Never Was

Typically, we think about people who came and went as what is known as a "hasbeen." What about those who never got the opportunity to try and be great? With Skarlet getting her shot at being a "real" character in the previous game and Tremor poised to make his debut in Mortal Kombat X, it seems only right to make a thread about characters who never got their chance. I think we should discuss characters who were featured in only one game as either background filler or someone you fight only once. Characters that you thought were intriguing in Defenders of the Realm and Conquest are also up for discussion. You all are welcome to toss out any character you want but remember this is NOT about characters who have been on main game rosters so going to bat for your favorite post-MK3 character is not really what this is about. It is intended to be focused more so on the obscure characters. If this confuses any of you, fear not. I'll post an example below of what I'm looking for so everyone can understand.

Jataaka

Origin: Mortal Kombat Mythologies

I always thought it was pretty cool that Quan Chi had a team of three ladies as capable warriors. Considering the fact that Sareena has been in Armageddon and made a cameo in X, I think it would be cool to have Jataaka in an upcoming game. Her look was very unique, as she had dark brown skin, white hair, and wore black lipstick. A perfect way to bring her in would be Jataaka being part of a group that is trying to restore Quan Chi to glory and naturally, viewing Sareena as a traitor, which leads to them feuding. I could see her being a henchman for Liu Kang and Kitana, too, now that they rule the Netherrealm.

Siang from the original malibu comics. He was an interesting concept, being as he was the combination of 2 brothers who were chosen as defenders of earth. Kinda like if Torr became a big badass if he ate Fera...

the most iconic character in MK9

I'm back. (any1 else hyped for T5? xD)

OK, well, as I said... Good thread. If Boon & Co. won't let the minor characters shine, we will.

My list of characters I'd like to see in future games is quite long. I tried to be picky, but anyway, all of these characters interest me. Wheter they become playable or just cameos, I don't really care. Even proper cameos would suffice and be a good start. Here goes...

Zaggot & Rook
Asgaarth
Jerrod
Baphomet
Lucifer
Komodai
Kahil Grigesh
Ruutuu
Tiamat
Ruby
Siang
Oniro
Grum
Vapor

I wanna know more about these guys and see some of them in the game. Some due to their designs and potential gameplay, some due to story.

That is quite the list! I wish you would've included some pictures, though, because I've never heard of some of them.

It would be cool to see Lucifer but I think it would be hard to really do him justice. I mean, you would want to make him strong but where do we draw the line between strong and outright cheap? The design would be hard to get down, too, because you want to make him look scary but not corny. That's the issue with a lot of movies in my opinion. Last but not least, I think Lucifer was killed by Quan Chi and Shinnok.

Glad to see im not the only uber nerd who reads the old comics.

I would also like to see at the very least a story cameo from the 2 khameleons. I realize that in a weird way they are kind of the same character, but to flesh them out a little more in their relation to Reptile and make them actual entities in the cannon almost NEEDS to happen.

Any character in the Malibu comics and even in the current ones.

It would be cool to see Siang just because he's two guys in one.

Yup, it is. Sorry about that. I will update the post tomorrow with images and reasons for each character :)

Yeah. Some of these (Lucifer/Baphomet) would probably be a challenge. In the case of these twp simply due to their names. People would expect a lot. Not a 50 foot hairy goat with red glowing eyes who whines and cries blood. It's like approaching the design of Shao Kahn/Shinnok/any other boss. How to make him powerful, scary and big, but at the same time meaningful and fair. But I think they are up for the challenge considering how well they've done with MKX.

Haha :) Yeah, I think they were decent. Can't really compare them to the new ones. Apples and oranges.

I'll be back with more for each one later on.

Oh, absolutely. I too think it's a wasted potential. And I find it ironic considering NRS seems to be pretty good at revamping characters, especially those that sucked. They ignore C and K, because they don't like them, but don't realize they could like them if they treated them better and updated them like some of the characters for MKX or MK9. Especially Khameleon. I really want to see those lizard tits evolve. I want Reptile to become happy and see how everything ties in together. He could rebuild his race even. Imagine Reptile even wiser and with a crown on a throne. It sucks, because there are so many places NRS could explore and elaborate on, but we're still stuck in Outworld and Earthrealm with the rest being outsourced to spin-off games and the Krypt.

Nameless Outworldian who fights Liu Kang in MK1. I always loved the guy's ferocity and his look.

Exactly. It would be great but really hard to pull off. I still don't think Dante's Inferno (the video game) did a good enough job for the final battle.
