Mortal Kombat 11 General Discussion Media Thread

So I was thinking. Maybe Reptile is going to be a secret character? That's how he got introduced in MK1, Boon was talking about it, timetravel shtick and he was alive in X. That would be so cool. Do some cryptic shit, fight him and then unlocked. Would actually add up to Single Player replayability, something NRS games really need.

That would be a lovely callback to the first game. I doubt they'll do it, but it would certainly be a cool decision.

Notice how we haven't seen a sorcerer character yet, so unless there's a new one (possible) then I think Shang's chances are still strong. I think we can pretty much guarantee Quan Chi won't be back this time, and he could do with sitting a game or two out anyway.

Yeah the list is still missing characters. Maybe we'll see them updated tomorrow. Even then that still leaves 2 roster slots that haven't been leaked yet, assuming that Rain is in and Shao Kahn takes up one of the 25 spots.

I think you guys are tripping if you think they'll expand the roster before launch. I can't remember who it was, but there wqs a group of people SWEARING up and down that MKX's roster was going to add an entire row of characters before launch. And we see where that lead.

I don't see why they would purposely make a bogus select screen. If they have a large roster, they're going to want to showw it off immediately. They'll want props for it, they wont hide it till later.

I can't confirm this yet because we've yet to see it, but I'm guessing the reason they expanded the stage select screen is because they split up the stages. Like day/night and past/future versions of stages will be seperate on the select screen, instead of just pressing a button to switch them like in MKX.

Also regarding the whole timeline thing, I wonder if we'll also get future versions of characters. Like mature Jacqui or Old Man Kano.

Yeah as of now the roster is pretty weak, and that's coming from someone who got most of his characters confirmed in a way.

No sorcerers, no cyborgs, only 2 male ninjas, no Fujin, instead of an interesting sub-boss like Kintaro or Motaro what we get is an NRS bog-standard shirtless roided up giant... I can see why a lot of people are pissed off.

It'd be cool if there were more throwbacks to the original games. MK9 had those secret fights, I remember the first time I fought secret Noob. Was so unexpected and got my ass handed to me badly!

Edit: I also forgot to mention Havik. How could NRS not give him a chance? Guy is probably one of the most original characters within the series and was a total badass in the comics.

I really don’t see the point bringing Frost back... Why do we need a second Sub-Zero having a very limited roster? Why is she the returning 3D era character before bringing back Fujin, Havik, Reiko or even Hotaru or Drahmin? I hope this list is somehow not true though. My hype is low right now. Having Jacqui and maybe even her father instead of bad ass characters like Smoke or Noob Saibot is pain in my ass, AGAIN.

Agree with all of this. Kano wasn't exactly a good sign in terms of it being an original / interesting roster. I'm not pre-ordering unless we at least get a couple of Rain/Smoke/Noob/Fujin and probably a cyborg. I enjoyed MKX but I didn't play it anywhere near as much as I thought I would, simply because none of my MK9 mains made the roster, and I found a lot of the characters boring (this is subjective, I realize). I'm not going to make the same mistake again, and buy an MK game that I grow bored of due to bland character selection / design.

So far the best news seems to be that Kotal is back - he is probably my favourite new character since Havik, who I agree will have been robbed if he isn't in this game (at least as DLC).

I do actually think Rain will probably be in, but that's it from my wishlist.

I wasn't expecting this many new characters tbh. Kronika, Geras and maybe 1 more was all I thought we'd get.

We don't know anything about these new guys. Maybe they're what we're asking for. Maybe a new Saurian, a new Cyborg and a new ninja.

I agree with Xenon that some characters like Reptile, Noob and Smoke could be hidden characters like in the MK1 and MKII days, since MK11 seems to have some call-backs to that time.
Maybe that’s what Paolo was referring to in that 1 interview.

BBBLP, I don’t think they’ll expand the roster, but I do think that Shao Kahn and the “?” slots will be added to the final build, with 25 being the main roster count (not including those 2 boxes).
Old E3 builds of MKX had 24 slots, and it wasn’t until some of the later builds where they showed off other characters that they had the updated 25 slots & the “?” slot.

We don't know anything about these new guys. Maybe they're what we're asking for. Maybe a new Saurian, a new Cyborg and a new ninja.

Can’t give “Thanks” at the moment, but I also agree with this.
Plus, if KP1 is anything to go by then we’ll be getting 12 additional characters of a KP2 comes out, which seems likely.
As someone who’s wanted Fujin on the main roster and be part of the main story it pains me that he likely won’t be on there and I can empathize with those that wanted to see their favorite on the roster, but if he’s DLC then I’d rather have DLC Fujin rather than NO Fujin.

Now that I think about it, I'm gonna chill with how I approach this roster. NRS really seems to have hit a great stride in their designs with this game. Everyone looks so amazing and they're using their powers in new and exciting ways. Scorpion FINALLY uses his spear as a ropedart. The only time he's ever done this was in Shaolin Monks. They even made Sonya, a character I cannot stand, look interesting to me.

I'm sure if they decided to add Frost and Jacqui, it's because they have something good planned for them. Because they certainly weren't added because of fan demand.

As much as some don’t like the idea of it, DLC is where we may see some of those most requested characters show up.
I’m thinking that after Tremor was constantly being asked for since MK9 and added as MKX DLC, that they’ll do the same with some of the most requested characters as DLC.
I also agree with you BBBLP. As much as I wasn’t wild about Kabal coming back, I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t think he looked improved upon and that I may give a second chance to characters that I didn’t previously like as much.
I loved Kotal, Erron and D’Vorah and them being back also means that they have big things planned for them in MK11 and they aren’t just tossing them aside, which I’m also glad about.

Exactly! I'd rather have Sareena in Frost's spot!

What actually can be done to make Jacquie interesting?? Nothing. How can they choose her over Takeda. Hsu Hao has more ability to improve than her. I don't mind Frost but i think there are better 3d characters over her. I think Jacqui is the only one getting me mad

I'm generally not one to use the term "wasted spot" very often, but Jacqui would be exactly that. One of the worst characters in the history of MK. Dull, pointless, and uninteresting. Particularly in lieu of other vastly more requested characters. Hey guys, we know you want Noob and Fujin....but hooooowww aboooout....MOAR JACQUI BRIGGS!

God, don't remind me. If we get Jacqui, Kung Jin, Kano and Sonya but no Fujin, Rain or potentially even no cyborg... wow. That would be rage-tier.

Tbh I would take Jacqui over Hsu Hao and bout half of the 3D era cast (excluding Havik, Sareena, Fujin), she's not the best character ever, but she still had some cool points and ideas that can definitely be expanded on in this game (especially if Jax is sitting out).

Agreed 100%.
I don’t see how Hsu Hao is any better, and neither does Kittelsen / Boon.
That’s a pretty absurd statement to make, imo, especially with her only being in 1 game.
I get that people didnt care for the SF descendants in MKX, but it doesn’t mean that there’s no room for improvement.

Exactly! Folks act like Jacqui can't be improved from one game to the next and unlike Hsu Hao, Jacqui wasn't set up to fail. The character's only short coming was her generic design because she has a lot a character and an interested moveset. If my girl make it in I just hope she has a better role in the story to shut down the naysayers
