Official Fan Fiction Discussion Thread

quick note to everybody i'm back in the fanfic game expect so an update from mk vs sf (still working out APS's storyboard) soon though i did post a teaser a few days prior
 
Think im gonna post a thread for the DOA fanfic soon, but I dunno what to name it. DOA: Reborn? That was my first name but it seems wierd.
 
So, to get back in the fanfic groove, I said before that I was considering doing a Li Mei fanfic

Well, I'm still considering it and I have a few ideas I wanna share:

- I'm thinking about making Li Mei's father a focal point of the story. Basically, her father would be of the good alignment and be alive during the course of the story, but he works for Shao Kahn as a weapons forger in Hell's Foundry to either a.) provide for his family or b.) Shao Kahn would kill his family if he didn't. Not completely sure on which one, but I'd be glad to take any suggestions

- In Li Mei's case, there are two ways that I'm considering portraying her:

- Strong-willed and compassionate yet slightly naive and idealistic. Sees the struggle around her but doesn't let it affect her. She strongly desires to change Outworld for the better and rid her village of the oppression of Shao Kahn's rule.

- Compassionate and strong-willed as a force for good yet somewhat content with her current situation and jaded as a result of the environment she sees around her. Just tries to do what she can to survive and get by. Tends to not want to get her hopes up by thinking of the possibility of a world without Shao Kahn



- Since I find the idea of a resistance force of Outworld and Li Mei and her father being one of very few good people of Outworld to be very interesting, I really want to include references to some sort of ongoing war in the story between the remaining Edenian Resistance members and the empire of Outworld, but I'm not sure how that would fit into the story and whether I should just make a seperate fanfic for that

- I also want to make Shang Tsung a recurring villain in the story; I have somewhat of a goal to make him seem more brutal and heartless than he does in the games as while I enjoy Shang Tsung, his portrayal in the games makes him seem more of a cartoonish type of villain than I would have liked

- As there are some things I'm planning to do with the story that wouldn't make sense in the current timeline, I'm thinking about making this story set in an alternate universe

So, since writing this fanfic is going to be anything but easy, anyone seriously got any comments, concerns, criticisms, suggestions, etc over all this? Like real talk, I could really use the help as this is only my second fanfic that we're talking about here (my first one wasn't exactly a cakewalk either)
 
A MK fan-fic?

Ehhh, I don't think I'd be able to help with that. Only serious MK fan-fic I wrote was my Stryker one and it wasn't all spell-bending and story heavy so it was a cakewalk for me.

Something will come this weekend from me. That's a promise.

Either my DBZ fan-fic will be updated or my RE fan-fic.

I'm here for you Metal, what you have here is some very good shit.

1) About her father, Just providing for his family cause the Empire is already strong enough as it is. You should include other weapon forgers who ideally stand by and such.

2) The second choice for Li Mei cause the first choice sounds real Mileenaish

3) I like the war idea cause it'll lead an opening for the resistance to strike. Personally I don't know if Edenian resistance would work but if you created a war between existing worlds than maybe that'll fulfill your needs but aye, fanfiction right lol

4) Maybe Shang Tsung can go in as disguise and join the resistance to tear them up within?

So basically more weapon forgers of the good alignment? Yeah, sounds like a great idea, but I think I need to include evil ones too just to balance things out. Feel me?

Mileenaish? How so lol? I mean, I think I get how you got to that conclusion with Mileena being naive and such

Well, the resistance would be a combination of the remaining surviving Edenian warriors and various Outworld rebels, probably should have said that in the first place though hehe

How did I never think of this? This idea is godlike, I'm definitely using this in the story if you don't mind

Now for 2 of my other problems: for one, should I set this before the start of the 10th MK tournament in Earthrealm (basically right before MK1) or before the start of the first MK tournament in Earthrealm (when the Great Kung Lao fought Goro)? Personally, I like the latter more but that leads into my next question...

I know that I'll make Li Mei in her 20s in human years, but how old should I make Li Mei in Outworld years? Outworld inhabitants age slower than humans (see Bo Rai Cho, who looks like he's only in his 50s despite possibly being over 100 years old in human years)

1) Yeah definitely: loyal forgers vs the resistance

2) Yeah Mileena's character is the naive "Oh fighting is fun!" Type of character. Li Mei's character should be someone on Balatika's (spelled it wrong) character. You know with the toned down creepiness.

3) Ooh that makes sense. Edenian survivors being slaves and such and the Outworld rebels free them.

4) Thank you I try my best with the Shang Tsung ideas :)

Oh that's tough, well before I answer: Are you looking to go outside the box or walk the same line as others?

Maybe she can be 70 in Outworld years?
