background, look at a building.

Then look at the very first comic page with story on it.

I thought the same, it's definitely the place. It looks quite like some cities of Middle East or North Africa.

Another thought I had after today's comic: one new name in the legacy thing was an Earthrealm guy called Salazar who ended up in Outworld.

Salazar is a common name in Spain, and Kotal was notable for traveling between Earthrealm and Outworld... I wonder if this Salazar character was a Spanish conquistador from back then that somehow went through one of the stone's portals and found himself in Outworld. He could have found the means to prolong his natural lifespan in Outworld (Shang Tsung is also originally from Earthrealm).
It would be an interesting character idea, the Spanish soldier from the age of pike and shot that got trapped in a foreign realm and had to adapt and fight to survive. Possibly with a grudge on Kotal for killing his crew.

Next chapter is (finally!) Sub-Zero?

No, that's not until Chapter 9.

Salazar's described as sounding like he's American, though, and given that it's said he works for Kotal, I don't think he'd have any kind of grudge against him at all.

More than likely that Erron Black and Salazar are one and the same, with Salazar being a false name in the casting call. Way too many similarities between both characters.

Just to mention historical innacuracies.

The little girl is said to speak mayan.

It could not be mayan. The Mayans didn't have the habit of ripping off hearts.

Aztecs, who seem to be more influent on Kotal's design (I think Himmerick didn't notice at all) were the mesoamerican people who made sacrifices ripping hearts.

Things happened a little bit quickly too. Kotal arrived with the spaniards, wonder how long he was their leader, considering the "discovery" of America. We see that he arrives there as a young man, and comes back as an adult.

Considering him being an outworlder, the fact he arrived with spanish people and that native americans didn't have too much of their natural life after the invasion of America, Kotal is too much developed as an adult when he came back.

And another important thing: Amazon rainforest is in SOUTH AMERICA. Though it's not known for being habitated, spanish explorers did report that there were lots of people in a civilization there. They probably died of diseases (and let's not exclude GENOCIDE).

The incoherent part on the comic is the language. Mayans were not close from South America, no settlements.

That was a nice issue. I'm really liking Kotal so far.

Did anyone notice Reptile? In one of the last panels, the one that also shows Erron Black and D'Vorah, he's there in the background, wearing the same outfit as before, but he's definitely green. That must be he's primary costume, since it's been proven the one we've seen in the game until now is his alternate.

Yup, definitely it's the same. Notice the straps around his chest.

"I thought my father a coward that day"

I have read that sentence over and over and it still doesnt make sense to me. Shouldnt it be "I thought my father was a coward that day" or something like that?

If Kotal Kahn has been around so long then where he was in the original timeline? How come he didn't show up in the past? Characters like Cassie not existing in the original timeline is understandable since Sonya and Johnny Cage never got together in the original timeline.
Khan never dies in original timeline, even in 5 they said it was a clone due to his weaken state. Maybe seeing khan as the leader he was, kotal stood down or to himself. We may never truly know that's how reboots work, and rarely do they give more then oh he was doing A when B was going.....

Kotal is supossed to be based on an aztec/indian god, that´s the reason he talks that way.

So, i´m not the only who likes Him.

Yeah I pointed it out a few pages back. The weird thing is the mask. The character selection portrait makes it look like he isn't wearing one, but everyone pointed to the similarity with the off-color comic picture as proof that he's wearing a mask that we can't see because of the blur. Well now we've got another pic of him, and instead of providing answers, it only raises more questions.

Does he have a mask? It looks like there isn't one.

If there's no mask, why is his face a different shade of green?

Maybe the colors in the new pic are wrong (and he does have a mask); the colors on Erron Black's costume in the same pic are definitely wrong.

If there is a mask, do the colors tell us anything? The mask in the original pic is the same color as the (leather?) straps, but the mask doesn't appear to be leather at all. Furthermore, a beige mask, like the beige straps in the pic, would look weird.

I'm gonna have to go with "neither of the pics tell us anything" for now, and hope we get this cleared up soon.

Agree. The comics don't seem to be trying hard. Sometimes they pull off a good panel, but other times...
Reptile and D'Vorah from last chapter seem to have been drawn in a couple minutes while the artist was on the bus to work.
I wouldn't put a lot of weight on drawings that the artist clearly wasn't taking seriously, Reptile has a disaster instead of a face and D'Vorah is just the most basic lines, thank God she's yellow so we know who it is:

So Chapter 6 has a different Artist this time around. Explains the difference in art!

Artist: Geraldo Borges! Not bad, just different!
