Hey

Well im just compared figures and MK on ps3 has sold the same amount in week one than it took MKvsDC four weeks to accomplish

But i think Warner were expecting much better sales as it still lags well behind Deadly Alliance and Deception in first week sales. Plus this MK was a LOOOT more expensive to produce. or am i reading too much into this?

Below are MKVDC sales

Week Americas Japan EMEAA Worldwide Running Total
1 104,044 N/A 23,966 128,010 128,010
2 74,861 N/A 25,670 100,531 228,541
3 49,894 N/A 23,702 73,596 302,137
4 60,217 N/A 26,114 86,331 388,468
5 74,510 N/A 25,725 100,235 488,703

I really find it almost impossible to believe this is selling worse than Deadly Alliance....did DA have midnight releases? I thought this game would sell huge.

If that's true I'm pleasantly surprised. I heavily prefer things the way they were and never understood where people got their ideas about 2D being such a glamorous return. Maybe this will set them back on the track I wanted them to stay on.

Other things to consider would be release date. Didn't Midway typically release new MK's in the fall? Could play into the first week discrepancy, if not overall sales.

For a lot of people, 2D makes for a better fighting engine. I prefer the 2D as well. I'm very surprised this hasn't outsold Deadly Alliance or Deception.

OP, can we get some links of where this information is coming from?

Remember, games were cheaper back then as well. If that makes a huge difference. Thats all I can think of right now.

Im sure sales are going to pick up. Doing in one week what MK vs. DC took four weeks to do is an accomplishment. Its a PS3 greatest hits game. I really believe that alot of old school MK fans that hated the 3D games are waiting to see reviews and hear what other people are saying. Sometimes word of mouth is the best advertising. And im sure once PTOM puts out their review and X-Box magazine does as well sales will pick up. Theres been alot more advertising on television after the release than before and alot of casual gamers will start to take notice. IDK just how I feel I know this game will be the best selling MK of all time. All my friends and my brother have gone out and bought this after playing it at my house. So I have complete faith this MK is gonna blow up.

Because Mk vs DC was a joke. I mean, look at this fatality:

Taj nailed it...games are roughly $15-$20 more expensive now than they were then. That definitely will affect launch day sales. Not to mention, MK was competing with Portal 2. Even if people want both games, the majority of people I spoke to bought Portal 2 first without buying MK, saying they'd get MK later. In this economy, with games as ridiculously expensive as they are, some people just have to wait.

Also keep in mind that the 3D era of Mortal Kombat was disastrous. The franchise suffered tremendously and lost a lot of fans. MK v DC also caused a huge falling out with fans, with people claiming they would never buy another MK, that they were done with MK and pissed that the franchise essentially "sold out". So there's a lot of factors in thise, but Taj makes the most sense so far...games are very expensive these days, not everyone can afford to drop $70 on a game.

All of that, and maybe the rise of game rentals like gamefly, too? If you ask me most fighting games just aren't worth owning. Rent them, play them while they're hot, and just how many of them are going to make you say, oh I wish I had my own copy of this forever.

All of the 3D games are slow and don't have the flow that the 2D titles have. I'm actually surprised that anyone actually likes the 3D games more than this new game.

There is NO WAY MKvDCU outsold or will be outselling it.

people just dont have as much money to spend on gaes as they used to, alot more people are unemployed compared to the time when mk deception and deadly alliance came out. us gamers cant afford to cruise around in yachts buying everything smoking stogies and bending our mind on all the coke money can buy ;)

I dunno, my gut feeling is that this should be WAY outselling Deception. Sure games are more expensive now, and people are being a bit more thrifty with their spending, but the number of people who have consoles and the market for games is MUCH bigger than it was 7 years ago when Deception came out. I mean, even amongst my circle of friends, I was the only person who bought Deception back in 2004, but theres at least 4 other people in my immediate circle of friends who have bought or are buying this new one, and tonnes more people I know outside of that who are picking it up who haven't touched an MK game since the pre-3d era.

So I would be very suprised if this doesn't absolutely blow Deception and any previous games out of the water with regards to sales. Obviously I have no hard empirical evidence to support this, but it feels right :P

Guys, you know gamers and MK fans aren't the only people who buy games right? To other people, those 3D games were perfect to them.

Sorry guys,
