Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

calactyte, I won't use anything of yours if you don't want me to. I will also step down and won't create a video if it's a problem. I'm sorry for seeming intrusive. I am not one of the people you've described bashing this project. I just want to share the excitement that I feel. And since this has been going on for a while now, I've thought of great ideas that I'd like to expand on. That's all. I am not here to commit mischievous acts.

Not sure who you mean but ok, I'll do as you ask.

I don't care to hide my stuff because it's not really original, we are ripping MK's ideas. If people want it, they'll rip ours regardless.

I totally understand Calactyte, I've worked in mugen and I know how things can get crazy, but really, I don't see how anyone could steal mk1 HDScorpion, for example, even if it's finished and do anything with him, it would be pointless, also, stealing an stage... there are only a few stages in MK1 and everyone knows who did them (I love your work Cal). My advice is: learn the path of indiference.

This will always be "THE" MK1HD PROJECT, no need to seek for respect or aknowlegement when the team is this good.

Bleed, about eyes.. maybe put them on mask if bare skull won't have any, they have to go somewhere I guess.

edit; oh I see you edited your post..
just to let people know I'm not crazy :)

I'm still new to MuGen, but the community of MuGen fans has rubbed me the wrong way. Awhile back some folks came into our thread and were harassing us because we weren't supporting that community in their eyes. One guy actually had made tons of you tube videos promoting our project and then after harassing members here they blew up his account. Minutes later he pulled down all the videos. Frankly the Mugen community strikes me as a bunch of whiny, petulant children.

So personally I don't want to help them. I really don't want some 12 year old editing the HD stages or making scorpion give the middle finger to his opponent as a finishing move. That is what Mugen is really..I kind of hate that. Now if someone contributes and earns our trust then I am ok with sharing work.

Thanks for your interest Sub-Ze[]2o, but right now in my view we don't need to promote this yet. At the rate we are going this wont be done until 2016. That is a long way from now. I don't want to get anyones hope up about this project. At any moment Bleed could get a fulltime job and this project will never get done. As it is our programmer has not had an update in over a year. Now I personally plan to finish what I started and I think Bleed and MrMos3s do as well, but lets see where we are at the end of next year.

Stick around, comment in the thread and if you are still interest in a year from now when we are closer to completion I will be happy for you to promote this. Promoting it this early will mean tons of new members signing up asking the same questions we have answered over and over again. Lets just stay focused and get to a point where we can see the finish line.

Everybody take a deep breath, let's not make a war out of this.
Calactyte I understand where you're coming from, however let's not generalize quite like that. I remember those guys being pretty harsh, but that's them. There's much more to MUGEN community. Some of the key people in this very project were /still are a part of MUGEN community, like Bleed and interloko. Let's not forget guys like Fly (I think) without his work some hidden MK stuff like unused sprites may have never seen the light of day. Badmouse too. Once the game is hopefully out, it'll get ripped to pieces and used in MUGEN by others and whatever your or my opinion on that is, nobody can stop it. It's just a nature of the beast. So make your peace with it despite bad experiences with those guys, or you'll be a very pissed man when (and if) this game gets complete.

Just to clear the confusion:

I have been around these boards for some time now. Before this thread, I had never even heard of MUGEN. Hell, the only PC game I've ever played is Myst (way back when). I'm 24. I'm a console gamer. I have been with Mortal Kombat since the beginning. I have posted in this thread a few times commending you all, those involved with the HD remake. I am merely interested in this project from an art standpoint. I admire your guys' dedication on this project and sit here in anticipation for the next WIP to be posted. I am certain I will not be playing this come release because I simply do not care for PC games of any kind -- solitaire included -- but I certainly don't want that to offend you guys. Mortal Kombat 1 is my favorite game ever created. I am here enjoying the nostalgia that this thread promotes on a more modern level.

I will continue to monitor the thread daily, as I have since its creation. And let it be known, I would never do anything distasteful towards anyone's work. I would only try to promote it to others the way I see it.

I respect your answer on this matter and hope to be involved at some point down the road.

Thanks for your time.

I agree that it might be a little premature for promo vids and stuff. I mean we barely have 1 character completely finished, and I haven't seen a glimpse of gameplay using the actual engine even after almost two years.

I hate to derail the topic at hand, but did anyone get a chance to listen to the newest version of the Goro's Lair theme? I'd like to move on if everyone is happy with it. :) I'll post the link again.

@Sub-Ze[]2o, I don't think calactyte meant you personally, but the general idea of giving hard made stuff to someone who we are not that familiar with. No matter how our views on sharing may be different, you have to understand where he's coming from. Anybody who ever worked hard on something can, I'm sure. I appreciate you trying to help, and I'm sure there will come a time for a bad ass video, but I agree it is kinda too early. You can always critique stuff and help that way, like many, myself included.

@Justin, yeah I downloaded it the moment you linked it. I feel like I said everything before, it's amazing. It's your best one so far imo (theme, not version). Additional touch-ups at the beginning make it even better. I'm listening on a pair of good AKG's as I write this. Keep up..

No doubt. No hard feelings whatsoever. There's a lot that can be done with the materials provided so far. I just wanted to get some ideas on paper with it all ... in recreational time, like how the game's being created, to further everyone's enjoyment of what has been made thus far. Would anyone contest my use of the materials posted in the thread -- not including Dropbox content -- to see what I come up with for fun (without an advertising goal in mind)? Had I not cared about everyone's personal thoughts on it I wouldn't have asked, like what Bleed stated. I want to show you guys that I have the utmost respect for everyone and their work. That's why I am asking. No harm here.

Edit: As a counterpoint to the "it being too early for advertising" argument:

I found this the best time to ask permission seeing as a site has been created. I know it's not promoting the game's release or completion, but it had to have been made to give people an idea, right? I don't want to come off wrong and leave you guys with a bad taste in your mouths... It's just what I have in question.

Sure I'm not opposed to you hunting down stuff in the thread and promoting this if your are really energized to do it. Can you maybe not link the video to this thread? In fact maybe what you create can link to Justin's site. Lets make people who are new to this have to dig a few layers deep. I really don't want 100s of people swarming this thread with comment like, "Yo when I can play this sh3T" .."How soon will it been done?" "You should make Scorpion have 20 fatalities. Here let me go through in detail and explain how I think each one should look." That doesn't motivate anyone and just spams the thread. Does that sound fair?

Not trying to offend anyone; was just that I had a poor experience with some Mugen guys who probably aren't the best representation of the entire Mugen community. Nonetheless, it has made me distrustful of people I don't know asking for our work regardless of how original it is or not. That's all I'm saying. As for the acceptance that MUGEN community will mess around with our work, I thought the whole reason those MUGEN guys got pissed was because Interloko said he was NOT going allow access to his source code. Can people deconstruct the compiled game and tweak whatever they wish without us giving someone source code? If that's true it makes me want to switch platforms. Is there no alternative?

The sprites can be ripped straight from the code or by cutting them out of screen shots in Photoshop. Same way the originals were ripped. The code is pretty much safe though, sprites are easy to rip.

There's a problem with the Skull, and color palette. The skull on there is using the colors of the skin. If I need it more white, it'll need to be a separate animation with it's own palette overlapping in the game.

Bleed are the skull sprites using scorpion's palette? If they are then is better to separate them and use an explod instead, so the sprites will look right with any palette. I remember some problems with reptile in arcade version

I'll work on it some more tomorrow, render it separate.

Also I didn't make him pull the mask from the bottom, because it doesn't make sense in the animation, unless I modify it.

The reference has him in one frame pulling it from the bottom, and the next he's holding it from the top.

Just wanted to throw some ideas...Is there a way to make the spine hidden like in the original? Its really thin and looks a bit funny(maybe its just me). Maybe make the skull a larger also?

Other than that, amazing work
