But who knows, Mk10 could probably be Mk:Fire and Ice.
I'm aware of only one character who has been permanently killed off, and that is Hsu Hao.
You all seem to be overlooking one VERY important fact; Nobody ever really dies in Mortal Kombat. That is a direct quote from John Vogel, by the way...
and I'm glad they did
after MK4 the story kinda goes downhill which is why i say NRS Should lump together MK4, MK5 and MKD With a twist of course or a slight nodge like in MK9
How recent is that statement, though?
Being that this is a NEW direction that NRS is going in (MK 2011), you have to wonder if NRS is staying true to that, or changing that old way of thinking, so that it doesn't become Armageddon all over again.
Personally, I would HATE not to see those beloved characters coming back for MK 10 (*sobs for Noob Saibot*), but it would be a change that would NEED to take place, to keep NRS from repeating past mistakes.
If NRS DID decide that those characters would be dead (for story purposes), I'd hope that they'd at least be available as DLC.![]()
I actaully want this to happen. It be much better. I couldn't picture Shinnok being a big boss.
You have to remeber in one of the interviews, boon said we haven't seen the last of our favorite characters.
And I want my favorite characters(Kung Lao, Sub-Zero, and espically Liu Kang) to be apart of the story:/.
If the MK9 Story Mode kill-offs are made permanent, then that obviously means several major characters would be discontinued, and frankly, that is NOT good from a business standpoint. I'm not an advocate of the "star system", but one thing I have always noticed is that people will only pay money for a form of entertainment if it includes its biggest stars. Do you really think the majority of the MK fanbase will shell out $60 for a game that's almost devoid of the big-name stars of the franchise? I don't think so.
I must also point out that several endings from the Ladder mode contradict Story Mode, so that might be something else to pay attention to. I've seen weirder things happen, such as being led to believe that all but 4 of MKDA's endings being canon, only to see a completely different MKDA outcome out of left field once MKD came out.
Why are people talking about MK4 and Deadly Alliance? We have a new timeline, folks! That means the future is uncertain, so it's fully possible that whatever happened in the first timeline might not happen at all in this one. We might never get to see Onaga again, for example.

For all we know, it could also be a continuation of the post-MK 3 plot, with a "twist" (like they did for MK 9).
According to the ending of MK9 "Story Mode", it seems to be going that way (about 85 to 90% chance).
All we can really guess from MK9's Story Mode ending is that MK10 might be a retelling of MK4.
