David Goyer Says MAN OF STEEL Sequel Could Be Titled SUPERMAN VS. BATMAN or BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Pre-production is underway on the sequel to Man of Steel, which was announced at Comic-Con on Saturday. The announcement referenced a classic line from Frank Miller’s comic book, The Dark Knight Returns: “I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.” The quote is from a moment where Batman has defeated Superman, and then we saw the logo for the new movie. Away from Hall H and buried in all the hoopla was writer David S. Goyer at the Superman 75th Anniversary Panel. He told the audience:

“we’re actually not sure whether the title is Superman vs. Batman or Batman vs. Superman but yes, it’s–that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.”

The title makes more sense than World’s Finest since people that don’t know comics won’t understand the title. It’s better to put “Superman” and “Batman” in there, and spare everyone the confusion.

Comicbook.com also noted that Warner Bros. owns the domains “SupermanVsBatman.com” and “BatmanVsSuperman.com”, so it looks like we’re stuck with the “versus” part. Also, as Batman-News.com pointed out to me, Warners has had these domains since 2001. At this point, it’s probably best for Justice League’s title to be “Superman & Batman & Wonder Woman & Flash & Green Lantern” (or whatever superheroes go into that movie). The untitled Superman/Batman movie is due out in 2015.

Batman VS Superman sounds like it could be pretty similar to this:

I thought that they would have been teaming up instead.

Heard about this while I was at work the other day, and they used a quote from The Dark Knight Returns where Batman says "I want you to remember the one man who beat you"

even though im not a big hardcore fan of this guy but what about leonardo dicaprio for batman? i liked him in gangs of new york and inception

Having them being enemies in the beginning and then teaming up towards the middle/end of the film is fine with me. I doubt they would make a movie where they are enemies the entire movie because casual fans aren't used to that kind of thing, therefore they're gonna be dumbfounded especially over the hero who is the antagonist in the movie.

"World's Finest" is the best title they can give this movie IMO, Batman v. Superman or vice versa sounds way too generic and kiddish to name such an epic movie, with the concept being used for the very first time on the big screen. Especially with the direction WB and DC are going with the heroes, Batman v Superman just reminds me of the Schumacher films and after The Dark Knight Trilogy, I really don't want them to go back to that family friendly theme.

And please continue to have Batman/Bruce being relatively young. I don't think the big screen is ready for a middle aged Batman yet unless they make the Batman Beyond movie. If Scott Adkins can pull off a convincing American accent I think he'd be perfect for the role, his face reminds me of the Bruce Wayne from the Animated Series.

I imagine it's gonna be vs at first, but then they team up later, and end up trusting one another.

I imagine with "VS" being in the title, that they are going to be at each other's necks for 99% or the movie, until something happens at the end.
I think that this movie would be a good set-up as to how Bruce and Clarke get to know each other, but I don't see them teaming up until the next movie, which will probably be Justice League.

Considering that they are also planning a Flash movie for 2016 and a JLA movie for 2017, this gives me more reason to believe that this movie will just be a set-up for The Justice League.

nothing was confirmed on that at sdcc. it was speculation from websites

dc's only news was batman vs superman

Regardless, if this Batman vs Superman movie doesn't end up being the JLA movie, then this movie could very well be a build up to the JLA movie.

I love Spartacus and I love Arrow, but Manu Bennet doesn't seem like the Bruce Wayne / Batman type.

I'd prefer Karl Urban.

Ok thanks for your opinion I guess. That doesn't make my assumption any more right or wrong.

I do believe I said they'd be versus eachother. I just think they will also work together by the end of the same movie.

I didn't say your assumption was wrong, by any means.
I just gave my 2 cents on it.
No need to be defensive.
