People's extreme love and passion towards characters

im personally not buying this game unless they announce that
Sonya - Cassie - johnny- jax- Jaquie - liu kang - kung jin -
ferra torr - dvorah - tanya - kotal kahn - takashi and kenshi have been removed and replaced with actual good interesting characters such as cyber ninjas, new female ninjas, cyber female ninjas, new unique race characters like tarkatans, just anything that isnt boring and uninspired

Good, well I guess that means you won't be buying it. Remember, just because you find a character bland/boring/uninspired, that doesn't mean that they actually are. This game wasn't made to please you & only you, so stop acting as if it should be. The false sense of entitlement is incredibly obvious.

Put it this way, what attracted to you to MK for the first time? Was it the gameplay, or was it a mere picture of a character you had no idea about? I'd imagine it be the former.

It's different for everyone. The first game I ever played was MKII and I used Kitana so I associate her with my love for fighting games (specifically this one). All the characters I choose as my main character somewhat mirror her. Soulcalibur - Sophitia (one of the original females, important in story, feminine), Tekken - Lili (princess-type character, feminine), Dead or Alive - Helena Douglas (heiress, important in story, feminine), Injustice - Wonder Woman (princess, powerful, important, feminine).

So just to clarify, your love for fighting games depend on characters that match Kitana's archetype and personality?

If Scorpion and Sub Zero weren't in this game I'd be pissed, it's like SF without Ryu and Ken even though they are the same character move wise. I also like Mr. Lao and he's here so I'm 6 now but I know how people feel who didn't get their faves in. I'd still buy the game without them. We just have to come to terms that people handle disappointment, anger and life differently than others do.

Who's the rock n roll character from Darkstalkers? Is it Lord Raptor or something? I think we need a little more of that in fighting games.

In a way, yes. I think it's because how important I think having a strong and feminine character in a fighting game is to me.

Girly girls kick ass too ;)

Taj Gill thanks for letting me express myself without getting ticked off like a lot of people on here do. You're truly one of the members on here that I have high respects for.

I can agree with this reasoning. Regardless though, you must love fighting games in general first? Or do you approach every hobbie or interest with the same mindset, in regards to having a strong, feminine element?

And thank you for your kind words Goddess, the feeling has been mutual ever since you joined this site! :).

Personally... If I say I love a character, it's because I like the character in design, gameplay, looks and story... not because I actually have intimate feelings for the character. I might admire the character and drool a bit over them (if they are male and hot, of course), but I am fully aware that it is a fictional character made of pixels or polygons in a digital world, and indeed NOT real. I merely enjoy and appreciate them as characters. I would never think that I would ever have a special connection to these characters or make delusions about me being specifically entitled to anything that has to do with the character.

I like to consider myself a fan, and not a fanboy which is someone who actually feels like they have certain entitlements and feel like they have a special connection to these characters. I find such people rather creepy, to be honest.

HOWEVER! I can understand if someone enjoys playing a character in a franchise and becomes a fan of that character, so if said character would be deluded from a future installment, they would choose not to get that game. Some people just enjoy playing a game with certain characters, so if you take away those characters, they won't get the game. That is their choice and I fully respect that. It just means they are fans of those characters and indeed NOT fans of the franchise as a whole.

For example, if someone only likes Ermac and won't play any MK game which doesn't have Ermac in it, then that someone is an Ermac fan, not a Mortal Kombat fan. That's how I see it anyways. And I think that's totally fine.

I consider myself as an MK fan, though I do indeed have my favourite characters. However, because those characters I am fan of aren't "regulars" in the franchise, I tend to get new faves which will be added to my list of favourites. For example, my top fave character is Jade. But Jade wasn't in MK4, so I found new faves in Reiko and Tanya. Neither of them were in MKDA, so I found yet a new fave in Nitara.

I was so sure that none of my favourites would be in MKX, so I was already ready to find a new fave and I do think I've found one in Takeda, but was then positively surprised to see Tanya be DLC. And because I had already come to terms that none of my faves wouldn't be in the game, a wave of joy and excitement washed over me as I saw her walk forward in the Kombat Pack trailer! But even if she wasn't in the game, I would still get MKX and I would still enjoy it.

People are different though and they prioritize things differently from eachother. Some prioritize graphics, others the gameplay, and there's also those who prioritize the roster and its characters. So if they want to miss out on a game because of the lack of a character, then that is their choice.

yeah hes awesome!...and actually a character with a huge mouth in their stomach would be great in mk. at this point id take anything over another boring generic humam good guy soldier type character.

Not going to lie, if Scorpion wasn't in and a few other characters, I really probably would have not bought the game right away. I would have waited for a deep Steam Summer Sale.

But let's not pretend that despite lack of certain characters, this iteration of Mortal Kombat is THE MOST compelling, the most nuanced, the most detailed... hell, it is currently THE BEST Mortal Kombat ever made as far as presentation goes. So for those with a big heart towards characters like Rain, Tanya, Reiko, and Fujin... it can be understood why they want them in so desperately bad. I meant, MK9 was good but MKX is just... it's on a whole 'nother level. And I think a lot of people did actually expect some of post MK3 characters to show up. I mean, if they had actually allowed the characters that died, stay dead... then there would have been no choice for NRS but to make Fujin, Tanya, Reiko, Rain, and some others. So it would certainly make sense as to why people are going all HAM for certain characters. Who the hell wants to wait another 3 or 4 years to get another slight chance that their favorite would be in the game?

Oh yes, I absolutely love fighting games. Well, if I can, I'll add my personal flare (which is rather feminine) to a hobby or an interest. That's just how I am, though. I also only played as the females in MK9 for a really long time. The only male I recently started to play as was Quan Chi.

Okay so we got the liking the fans over the game reasoning out of the way. Thank you for your replies, I appreciate it sincerely. theincubuslord, I tried thanking your post, it didn't work. I must've ran out again.

So I guess what I'm still confused about is the sense of entitlement some fans have. Putting aside the general idea that it's okay to like a character over the game as a whole, how does the non inclusion of a character affect your life to the point where you need to attack NRS, or make petitions? Better yet, how does someone not liking your favourite character affect your life to the point where you're offended? Let's be real, there have been some heated arguments over people not liking a member's favourite character on this site.

I don't understand this either. I have time and time again experienced that if I critisize or say something bad about a character... let's say Scorpion, because that's actually happened... then fans of Scorpion has tried to make a comeback at me by saying "Yeah, but JADE sucks!" or something like that, as if that would hurt me that they think such about Jade. I can't help but laugh at those people.

When someone doesn't like something I like, I might ask why to try and understand their point of view, but I'm not going to think lesser of that person for not liking what I like. And I am certainly not going to insult or attack them! I would be an entirely other situation if that person was talking shit about an IRL friend of mine, then I'd react differently. Not with physical violence though, I'm somewhat of a pacifist when it comes to that.

But to feel so passionately about a fictional character, that it hurts them when someone says something bad about the character? I don't get that...

sorry for wanting awesome characters in a fighting game. cmon just admit it the majority of the roster have a really boring bland look and pLaystyle. dont be iN denial just because yoU want them all to be AwesoMe nO matter what when the truth is mOst of them are clearly heading iNto the same boat as mOst post mK 1/2/3 characters. its just history repeating.

the new characters shown so far have forgettable designs and equally boring gameplay styles Or coPy soMeone elses style like takashi just beiNg an enhanced versiOn of scorpiOn. the new introduced characters to MK will always be lame until NRS hire john tobias again or someone with that same level of great design capability

Again, I find people of the latter part of your post to be stupid as well. I'm a diehard Arsenal FC fan, but I won't get mad if one of my friends supports another team. I guess this extends into any sort of extreme die hard fandom.

Arsenal fan!! i guess there is no worries about you getting disappointed by the roster since you got used to dissapointments :p :p

No, I don't have to admit anything. You think that they are boring and bland, I (and the majority of MK fans) don't. Having a different opinion does not mean that I am in 'denial'. You really need to stop stating your opinions as if they're facts & then attacking people simply because they don't agree with you. We don't need another Sonya Bland.

I wouldn't consider people here "nerds" I am here because I want updates and news on a game that I enjoy. It's no differnt then someone checking the score of a hockey game. (I also do that) Not only that, I can come here and discuss about something I enjoy, we are humans after all and humans need interaction with other humans.

As far as why people get angry and what not, I guess people just are attached to a certain character and don't like change in certain stuff. I can say id be upset if my favorite hockey team traded my favorite player, id be mad/upset. (Plus I'd be out 200$ for having his jersey :p) But truthfully I wouldn't care if my favorite character was not in the game. I say people overreact
