Roster Speculation

(15 technically since Kitana was an MK1 concept character that didn't make the cut for MK1, called "Kitsune").

Whoa! I mentioned Kitana's roster cut history (either In this thread or another one) yet forgot about her original MK1 concept!

If you want to get even more technical, the new character count should be 14 for MKII. Jax was originally created for MK1, under the name of "Kurtis Stryker" (which would be reused for a new character in MK3). However, he was cut from the roster due to demand for a female character (perhaps stemming from the Chun Li Effect), so Sonya was created and given Jax's storyline.

I say that because I think a majority of people don't care for frost that much because they see her as nothing more than a sub-zero wannabe with tits.

Well... Smoke was a Scorpion clone. Kenshi was an Ermac Clone. Reptile was a Scorpion/Sub-Zero/etc clone. etc. Frost was never exactly a Sub-Zero clone. But even if she was, she could be remade.

I wish I knew how to thank people on this site.

Most people seem to forget that a few MK characters were literally clones of one an other in their first appearance without any personality and with almost no unique moves. I mean for crying out loud, these are the guys that made one of the most unique characters out of a guy named as a tribute after the two Co Creators, anybody that can make thousands of fan take the name "Noob Saibot" semi seriously can do a lot of things. Also the fact that most of the 3D characters are bland is a blessing almost as much as it is a curse+, because they could add as many elements to them as possible without breaking the actual canon.

For example they could say that Dairou wasn't just a grunt in the Seidan guard but was a major officer, and because of that he had learned some mystic magical art allowing him to change the laws of physics to his advantage (most logical power choice since Seidans are the people of order, and laws of physics are the most rigid laws ever) and the reason he didn't use this power in Deception is because the power is only linked to mysterious crystals (in fact tiny fragments of the One Being that were spread all through out the realms after it's defeat by the Elder Gods), and now you have an interesting character, a cynical and jaded former officer living on the run from his own people blessed with great power.

And I came up with that idea in about 3 days with no previous writing experience. Now that doesn't mean that all MK characters are worthy to return, the ones with less potential should just be swept up under the rug if more interesting character concepts come to the drawing board. But I think that not giving some of them a second chance could be just a waste.

I enjoyed a lot playing with Frost but in MKX she has a little chance to be included BUT we don´t know nothing about the DLC planning this time, I think many characters could have a way there.

Usually, NRS's roster strategy is about offering characters that are highly demanded as DLC and leaving the least popular ones on the disc (Ares and Killer Frost are on disc while Lobo, MM and Zaterra are DLC). I think a good chunk of the DLC characters are gonna be from MK9 since there's a high demand for them, about 50% of the total number of DLC characters, also Tremor will be DLC if he's not on disc already, and it's a safe bet to expect a guest character to the DLC list also. If we're really lucky we'll get 8 characters out of DLC with MKX, which means we'll get 2-3 other characters as DLC.

How was Kenshi ever an Ermac clone? He only had 1 single move from Ermac (out of several unique to him), and Ermac actually took 1 special from Kenshi in Deception and the gameplay was very different between both characters. Seriously... no, just no...

The two have telekinetic abilities. Kenshi was planned to be Ermac's student. The links are obvious.

But telekinesis have a great variety of possible moves and NRS differentiate the two characters enough. I never see Kenshi as a Ermac clone. Copypastes in MK exist, but not in this case.

The only move Kenshi had from Ermac was the slam. He also had a teleport (very different from Ermac's), tele-furry, tele-push and also a telekinetic move that would throw the opponent to the opposite side of the field (which Ermac actually took from Kenshi in Deception). This is far from being a clone from any prespective possible. The one who wrote it clearly wanted to nitpick something so his argument for Frost inclusion would be more valid. It failed IMO.

We're agreed. Jarek a clone of Kano or Kira a clone of Kano/Sonya were best examples.
