Not to be a dick, but this project had a Goro with some spikes on his forehead... is not like my suggestion would destroy the concept of Scorpion, who already officially have a flamming skull.

True, but if you notice we went to some pretty great lengths to create a much more accurate version of Goro than the first version with the spikes on his head. To me spikes are a minor detail as compared to a flaming skull which would make Scorpion look like Ghost Rider. I could be wrong here, but where did you ever see Scorpion with a flaming skull? I don't remember seeing that in any concept art for the game..or even referenced in any of the Mortal Kombat games.

Never cared for the Ghost Rider look myself. Glad they dropped the idea, especially with him using chains now and all.

Cool, I'm rendering it again now with the skull a tiny bit smaller and lower. I'm rendering a color mask also, to cut the skull out in Photoshop.

In mugen, it'll be two animations overlapping, so the skull can look more white and have more detail.

Notice Scorpion doesn't do the Toasty Fatality again until MKSM and MKvsDCU, nevertheless, the flamming skull concept does make an appearance since MKDA; currently, it is official that once Scorpion takes his mask off, his skull ignites right before doing the fatality, that's why I was suggesting the change, because with the flame Bleed could keep a realistic zise of the skull and wouldn't need to change the pallete, because the flame would have served to hide the colors; it was just a suggestion tho. I'm fully aware Scorpion didn't had the flame in the old MK games... it could be a secret too... like only if you do a double flawless victory you'll get the flamming skull version.

Eitherway, if you're keeping the classic version without flame or camera changes, I want to point that the spine is not visible in the classic version, that was introduced in the last MK for the first time. This is how the Skull is (normally) integrated to the body:

I think this way, besides true to the original, looks better.
 
Hmm..well then I stand corrected. That being said, the flames are not in MK1 and I dont think it would enhance what Bleed has created which I think looks amazing as is.

As for the spine showing I agree. It would probably look better without the spine showing.Not sure if Bleed wants to render it again though.

Bleed, your Scorpion is amazing. I gotta say that I really appreciate your taking the extra time to perfect Scorpion's Fatality animation. I know it's going to be a Flawless Victory when you're done.

CARZ, as for giving Scorpion a flaming skull, I have to agree that it would look cool. But it's not right for this project. I believe in the spirit of the project which is keeping things as close to possible as they were in the original.

For those who are interested in the history, Scorp's flaming skull does go back to the days of the original. The Malibu comics (while non-canon) often depicted Scorp this way:

Justin - if I haven't already mentioned this, the goro's lair track sounds awesome!



Team - what are we doing about the voice overs? I have a friend who's got a great voice, he "MAY" be able to take care of the narration (fight, finish him/her, character names etc etc) and has professional recording equipment and experience. I haven't mentioned this to him yet but I'm sure he'd love to try.

I may even be able to pull off some of the "punched" and "kicked" voices myself as well as Liu Kang's voices and Scorpions "Get over here!/ Come're!" I've embarrassed myself plenty of times around all of my friends growing up mimicking these sounds. lol

This is just an idea though, not sure what was planned or if we're just using the originals, let me know.

I am all about respecting the choices of the ones who are breaking their asses on this project. It's up to Bleed and Cal mostly to choose what should be done. If this were up to me, I would include Fatalities with angles because I think it would be welcome by any fan. As for the Flamming Skull, I would keep both. The classic by default and the flamming one as a secret. Why?
- Because we all know Midway always pushed a delivery line to MK team, as well as a low budget, that's why several stuff were always left undone in every MK game.
- Because we all know back in those days they had to save as much space as they possibly could and the flame in the head would make Scorpion's Fatality the fatality with more sprites in the whole game.
- Because everyone would agree to have Tsung's lafting pose and Sword Fatality because we know Tsung was rushed, and I think the same goes for the whole game.
- Because it's nothing but pimping the game, making Fatalities look better will never be a transgretion to the classic feeling or fans.
- Because Malibu comics prove John Tobias was the one who came with the flamming skull since the beginning and its not just a new feature; it's a missing feature in the originals.

Eitherway, I will not insist on this; I also think the Fatality looks great without the flame and I also love the original MK as it is. Do I want Tsung's laft, Reptile with a couple of original moves and better looking fatalities? yeap, but I'm not the one who is doing the job and so far I love everything you guys do, eitherway the game is going to be kickass...!

The sprites can be ripped straight from the code or by cutting them out of screen shots in Photoshop. Same way the originals were ripped. The code is pretty much safe though, sprites are easy to rip.

Nice work. Here a little observations to be better: the skull in the original version is not appearing spine (neck). Scorpion has the neck filled with clothes. Look some images:

A other observation is the mask. Look in the images. The mask is more like fabric and not to latex (rubber) which makes it thinner horizontally.

I'm 50/50 on the flaming skull thing, which leaves me defaulting to the original. I wouldnt mind seeing the super rare flamey head. SUPER rare. :)

As far as voices go, I'd love to hear what anyone could come up with. No harm in that. And if it's close enough, I say use 'em!

One thing I really would NOT want to see is the camera changing angles for fatalities. This has bugged me since MK4. To me, the cinematic approach to fatals has always taken away the shock value and rawness of fatalities. In my opinion, Mortal Kombat should feel more like "found footage." Changing camera angles takes the realism away for me. Just my opinion.

I have to make the skeleton next for the fatality, and maybe the fire with particle effects. I was messing with that last night, but haven't made something I liked yet.
