Why is it so many people don't understand an alternate timeline?
They just put the same premise to use through the prism of UMK3. It doesn't have to make sense the games that existed before don't hold any sway in the MK universe now. They rebooted the whole thing. It makes perfect sense CSZ took smokes place so he gets the retro.
Ermac was a rumor and never in MK1 he got an MK1 Klassic. Skarlet will eventually get an MK2 Klassic.
People are treating this shit like its pure blasphemy when it isn't.
Im sorry but you all are completly wrong about this. The RETRO costumes have NOTHING to do with the MK storyline. If they did, then in MK9 Story mode, Cyrax would have his MK3 costume, Sektor would have his MK3 costume, all the ninjas would look alike with their MK3 costumes...
the point of the RETRO costumes is to pay homage to MK1-3. It has nothing to do with the storyline or with the timeline (old or new) of the MK Universe, they are gimmicks (or easter eggs, so to speak) for those of us who have played the original games.
so no, it doesnt make sense to give CSZ a retro costume when he in fact did not exist in '95 when the game came out. i realize "timeline-wise" CSZ would have had the kind of costume, but like i said, if they were really that detailed about the background of the klassic costumes, then CSZ would have already had that klassic skin when he was introduced in the story of MK9.
should have been a Cyber-Smoke costume...
EDIT: let me explain what i mean a little more...
MK9 is a re-living/re-telling of MK1-3. Raiden didnt go back in time, only sent images to his past self. So up until Raiden
received those images, the storyline was completly the same. Meaning that the first time around (in MK1-3) Cryax, Sektor, and presumably all the Lin Keui cyborgs had the same looking deisgn to them. By this logic, when Raiden received the images of the future, at this point the cyborgs should have all looked the same (in MK9 just like they did in MK1-3). But Cyrax and Sektor (and late CSZ) all have individual unique designs. Therefore, the looks and outfits of the characters dont tie into their story at all.
So Sky Valley is right in saying that it doesnt make sense to call something Retro when in fact it didnt exist in the past. You guys are using the wrong context of the word "retro." As mentioned before, the retro costumes are just a gimmick to pay homage to the past games and those who have played them. The whole "CSZ was now in the timeline" doesnt make sense b/c the klassic retro costumes have nothing to do with the MK timeline.
Admittedly, the klassic skin doesnt look bad on CSZ (kind of a Hydro-esque look to him), but im not too happy that they chose him over Cyber-Smoke. It would be made exponentially more sense to give Smoke a cyber-alternative and give CSZ an alternative as well (maybe in a DLC pack with skins for all the DLC's) that was unique and not just a palette-swap.
