la_luna, you could split the work with Badmouse. There are quite a few images to deal with, you can grab a bunch, and vice versa.
Ok, there are 99 frames for Fatality, skull can be seen in 77 frames.
Since badmouse probably started from the beginning I'll start from no.99 backwards.

If I understood you correctly you want them separated like this, right?

^Yeah, I had trouble accessing it today too.

Anyway I've cut 35 frames of Fatality (from frame #65 to #99) I'll go to bed now it's past midnight here.
I can finish it all tomorrow, or all that's left from badmouse.
 
Yeah, but fill in the neck hole with black, in case they two animations don't match up perfectly.

Also, it's the raw frames that need to be cut out, they are .png and have the blue costume.

The ones I've been posting with the yellow, already have a palette and the colors have been lost. That is what we are trying to avoid, so cut the skull out of the .png files with full color.


I don't remember, are you linked to drop box la_luna? If not, I'll make a folder for my stuff, so I can share it.

They should match up perfectly because I cut the skull and then inverse the selection so the should fit pixel perfect. But I can fill it black just in case.
Oh and I just realized, since I don't have dropbox access, I converted your .gif to separate .png images. Was your .gif the correct size and did any colour loss happen?

Edit: yeah now I red your whole post. Maybe you can .rar raw files and post here for download. I'll do it again, it goes fast.

La_luna, my way for separate the skull from the body is making a mask only using white or black. So if I invert the mask color i got the inverse result and the sprite match perfect. (If you use gray colors will have problems later so White or Black is the best color choose for mugen)

About the sprites, the first 22 frames haven't the skull so I started from the frame No. 23 (Toasty2335.png) And only made 10 frames (until Toasty2353.png).

I do it after work so i will progress slowly. If you want to clean more sprites is ok with me :)

BTW, my file names are :

Toasty2335b.png [skull]

Hmm, I don't use mask, I use Polygonal Lasso Tool and since it's transparent background you only have to be really precise on the neck where skull meets the clothes. Once I mark the head I delete it and save only body. Tolerance is set to 0 so when deleting, neighbor pixels don't get semi-transparent. After that return head by Step Backwards and Inverse Selection and delete everything else except skull, and save only skull. That way both animations should fit pixel perfect. Using key shortcuts I find this method really fast. I can do all 77 skull frames today.

If I overlooked something and there could be problem later in MUGEN with this method please say before I start cutting.

I'll use same names as you did, add "a" for body and "b" for skull at the end of file names. I'll start from last frame going backwards.

edit: I got the raw files now. I thought default Scorpion was yellow that's way I used Bleeds .gif earlier.

La_Luna, you can use Lasso if you want, but turn off the anti-alias.
Talking tith bleed, he told me that need to paint in black some part of the neck.
 
There's no anti-alias on my part, other then what was already on raw files.

Bleed can you test if this is really needed? If so, I'll add it later..

edit2: this won't be noticeable in animation, but there are some transparencies on the mask on first frame that shows skull (Toasty2335). I didn't correct it. Just so you know it's there.

Don't worry about the collar edit for now, that's something I can add later.



About the hole in the sprites after cutting out the skull. I say to cover the hole in the neck where the skull is cut out from, because when you have the screen shake, one animation could move 1 tic after the other. You might see a hole where the head was cut out, I've seen this happen before, that's why I say to cover it up now.

If you don't want to that's fine, if I see it becomes a problem I'll fill it in my self.
 
I got caught up with cutting and I simply forgot. I can do it tomorrow (it's pretty late now here in europe) it shouldn't take much time at all. Also, I wondered why exactly you need it this way and now I get it - screen shake (does it shake during fatality tho'?) Never the less, it'll be done tomorow.. unless badmouse wants to try? I kinda already feel I stole this from him :)
