Shin Megami Tensei

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

Fvck Naoki. He's one of the worst S.Links in P4. Takes up 3 days to to finally start his S.Link and he's so fvcking boring.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

Finally I finished P4. I was disappointed I was unable to max my social link though. By end of the game I using Trumpeter as the main persona and a party consisting of Chie, Yosuke, and Teddie. Yosuke was a solid character all around, who can fill every role when the specialists have have their hands full. I would have used Yukiko, but Teddie's buffs ultimately swayed my decision so my character can fill the role as the damage dealer. Chie was a disappointing for the most part, but came into her own with God Hand.

I'll try New Game + next time, now I'm going to start P3.

Use Kanji. God Hand is good but Kanji's Primal Force does better damage overall.

You're gonna love P3 more than P4. Trust me. If you enjoyed the story in P4, P3 will blow your fvcking mind.

I didn't level up the Trumpeter enough to learn Debililate. I mostly used it's inherent defense against elemental attacks, especially Mudo/Hama.

Use Kanji. God Hand is good but Kanji's Primal Force does better damage overall.

During my playthrough, Chie's level was slightly higher than Kanji and her maxed S-link got rid of her elemental weakness. I wasn't able to max out Kanji's S-link and Primal force required several more levels. That being said, Kanji seems to have better skills and stats than Chie while fulfilling the same roles. I also wanted to get the game over with, though I will change my priorities with New Game+.

There were some good moments, but the central plot of P4 was going nowhere. It wasn't until endgame where things start to fall into place.

Like I mentioned in the pros and cons list, P4's story felt like it wasn't going anywhere. You THINK you were going in the right direction and it turns out you were going the other way and weren't making any progress at all in fact. P3's story basically puts you right into the story from the get-go and keeps throwing shit your way.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

I put in a few hours in P3. I'll find my around eventually, but I got lost because the setting/world is so much bigger than than in P4. I'm not too thrilled about non-controllable party members, but I'll just leave it at that since I knew what I was getting myself into. The UI isn't very well designed, which was thankfully addressed in P4.

Meh, the whole non-control thing isn't too much of a bother. Your partners usually don't do anything retarded.

Here's what every member did in P3 that was dumb at one point or another.

Junpei: Using Force attacks even though they didn't work and he was already low on health. Stupei.
Yukari: WIND BREAKER. That shit takes up way too much SP and I had her set as healer. So not sure why she was doing that.
Akihibro: Spamming the shit out of Ziodyne and Maziodyne on enemies that repelled Electricity.
Titsuru: Missed literally on every physical attack she tried. She would constantly try it and fall over, get up and then try again, OR MARIN KARIN! Which misses 99.9% of the time as well. I'm not the only one with that problem too. So if you use her, watch out for it. It's bound to happen.
Aigis: I NEED YOUR HALP! I NEED YOUR HALP! I NEED YOUR HALP! Besides that, was pretty good over all really. She's a great buffer and physical attacker and did some major fvcking damage with her Origa mode. Though it's advised not to use Yukari and Aigis in the same party because they're both weak to electricity.
Ken: He sucks. As an over all character and as a fighter he sucks. Stay as far away from him as possible. Even Titsuru is better than him.
Koromaru: He's awesome, but uses light and dark which, I don't use at all. I literally never use them. So use at your own free will.
Shinjiro: Fvcking power house. That's all I'm going to say.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

When I encountered the 3 Venus Eagles, Yukari insists on shooting the one that is already down instead of trying to knock them all down in order to trigger an all-out attack. Basically, you have less in the way making tactical decisions and more or less be at the mercy of the AI.

Controlling your party is nice and makes you feel like you're actually in charge, but being at the mercy of the AI feels more realistic due to you not being able to control people in real life lol.

Every character you use in your party at one point will do something stupid like doing an elemental break when they don't need too, not going for an AoA, even to the point of skipping a turn.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

I remember that shit happened to me in P4.

All my allies kept guarding for some reason in this one fight, so I was forced to use Direct commands.

In a game where every turn counts, having party members botch things is really aggravating at times. I have similar problems with Fallout 2, particularly using burst fire weapons, which either is a waste of ammo in that situation or hit unintended targets (such as the player or fellow companions). I would choose controllable characters over "realism" in most cases.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

I just got to the point of having Mitsuru in the active party, so things have gotten better, in terms of fatigue and persona selection. Money seems harder to come by than Persona 4, though it's easier to acquire new weapons from chests or enemies. I don't have the same luck with armor and shoes though.

Are status effects worth using? Stat-reducing debuffs like Rakunda have saved my life against bosses, but have poison and such ever been useful?

@nemesis: BTW, how is Soul Hackers?

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

I had the exact opposite problem. Money was easy as hell to come by in P3 and in P4V it was hard as hell.

I never did status effects in either P3:FES, P4 or P4G. Disregard that Titsuru would do Mara Karin for no fvcking reason and miss every single damn time.

And Soul Hackers is kick ass. I'm loving it. Going to be playing it again here within the hour.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

P3P isn't even that great except for playing as Minako to do social links for the guys. Other that it's not even worth it. No animated cut scenes = lame.
