I don't really think this is an opinion type deal, if you don't choose the spine rip your opinion is wrong lol. We all know the spine rip is the most iconic fatality, doesn't mean it's the best.
 
Sub Zero's MK1 spine rip no doubt, and I'm not being bias because I'm a Sub fan, but this Fatality is the one that really blew people's minds when MK first came out, and is the reason MK got so much attention from the censors, and to this day its still my favorite. I'm glad they're bringing it back for MK 2011, even though its a DLC.
 
sub-zero's spine rip of course. no brainer there. next i'd say scorpion's toasty. then liu kang and kung lao. hell, i'd put kano and reptile up there too.
 
Bottom line, the spine rip is the most iconic fatality, and no one can argue with that. The MK team said it themselves, plus thats the one that shocked and awed everyone, and led people to go crazy and initiate the rating system we have today.
 
Scorpion is my favorite character, but I gotta give the most iconic fatality to Sub-Zero with the Spine rip. That was like the most visually violent fatality back then. It really stood out and it is still one of the best fatalities to this day.
 
I said Toasty but I almost picked Spine Rip but just the number of games that Toasty has been in made me pick it. Spine Rip has only been done right in two games and the are both just named Mortal Kombat.
 
1) Spine Rip because it has been seen in different movies as well.
2) Toasty

However, the best out of that list is no other than Kung Lao's Vertical Hat Slice.

First of all, all of the articles I remember about the MK controversy back in the day mentioned Kano's heart rip with the most emphasis, not the spine rip...

Secondly, I take issue with this attitude that this cannot be argued about. It is an OPINION question. "Iconic" is not factually verifiable, and is thus an opinion question by definition. This is the second thread I've witnessed since I've been back where this kind of attitude prevailed. What is the matter with you people?

Having said all that, unlike the other thread, in this one I agree with the majority. In my OPINION, it's clearly the spine rip. Although, Kano's heart rip certainly would have made a better third or fourth poll option than the two listed. I mean come on, those two weren't even in MKI. How can they be iconic?
 
Yeah, I was surprised not to see the heart rip as an option. Absolutely iconic.

I gotta go for the spine rip, though.
 
I'd have forgotten the Heart Rip, too. Scorpion's fire breath is pretty famous, but Sub's Spine Rip is more gruesome and therefore more memorable and iconic.
 
Kung Lao's Body Slice. For some reason, seeing the bones comes out of each side of the victims body is pretty gruesome to me. I just love how they did that in MK2
 
The Fatalities that put MK on the map as most contreversal game were orignal Sub Zeros Spine Rip n Kanos Heart Rip fatalites!
Ya'll can hate Kano all u want but he was good for something!
