Ono San of Capcom jealous of MK's story mode

The story mode in the new game is cheesy as hell. The dialogue is even worse than MK: Annihilation. The complexities of the stories are decent to remember, but Street Fighter doesn't need a story mode. No one has ever played or bought a Street Fighter game for story.

Mortal Kombat is different, because (until MK vs DCU and this new game) it has always had a really cool/complex story, and decent (depending on the games and opinions) game play.

well hopefully capcom does indeed take a lesson from MK, their stories are non existant and I'd love to see story modes in some future games they release

Seriously! The story mode in this game was amazing! So intense and full of "OH SH@T!" moments. I am really looking forward to the next game's story mode. The only thing i wasn't a fan of was that they made a lot of characters seem completely incompetent at fighting. You end up laughing when you get pitted against reptile for the third time. You can just imagine reptile saying to shang tsung "Please master no! Don't volunteer me to fight them. These scary humans always hurt reptile!" The same thing applies to baraka, sheeva (My best character), Goro (He is supposed to be terrifying!) etc. I would really like to see these characters get some well deserved spot light in the next game after the thrashing they took in this one. Other than that i am completely satisfied with the story in this game!

The issue with SF is simple the Cannon story is all over the place or flat out to vague. SF is all about its presentation and system than it's story. The most of a story we ever got was the Alpha Series endings.

Although some of SF is interesting like SFII: Animated and SFA: Generations, it's not the focus of the games themselves and I'm fine with that.

It's based on old ****ing kung fu movies. It's supposed to be cheesy. And what do you mean until mkvdc? It's always been convoluted. Even still, it's ages ahead of any other fighter's story.

No one played MK1-UMK3 because of the story and most people don't play the new game because of it, either. MK did great until they focused on the story, so it didn't need it anymore than SF and actually suffered because they tried to make it important because the gameplay sucked and the story wasn't good even then.

If Mortal Kombat didn't have the story it does now, I'd probably have little interest in it and play it casually.

I love MK for its story.
I loved Deception, I loved Deadly Alliance, Armageddon sucked :)
The gameplay was horrible, but just the satisfaction of getting all of the lore in the game was reason enough for me to keep on trucking.

I wasn't drawn to MK because of violence, and I'm not the minority in that decision, I'm the only one lol.
I was drawn because of its interesting characters.
You could have put SF 3 and MK 3 in front me as a kid and I'd go right for the game with the robots and Centaurs.

I'm pretty damn sure quotes from the Story Mode of MK9 like "We share blood. We are not brothers." And "She's going awaaay..." are light years ahead of lines from Annihilation "Too bad... YOU! Will die!". Besides, the Story Mode was obviously meant to be cheesy and tounge-in-cheek, like the rest of MK. To throw that comparison around as loosely as you did shows a lot of ignorance on your part, to be very honest with you. Annihilation is regarded as one of the worst films of all-time, and MK fans don't exactly put it on a pedestal, either. You really shouldn't compare the Story Mode of MK9 to that abombination at all unless you have a helluva good reason to.

I find it funny that people say the story was lame or cheesy. What did you expect from a fighting game an oscar worthy movie? Story mode was good, it added extra life to the game. Something Street Fighter could use but doesn't need because fans who find stories in fighting games cheesy keep playing the same mode over and over and over again.

Story is not needed in a figting game ... but is it pointless? The story always played an important role in MKs. It just adds to games's feeling and atmosphere.
And new MK is great in story mode, nice gift for fans.

Mk has the greatest characters of all time. no scrawny spikey haired douchebags, or horny 12 year old girls like all the other fighting games out there. Just straight up bizzare and memorable characters.

I'm not reffering to street fighter by the way, they actually do have a few good characters

lol I love how Ibukis and Sakuras stories in street fighter are basically "I need to get laid".

Also Im pretty sure its been noted before that Ed Boon and Ono San are good friends and keep in touch a lot. While there is a "rivalry" its simply a friendly one and there isnt bad blood between the companies

Same, I wasn't playing MK for the Violence, I was playing because there WERE NINJAS! Of course, I was five the first time I played Mortal Kombat on the SNES.

At least Ono admits it... I have to say I find the story mode of the new MK very engaging and it actually occured to me that the new SF games could use that approach, not that they really need it, they're awesome (as the new KM is without the story mode) as it is but it would be a good addition.
