Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Patch NOT Coming Today [UPDATED With Patch Notes]

That is a completely false statement.
Just because NRS had a 3rd party developer do the porting, doesn't mean that they have less love for their product.
Should it have been monitored more closely, before release, for glitches?
Sure, I agree 100%.
There are many reasons why NRS might have had Other Ocean do the porting.
Maybe NRS doesn't have that specialty in porting to other consoles, like Other Ocean does.

It's not just "Oh, NRS doesn't give a shit about the MKAK, so they let OO do it."
There's a lot more that goes on behind the scenes, but everyone is so quick to just bash on them, that they don't think of these factors that come into play.

I agree, the only reason that NRS gave this project to OO was because NRS are working on another MK project or other projects which are too soon to tell that is the only reason why NRS would give this MKAK project to another company...Now what doesnt make sense is why would Ed Boon state that processing, testing, and approval is a long process and then they still release an unfinished patch...someone isnt doing there homework from what im seeing :o

Why are people complaining. Its not that big of a deal

Re: Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Patch Coming Today [UPDATED With Patch Notes]

I agree, the only reason that NRS gave this project to OO was because NRS are working on another MK project or other projects which are too soon to tell that is the only reason why NRS would give this MKAK project to another company...

Companies often farm out development for things like this, smaller projects that involve arcade emulation or porting of old games, to companies whose expertise is that field. NetherRealm's expertise is Unreal Engine so Warner Bros has them develop projects for that like MK9, helping out on Arkham City and developing the Arkham City Lockdown for iOS. It's business. There are some smart people at NetherRealm but I'd keep them on their main toolset, Unreal Engine if it was up to me.

Now what doesnt make sense is why would Ed Boon state that processing, testing, and approval is a long process and then they still release an unfinished patch...someone isnt doing there homework from what im seeing :o

Why does this not make sense to you? Ed Boon and NetherRealm knows far more than you (and everyone here) about how software development and patch deployment to consoles and they don't need to be educated by you or anyone else on how that process works: it takes time and money. I've made many posts about it here, it's a long drawn out process that I know enough about to know I don't want to deal with it. The main goal of the project scope was clearly to fix the big issues, some smaller ones got overlooked or deemed out of scope for the time and money they had to patch the project.

I felt the patch makes a marked improvement over the majority of the issues the first version, notably the online play. Perfect? No but I'm happy enough to continue to enjoy this collection.

Processing, testing and approval does take a long time, but keep in mind that there are some things which may be time taking.
Something like online lag or slight button delay may take longer since they are putting this stuff on current-Gen consoles.
I'm not justifying the quality control prior to release, but I am trying to insert a bit of background knowledge as to what may be happening.
There is new technology in this collection (like online), that have bug issues, which they are trying to get to the bottom of.

Its really not just the intro on mk2 arcade attract thats messed up. All the audio issues present before are still there minus the scorpions "get over here". Granted the patch is much better but 3 months for a band aid is a long time to wait.

And Patrick seriously man i am sorry for naming you and sort of blaming you for this. No excuse but i just quit smoking.

Still not happy with the patch. I agree they know more about the dev side than most, but honestly 3 months is a long time just to fix online and the colour. All though it may be overlooked that these are 3 totally different games running on the same net code, i think they could have done better. The audio surely must not be take long to fix. Infact as a musician myself (allthough never added music to games) i can happily say this should take next to no time. They have the sound files there, i honestly reckon the sound could be sorted in less than a week. Unless there are probs with the sound emulator.

Its easy for you to say because you already have it, us U.S PSN and Xbox Live users were told it would release Dec 6 worldwide for us too but it looks like we are in Dec 9 with no patch

I died a little on the inside when I played these half-baked ports for the first time :P

I went out of my way to get it, it wasn't easy. I did it for all you MK fans.

I'm upset it's not out everywhere too as it makes playing online even harder, I know NRS is upset too that it didn't get released yet for their fans. They are trying really hard for you guys, I know this. I'm not asking you to forgive them, just to be patient as things get sorted out. Soon everyone will have it.

Re: Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Patch Coming Today [UPDATED With Patch Notes]

Thanks for your support Saibot, i hope if released Tuesday we can get a better more improved patch hopefully by then released worldwide

Well they must be doing something seeing as its taking longer for everyone else lol. atleast i hope so anyway.

Re: Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Patch Coming Today [UPDATED With Patch Notes]

We were guaranteed an ARCADE PERFECT game by Mr. Ed Boon himself! And it's not that difficult to do! Use the damn ROMs that people use on MAME all the time!

I love how so many of you complaining act like your experts on what's going on at Other Ocean and NRS

Re: Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Patch Coming Today [UPDATED With Patch Notes]

I am a little confused at Tarkatan's anger. If I remember correctly, he doesn't even have the game, nor has he played it.

Re: Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Patch Coming Today [UPDATED With Patch Notes]

Thank you, Jeff Greeson, for making one of the most intelligent posts here.

I'd like, if I may, to address a couple of points that you made:

I think that no matter how much more effort Other Ocean puts into this game, you are not going to be happy.
I totally agree with the principle of what you are saying. There are going to be people out there that will never, ever be 100% happy. There are people that complain about MAME, this move is a millisecond off or this pixel is one millionth of a shade off. We've all met those people, and you are correct, there is no pleasing them.

I consider myself a fairly serious MK fan, but I'm not an exceptionally technical player and I don't pick through everything with a fine tooth comb. I think it's pretty reasonable to expect emulation that would be considered arcade accurate by people like me. Of course, emulation is never going to be absolutely 100% perfect, but it should be perfect enough so that any issues are invisible to all but the most OCD players. I think audio is a large enough issue that it warrants complaint. Fine, if the audio mix is 1db off or the audio was compressed to run at 29.97 fps instead of 30fps, that's totally within the realm of reason, most people couldn't notice even if they were looking for it. But if the music really does loop in the wrong places, or is silent in Goro's Lair still, that's enough of a glaring issue for even casual players to notice.

I will admit that I'm not a programmer, I know absolutely nothing about programming and patch approval processes. However, that does not preclude me from making judgements about how much can be done in a set amount of time because I can use what other companies do as a barometer to measure that. I don't know how combustion engines work, either, but if I buy a new car and it only goes 40 mph when I floor it, I have a large enough basis of comparison to know this is not correct. I have no idea what NRS and OO have been doing, but it's clear that there have been enormous problems with this patch because other companies patch much larger and complicated problems in much shorter periods of time.

I will admit that our patch analysis wasn't as in-depth as you would like.
I have absolutely no problem with your patch analysis. I don't expect you guys to sit there and try to document absolutely everything. I don't even care if you make mistakes in your patch analysis. My biggest problem is that when you log into TRMK, even now two days later, the biggest headline that pops up is Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Patch Coming Today. I know you're not an actual news site, but you do report on MK news, so this looks sloppy. I'm not even suggesting that you write a new story trying to explain what is going on, just correct the headline so the first thing you see when you log in to TRMK is no longer false information.

Now when you make "conspiracy" allegations regarding collusion between NRS and TRMK, that is crossing the line
I'm not sure who you are referring to here, but I never made a conspiracy allegation. I only said that I think your reporting is biased because you want to maintain a positive relationship with NRS. However, if as you said you have never received any free games from them, I don't see why you would even care about having a relationship with them. That is just a normal criticism, like when people say CNN is biased to the left or Fox News is biased to the right. What led me to that conclusion is staff members constantly defending NRS with completely immaterial arguments such as "you just don't know what it takes to get a patch out" or "be grateful for what they have done." Now, I understand that not everybody is going to be upset with what is going on with this game, but these are completely ludicrous arguments since we know patches can be written faster than this and we don't owe NRS our gratitude just for releasing a game, something they did with a profit motive, not just as a gift for fans. My biggest beef with Pat has been either having, or pretending to have, inside information and not sharing it and inappropriately closing threads just because he doesn't agree with what is being said in them. That's the kind of behavior I would expect from a 13 year old moderator on a wrestling board, not a full grown man with a proper job on an otherwise professional looking site.

Anyway, I didn't want to berate or insult any of you and I can not speak for anybody else who posts here. I just wanted to explain to you how I have formed the opinions that I have and what my perception is of what is going on. I think you deserve to be commended for making a well thought out and worded post on the matter and I certainly wish that everybody here composed their posts with the same grace. I also wish that I always did.

Umm dude they DO use the ROMS for this. It's the EMULATION of these ROMs where the work is done.

Around the 51 second mark of this video you'll see the arcade start up screen showing REVISION 1.2.

Sadly tho that bug still exists in MKAK 1.02, just confirmed it. Only thing different is the game serial number that is shown is now 1000000 instead of 0.

So you don't mean to "berate or insult any of you" but you went and called me a "13 year old moderator on a wrestling board"? Hmmm thanks for that.

When did I close a thread because people didn't agree with me? I left this entire discussion here UNTOUCHED despite flat out lies posted all over it. If you're discussing the "Where is the MKAK Patch Thread?" that was getting too long because of people who were not contributing to the discussion and instead turned to attacking others (much like this thread became). I let that (and this thread) go on FAR longer than I needed to and told my staff NOT to close it or ban people for disobeying our flaming rules. I didn't want it to look like we were censoring anyone.

As far as information I have, don't know where I may have upset you by holding back information but it's not meant to insult anyone. You can question what I know all you want, that's your prerogative. Having covered MK for 16 years and developing games of my own I have developed friendships with many people all over the game industry. I'm not allowed to say certain things in most cases, because of both NDAs and FrienNDAs, but I will sometimes try to use my knowledge of how things work (such as the game development and submissions process) to explain it to people WHY something may be taking longer to put them at ease.

I don't know if they're hoping to get jobs out of it, free copies of games, or what, but all they ever do is take the corporate line on everything and abuse their moderation abilities to try to crush any reasonable questions or criticisms.

That's quite funny. While I do have friends who work at NRS I am not free from critiquing them and their products. I currently owe a friend of mine a detailed review of the Batman iOS game, and I will be preparing a list of things that need to be addressed in MKAK in the case of it getting another patch in the future.

As Jeff said we never get free copies of the games and we definitely have wrinkled WB's feathers many times due to things we've posted here. To say that we're running under their control because we want a job is silly considering a lot of my friends who work there want MY job.

Was this patch perfect? No I never said that. I said it made the game better and I've been very critical of various things about it. This thread here started because I posted here simply PATCH NOTES. Meaning WHAT was changed. Not what is still wrong.

As far as the title of the page, that should be changed we just forgot to throughout all this mess.

It seems to have the same sound issues as MK2 on the PSP's Midway Arcade Treasures , the music would skip a few times during the intro as well.
