I own the pad.

Now as you some of you older players now, the layout for the arcade cabinet, as simulated on the Arcade stick is, block button in the middle, 1 is the bottom left, 2 is the top left, 3 is the top right and 4 is the bottom right. The button right at the bottom is the "run" button. Now this is the set up I have on my pad, A=1, X=2, Y=Block, B=Throw, R=3 and RT=4.

Obviously I wanted to emulate the old set up as close as possible, which is not what the default controls are. And because I use custom controls, button mapping can cause desync's, and because of this, I have to restrict what my mains can and can't do. For example, inputs that require pressing two buttons can cause a desync. Plinking can cause this as well. It's very frustrating.

Now you can't remap pads like you can fight sticks otherwise I would have already. But today, a very nice Tax Return came my way and I am now £800.00 better off.

So, would you buy that MK Fightstick? Cause i'm seriously thinking of getting it!

EDIT: I've just watched a coupla videos reviewing the Arcade Stick, and there is also the Klassic Fight Stick that also looks very cool:

I bought it. I love them. I cannot play with a pad now is the only downside. I also made an arcade to house the sticks, I bought two. Well I got one and my brother bought the other.

I had to remap some buttons. I cannot have uppercut in the high kick spot. But unfortunately sub zero feels weird because to the freeze combination is not where I'm used too. I'm slowly getting used to that, whereas the uppercut thing I could not get used to.

I would never spend so much money on an arcade stick. Nostalgia, looks, arcade-feel, whatever. I don't see the point of it.

I can play Street Fighter games with ease on the Madcatz pads, and I could prolly play MK just fine, only the game does not favour custom controls and desyncs ensue as a result. I cannot find a pad out there that has button remapping like the sticks.

I also grew up playing MK I-III in the arcades so i'll be perfectly at home, using a stick for MK 9.

Right now, not using certain combos because of fear of a desync is really restricting my ability to play this game.

Which stick do you have, or do you have the Arcade Stick and the Klassic Stick? If you have both, which do you prefer?

Klassic stick. I had it preordered before it was announced it was going to be the klassic, which was fine because the arcade that we were making was mk1 themed.

I honestly don't think that the stick matters as in which one is better control wise, so whatever one you want will solely depend on your personal preference. The only difference, besides the art, is the tournament edition opens up so you can, if you want, change the parts easier or use it as a case.

I like the look of the Klassic Stick more, I like that the buttons look slightly closer as well.

The Arcade Stick on the other hand is smaller, and looks more comfy.

Hmm, im in the UK but im sure somewhere here must do one or the other, or I could just get one and change the plugs.

Damn, be nice to "test" each one!

I know that both sticks are the same size, but I don't know if there are any differences, like if one has the buttons closer than the other. They both are different than the actual arcade cuz the buttons are not close to one another like the arcades had. That really wasn't a big thing to me, it still feels like I'm 7 years old playing at an arcade.

There is one more route you can go for a stick in the mk layout. You can go to arcade in a box and customize your own. I don't think they have that klassic artwork, but there stick has the layout more like the klassic arcades.

I have the Tournament Edition stick but only use it for the classic MK's, cuz it's impossible for me to get a decent combo out of it in the new MK.

Something to think about is how much you actually play the game. Personally, I'd go with a stick over a pad for fighting games any day, but a lot of that is because I'm an arcade veteran so I'm more used to sticks.

Another controller to think about is the Hitbox:

This style of controller uses single buttons for the directional movements. Since all of the directions are accessible at once, it helps with speed and since all of them are individual inputs, it allows for better precision. I turned my MadCatz SSFVI stick into a Hitbox and I love it.

I've tried arcade sticks before....don't like em at all, seeing as I can move my thumb faster than my wrist...the only advantage I see is button layout...

If I were to buy another, It'd definitely be a hitbox (those things are badass!)

I have the tournament edition stick (got it for free basically since I bought it using the money I got from selling my old iPhone for way more than expected), and I'll say this: MK9 is better with a gamepad IMO but MKAK is better with the stick. There's just something about playing the classicis on a pad that doesn't feel right. There's probably a generation gap in play as well. If you started playing MK on consoles you likely won't enjoy using an arcade stick.

Nice points guys.

That hitbox looks crazy!

It would feel completely unnatural at first but over time you could probably do some crazy stuff that you could never do with a stick or a D-Pad. I mean spinning pile drivers, focus attack dash cancels, air dashing.... all can be done on that thing. It's nuts! You could do crazy dash blocking with that thing on MK 9.

Even though I grew up on arcades as well, I felt more at home with a pad, because my thumb is probably quicker than using my entire hand for a stick. But a pad just isn't an option for MK 9 as the game does not cater to custom controls well. If I could find a 6 button pad that allowed for button remapping then job done, but that just doesn't exist out there.

Decisions, decisions...

Well I can't find anything on Amazon, however there's a few on eBay for sale, and a pretty reasonable price. Most of them are in the U.S. The Klassic Fight sticks must be rarer than owls teeth, because I cant find any of those anywhere.

I have a semi-noob question. Even if I buy a stick made in the U.S or Canada, I assume it would work still when I plug it into my UK 360?

The website says it's only for PC and PS3 sorry I edited a little too late.

You cant get these for 360's? That sucks, the video was kinda winning me over.. I was just looking at the video for MK. It's like the hitbox was designed specifically for MK, as there is now quarter circles, it's just down, forward.

Have you looked at GameStop? Last time I was in the one near me, they had two of the Classic Sticks in stock, and their website says they have both the Ps3 and 360 versions in stock.
