Roster Speculation

^^^I still think that Sonya, Johnny and Liu Kang will be playable, or at the VERY least DLC.

I don't see MKX not having Sonya or Johnny being playable at all especially since those 2 are likely pivotal to the story of Cassie and her upbringing, also given that Cassie has 2 variations named as a nod them, and Patrick also said that Cassie has "inspired" moves that aren't clone moves.

And Boon said that this way of thinking like "Cassie has similar moves, so it means we won't have Sonya/Johnny", it's wrong.

You know what's funny, we've been speculating a lot, and all of speculations are very connected to our classic base.

We will have LOTS of new characters, I predict we shall see something VERY DIFFERENT from what we are thinking, at the least on the main story.

That's my biggest hint, along with Ed also saying that Cassie would be able to do fatalities on relatives.
I don't see Cassie doing fatalities on Johnny or Sonya, unless she was kidnapped by Kano and brainwashed, which is a possibility, I guess.

I've been saying it for a while.


My speculation is:

- Sub-Zero and Scorpion team up to go after Quan Chi, then go their own ways after that.

- Raiden is pivotal in the story OR as the storyteller himself.
Someone said (don't know if it was here or elsewhere) that MKX Kano references Raiden's "crystal ball" in his intro (probably referring to his visions).

- Johnny and Sonya got together and created Cassie, so aside from being the surviving heroes of MK9, they probably had some role in raising Cassie.
Even if Sonya and Johnny die near the beginning, they probably raised her for a while, which has the possibility of going into the 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 year mark of MK X, since Boon also mentioned children interacting with their older relatives.

- Kano is likely tied to Kotal now that Kotal will be Emperor for a while, and D'Vorah will likely be Kotal's 2nd in command (like Shang Tsung was to Shao Kahn).
Kano could also be tied to the Cage family, somehow.

- Liu Kang is the only 1 out of the Original 7 whose role in MKX I'm really having a hard time speculating.
His story could go into various paths.
Maybe he's dead.
Maybe he sits out this game.
Maybe he's alive.
Maybe he becomes the next boss.
Maybe he becomes evil but not a boss.
Maybe he forgives Raiden and joins the forces of light.
Maybe he goes rogue and goes on his own way of doing things.

Totally agreed!!

About Liu Kang, he has become an arrogant since MKII events.

You know, his Shaolin Brothers killed, his home devastated, friends kidnapped.

After that he became a maniac killer like any other. And in MK9 we can see very close of his personality, he is like Superman, very powerful, but arrogant because of that, there is a tiny line for hhim to go rogue.

If he comes back, I think he will come back pissed off. I mean, he just doesn't care if Raiden saved the day (he didn't), but everybody think he did! Liu Kang may just want to show that he is better for Earthrealm, he is like Corrupted Raiden.
 
That has to be a mistranslation.
Boon wouldn't confirm 3 characters for a magazine article in addition to revealing Kano.


When has Ed ever said "yes" to a character related question in an interview?

Boon didn't initially reveal that they were playable, though.
The magazine themselves (German GamePro) said that Sonya, Johnny and Liu Kang were playable.

Still, If that's the case then we still can't truly say they're in the game.

I don't think he'll give us 4 interviews with basically the same answers to different question, and then just go all out and confirm 3 characters in ONE interview.
 
I think it will be a waste of 2 slots to bring back sonya and johny, cassie its a mix of both and im not beign biased I was a great sonya player but I just want a breath of fresh air.the new characters they"ve shown so far are preety good if thats the direction theyre going I just wanna see whatelse they have in store for us. ps: I really liked what theyve done with sub-zero this time around, his moves and looks are on point.
 
I'd definitely be salty if Johnny and Sonya made it, but more interesting characters like Sektor and Baraka got left out.

Sonya and Johnny earned MKX roster spots fair and square. They are fully entitled to them.

And besides, they have already been konfirmed for MKX...TWICE.

And by the way, get your damn facts straight before you post bullshit such as "cassie is a copy of her parents, blahblahblah". How many moves has Cassie directly copied from her parents again? I though so. So like I said, get your facts straight.

I think that ppl are pretty much saying Johnny and Sonya aren't going to be in until they see them...boon has done everything but actually confirm that they will be in .hes dropped way to many hints
 
My personal preference, I don't think its necessary for BOTH Johnny and Sonya to be in the game as playable. I would have prefer to have JC as playable and Cassie in for Sonya. But Sonya should be in the story mode for sure.
 
The way I feel, Johnny is unique enough that he deserves a spot.
Sonya is completely useless on the otherhand and I really hope she only appears in story mode
 
Well, I'm not going to consider it confirmed until I actually see them.. but with the hints, it seems likely.. but you don't know for sure until you know for sure.
