It's a matter of trust, and I don't trust ANY of the silhouettes, at all.
Raiden's hat wasn't in with the rest of the silhouettes, so none of the silhouettes mean anything, as far as I'm concerned.
Also, with the way that they are revamping characters and since they look different in MKX (with exception to Raiden), I sure as hell wouldn't have guessed Sub-Zero, Scorpion or Kano's silhouettes prior to the characters being revealed.
MKX Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Kano look VASTLY different from their MK9 counterparts.

Because she has no personality, looks just like her daughter, does acrobatic attacks like her daughter and less to offer storywise than Johnny. At the end of MK9 Johnny discovered new powers within him (assuming his ending is canon) while Sonya on the other hand just got daddy issues.


I'm not saying she's a clone, I'm just saying that there are a ton more interesting and unique characters that can take a spot over her lame ass.

She has no personality because it was always the stale Jax / Sonya military duo story chasing the renegade Kano / Black Dragon which made it boring.
I'm not assuming that ANY of the MK9 arcade / ladder endings are true.
The story mode ending of the previous MK game is what has dictated the story for the next MK game, ever since Deadly Alliance.

Sure, and I myself would love to see someone like Fujin, but all the hints dropped by Ed Boon in various IGN and Gamecom interviews also point to both Sonya and Johnny being in, as well as the rest of Original 7 (Li Kang).
It seems that NRS is using MKX to also revamp the originals, in a way that they haven't been able to do before.

If you don't get that reference, the guy who voiced Johnny Cage in MK9 was the bass player (Jeff Pilson) in the 80s metal band Dokken.
Dokken did a music video for their song "Dream Warriors" where they defeat Freddy Krueger with their music, which was on the soundtrack for for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3.

Reptile is still likely to comeback in my opinion, one of the most famous Trilogy characters and I'm sure they would love to showcase three variations of him. He is also not dead so it wouldn't even be a surprise to include him and to see where his plot goes without the dragon egg thing.
 
Reptile has been in nearly MK game expect for the normal edition of MK3, MKD and MKVSDCU (Which still surprises me he wasn't). I would imagine he will likely come back. He's too popular to turn down in my opinion.
