NRS's Next move

But who knows, Mk10 could probably be Mk:Fire and Ice.

That's what I'm hoping for.

Ever since I finished Shaolin Monks with both Liu Kang and Kung Lao (unlocking Sub-Zero and Scorpion), I was like, "A Shaolin Monks style game, with these 2, would be full of so much WIN!!!"

I see that most people here are concluding that certain characters will be absent from MK10 based on the fact that they died in MK9's Story Mode.

You all seem to be overlooking one VERY important fact; Nobody ever really dies in Mortal Kombat. That is a direct quote from John Vogel, by the way...and last time I checked, it is Vogel who writes the MK story (a role he took over following the departure of John Tobias), so if you think that the likes of Sindel, Shang Tsung, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Jax, Kitana, Jade, etc, are out of the question for MK10, you are sadly mistaken! Hell, Scorpion, arguably the foremost face of the MK franchise since its inception, has been dead since 2 years before the events of the first game, so what does that tell you about the finality of death in the Mortal Kombat franchise?

I'm aware of only one character who has been permanently killed off, and that is Hsu Hao.

How recent is that statement, though?
Being that this is a NEW direction that NRS is going in (MK 2011), you have to wonder if NRS is staying true to that, or changing that old way of thinking, so that it doesn't become Armageddon all over again.

Personally, I would HATE not to see those beloved characters coming back for MK 10 (*sobs for Noob Saibot*), but it would be a change that would NEED to take place, to keep NRS from repeating past mistakes.

If NRS DID decide that those characters would be dead (for story purposes), I'd hope that they'd at least be available as DLC. ;)

and I'm glad they did

Not even the development team liked him, which tells you his chances of ever coming back (as a matter of fact, NRS came out and stated that Hsu Hao was permanently discontinued during MK9's development). I believe Chameleon was also discontinued, but I don't think he was even a canon character to begin with.

Heres a theory. tell me what everyone thinks.

Raiden and cage/sonya attempt to save the souls capture by quan chi. With that another war can be made. Earthrealm and Outworld.

1. Keep supporting MK9 with DLC
2. Work on MK10

Personally, I think NRS should focus on making MK strictly a fighting game franchise. Whatever plans they may have for Fire & Ice or Shaolin Monks 2 should be turned into separate games to expand their properties.

after MK4 the story kinda goes downhill which is why i say NRS Should lump together MK4, MK5 and MKD With a twist of course or a slight nodge like in MK9

I actaully want this to happen. It be much better. I couldn't picture Shinnok being a big boss.

You have to remeber in one of the interviews, boon said we haven't seen the last of our favorite characters.

And I want my favorite characters(Kung Lao, Sub-Zero, and espically Liu Kang) to be apart of the story:/.

If the MK9 Story Mode kill-offs are made permanent, then that obviously means several major characters would be discontinued, and frankly, that is NOT good from a business standpoint. I'm not an advocate of the "star system", but one thing I have always noticed is that people will only pay money for a form of entertainment if it includes its biggest stars. Do you really think the majority of the MK fanbase will shell out $60 for a game that's almost devoid of the big-name stars of the franchise? I don't think so.

I must also point out that several endings from the Ladder mode contradict Story Mode, so that might be something else to pay attention to. I've seen weirder things happen, such as being led to believe that all but 4 of MKDA's endings being canon, only to see a completely different MKDA outcome out of left field once MKD came out.

I want Sub-Zero, Scorpion and the rest of the MAIN characters in MK10 too Aldo, but if they decide to add them in as either unlockable or DLC, I'm fine with that too.

The MK10 story (as much as I hate the direction that it seems to be going in after MK9) has to evolve.
I hate the idea of MAIN characters not being in the story, but even worse is the idea of the MK franchise going back to their same mistakes, and ending up with a 60+ character roster in MK10 AGAIN, just to please EVERYONE.

If they have to make Sub-Zero and Scorpion unlockable / DLC characters, I wouldn't be happy with it, but I'd understand why (for story purposes).

I'd be pissed if Human Sub-Zero didn't return in MK 10, but if they find a way to make him human again, and make him an unlockable character / DLC character, I'm fine with it.

I'm sure they can acquire data from the MK online servers and see what characters people like and use the most and move those to MK10, and just kill those that people don't like or use.

Why are people talking about MK4 and Deadly Alliance? We have a new timeline, folks! That means the future is uncertain, so it's fully possible that whatever happened in the first timeline might not happen at all in this one. We might never get to see Onaga again, for example.

I used to be able to give +rep for a post like this.

For all we know, it could also be a continuation of the post-MK 3 plot, with a "twist" (like they did for MK 9).
According to the ending of MK9 "Story Mode", it seems to be going that way (about 85 to 90% chance).

All we can really guess from MK9's Story Mode ending is that MK10 might be a retelling of MK4. We have no other hints on where the story might go afterward.
