The horse's mouth says Kotal is not Shao's son. The horse's mouth also konfirmed Sonya and Johnny WILL be in MKX. Liu Kang, by virtue of being the champ and the logo, is guaranteed to be in. The only thing the German GamePro got wrong is Kotal being Shao's son.

It's also pretty funny how you guarantee that Liu Kang would be playable just because he's "the champ"

Scorpion and Raiden (two others who are as iconic as Liu Kang) skipped MK3...and they're practically mandatory.
And until proven otherwise, the kreator's tweets are gospel.

The thing is, Scorpion and Raiden are NOT Liu Kang.
Don't get me wrong, i really want Liu Kang in...He's just not confirmed yet. that's all....

This quote actually means that he does not want to confirm or deny whether Johnny Cage or Sonya Blade are playable in the game.
There was also that recent tweet where he said Sonya wouldn't be able to do fatalities on her daughter, which means Johnny is the bigger possibility to be in the LADDER, as we know there are no fatalities in Story Mode...
Anyway this will go back and forth until we get a gameplay video of said characters...

Who else can work for the PS3 & PS4 versions? Delsin Rowe could work to promote Infamous Second Son since guest fighters are usually added to promote other games. I can't think anyone well known enough to be on the Sony consoles versions that would fit. Sweet Tooth is a M rated character, so he would fit. Besides Ed Boon even admits that he likes the idea of Sweet Tooth in Mortal Kombat. Someone from Halo or KI would be the best choice for the Xbox consoles versions. I doubt we will get guest characters on both consoles. Either Sony gets someone or MS gets someone while we get another guest fighter as DLC.

I don't think that mean's Cyrax is out. He just made a joke on him running idea because the image has Cyrax has sitting on the bus with a group of people.

Well. We have sub zero and scorpion so we have to have either kitana and mileena or sektor and Cyrax and with ed boon talking about ketchup and mustard I'm leaning toward those two

It seems a lot of you people are in denial when it comes to characters like Johnny Lui kang and Sonya...boons has done everything but straight up tell"HEY EVERYONE THE ORIGINAL 7 WIll return for MKX" and until he does that you will all be skeptical......yeaa...

I had a thought, I figured I'd just post in here since it's kind of relevant to the topic rather than make a new thread...but when you think about the MK roster of the series as a whole, it started with much more martial arts inspired characters and a very asian (well, pseudo asian) Hong Kong cinema kind of vibe, even right down to the title screen music...as the series progressed, the style and vibe got more and more involved with a "dark fantasy" vibe and to a lesser extent scifi, so far with each of the new characters we've seen we can be sure to see much more of the dark fantasy side of MK, but is anybody else really hoping to see some brand new characters who feel a lot closer to the martial arts theme?

I really feel like they dropped the ball with Dairou. A traditional Chinese assassin with a very plain, but fitting look.
He could have been great if they gave him moves that fit his look. Sweet ass assassin gear like chained kata, blow darts and smoke bombs. But instead, they had fantasy in mind when they created him and because of it he shot flaming triangles out of his feet :?

Even if it's a joke, Cyrax is unlikely to be playable in the game, there are not much room for MK2-3 characters if 12 new characters are coming. A brand new cyborg character is much more likely in my opinion.

Dairou still is a pretty cool-looking character though and I love his move where he puts is back on the ground pretty fast and works as a popup. I still hope he will eventually show up in a future MK game, since I definitely see potential there.

From the last interview I seen (video is MIA at the moment), he said it would be Relatives and Cousin interacting with one another. So he could be talking about an aunt, cousin, or an illegitimate sibling (Kano rape's Sonya after Cassie's birth?). That would make MKX darker than any MK game ever made.
