Raiden getting revealed at EVO

"A former member of the White Lotus Society, Kai learned his skills from the great masters throughout Asia. He journeyed to the far east after meeting his friend and ally Liu Kang in America. Now they reunite and assist Raiden in his battle against Shinnok."

- MK4

Boon referred to him as "African American". That quote means nothing.

If they changed his origins in Armageddon, that's another thing.

MK4 Kai looks part Black and part Asian.
While MK: Armageddon Kai looks Black.

Much like Jade, they changed Kai's race over 2 games, but MK4 Kai was originally part Black and part Asian looking.

Kai is not white and is not black, is "copper". This word at present is acepted in many countries, at the past was a vulgarism and was used to describe the color of skin community all regions beyond, black, matte, copper, citrine, etc, etc..,. So kai seem that is from nepal..............

And is Sub-Zero white or asian? He was full asian in his MK2 ending, but he looked white in MK3.

Who knows?
NRS changes the races of characters so often, it's hilarious.

According to MK9, though, Sub-Zero was Asian (Bi-Han & Kuai-Liang are very Asian sounding) as is Hanzo Hasashi (Scorpion).

On-topic: I think that Raiden is too obvious but maybe they don't care if it is! Fujin surely is, in my opinion, one of the most recognizable characters from MK4. As for MK4 being remembered or not, listen: I agree that a lot of people don't remember it and its characters, but I'm under the impression that they wouldn't really mind that detail. It's only a reveal, after all.

Off-topic, following the last few posts: I absolutely adore Mortal Kombat but I've always been disappointed by the lack of detail when it comes to characters' nationalities. Back in the "original 3" days it was a matter of limitations, as Sn202 mentioned (for instance: Shang Tsung was rightfully asian in MK II, but then turned into an american in the next game... it looked terrible, but that was because of the issues involving the MK II actor, if I'm not mistaken), but what's the problem nowadays? Shouldn't they look like someone who actually came from Asia/America/Europe/whatever? Then again, I always thought that most productions from North America (movies, games, etc) never paid much attention to this. It's like: 'oh, his/her eyes are a bit Asian - that'll do' (not counting the differences between Asian countries and their people).

Its gonna be Rai-doggy-dog woohoo! fujin in a asphalt wearer with pink clown shoes for testicles. if raiden doesnt shimmy from the latter days then MKx will be boggle snoggle. can u dig it????

I FULLY expect Raiden.

However, after just watching Kratos ending in MK9 again I am REALLY hoping for Fujin. Although it wasn't much different of a look from Armageddon, it was different enough to have me hoping for him.

Also, if you go by races (which is a term that makes no sense whatsoever, but I'll follow that logic) ANY so-called "white" you talk about is of European-ancestry. Nightwolf is the only character in MK that call be called trully American.

But really, I actually happen to like Kai's appearance and his primary outfit in MK4 was super awesome. It was simple, yet it looked good on him. His primary Armageddon look was pretty awful and I hated the haircut. My problem with Kai is that I didn't feel his gameplay was that much unique and original. However, I can see him turning into someone really awesome in X, so, yes for Kai.

I would be hyped if it is either Kai or Fujin. Both are the one of the better post MK 3 characters, especially Kai being one of the most unique character in the MKverse.

Kuai Liang and Bi-Han are Yankees. They, along with an unnamed sister, were born in the United States to a 4th generation Lin Kuei and an American woman. So by birth, they are American.

Confirmed roughly 17 years ago on the now-defunct official MK Mythologies website.
