Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

I want to make it as good as I can possibly get it, but you are right about that. I've spent two days on this animation, so I guess it's time for the next one.

I'm still gonna pick at it a little because I can help it, the little details drive me crazy.
 
You're doing great work, but if you're constantly remedying everyone's concerns it will never be completed. At the end of the day, everyone here would love to play an MK game that looks like this and no one would care about all of these nitpicks.

Firstly, there's always going to be people that "nitpick" just as we do. Secondly, it's not really about that. I'm sure that Bleed, like all of us working on the project, wants to do the best he can. And feedback is what can bring out the best in our work IMO. Obviously we won't be able to satisfy everyone who will play this game, that's impossible. But personally, my goal is to at least satisfy everyone involved including myself. Honest feedback, while maybe nitpicky at times, is what will make the end result something really special. Good time management is beneficial but rushing things along is not, just makes people stressed out. I think Bleed is doing amazing work and if he's prepared to remedy any issues people have, and it makes him feel better about the project for doing it, then I don't see the problem.

I wonder if everyone realizes that we're actually having fun doing this.

I think the first one you did looked better in terms of lighting. a lot of the details in the folds in the pants seems to have been lost.
 
We're seeing it out of context here in the forum though as well when seeing it over the dark grey background the forum has.

Also I figured the gif's he is posting are just previews and not the exact ones that would be used in the engine and that any scaling issues would be taken care of by the engine with a setting or something. Like how it was bigger before but now it's smaller.

I like how the cloth looks less shiny on the new one.

I think a problem is some people's perceptions and tastes are different than others but the progress being made so far is still good when taking criticism into account.

I'd say stick a fork in the walking animation and move on as well. The lighting is fine especially if we are going to have different lighting on each stage with palette stuff or whatever. It's better to make the lighting that's baked in be somewhat neutral for that. The lighting on the new one looks like it fits the bill to me.

Hmm, honestly I don't think it has to. He's just keeping his torso straight as he walks. That's realistic. Besides, compared to the original, this motion look light years more realistic. As someone else noted they look like they kept the torso static and just animated legs on the original animation.

Bleed, I like the new lighting best. Before it was too shiny. Subtle lighting is always better in my opinion. This looks fantastic. I can't wait to play this game, 8 or so months from now.

I say move onto the Jumping/Ducking animations.

Come on babae.. lets do tha twist!

Im no expert in bipedal movements, but shouldn't his diaphragm turn along with his pelvis?
maybe not, just bugged me...

lol this after i read and agreed with the 'nitpick posts' lol.

Some notes

I started off by tracing every sprite, after that I had to tweak the animation to make it play smoother. Removing some key frames, adding a few at the end.

The pose was changed a little to have the animation flow smoother.

I still think straight up tracing is going to look like crap, or maybe I'm just not that good. I have to make some little tweaks for it to look halfway decent, and this seems to be the case with every animation.

The lighting was made to match the sprites, but feels too strong IMO. I liked it better when it was darker.


I'll fix the thumb on his right hand, I move the bones and now it's out of place... easy fix. It's another thing I noticed after posting.

Let's see ... What else?

He's got a smaller waist, bigger head and smaller feet.

He really looks like John Tobias although I can't see the moustache . .

The hip does look a little disjointed now that I look at it again. I'll make the torso twist a little higher and call it done.

The head looks close to John Tobias, it's still off but you got some of the features in there.

Did he have the mustache when he was younger? I couldn't find a pic of him frmo 1992 besides the severed head itself which is really tough to see. I know in the recent interview he had a mustache, but not sure if he had it back in 92.

That pic looks an awful lot like the one they actually edited into a sprite into the game. The one in the game was smiling like that... although I think it makes more sense for him not to be smiling if his he got decapitated.... unless he was making fun of \insulting some warrior and was grinning and suddenly got his head cut off and thrown down there. :P
