The goal of every videogame publisher is to sell more copies of their game than ever before. The music was clearly a marketing move by WB picked to appeal to the younger crowd of teenagers who listen to ''artist'' like lil pump and 21 savage. Mumble rap is all the rage right now. WB is just trying to get in on the action. I find it so odd that its 2019 and people still don't understand how marketing works.
"Mumble rap is all the rage right now. WB is just trying to get in on the action."
Tell me how that worked out for all those other companies so far, that followed the trends? There is a bad marketing and there is good marketing. People being pissed about MK trailer is completely understandable. Not only that "song" was a monotone mumble, but it was one of the laziest edits I have seen. Song is literally just slapped on. I put more work in 40 minutes, than that piss poor edit.
We are witnessing one of the most, if not THE MOST brutal cinematic fight to date. Scorpion vs Raiden. Using ancient martials arts to tear each other down, and we got a "song" that...
Run that 90 with the drum attached (Drum)
You a shit talker, we got guns for that (On God)
Tryna fist fight, boy, you dumb for that (Stupid)
You gon' get a bullet in yo' lung for that (Stupid)
Draco get to kickin' like Liu Kang (21)
F&N on me in the Mulsanne (Straight up, straight up)
Glock 19 and a blue flame (Straight up)
I was strapped when I slid inside your boo thang (On God)
21 immortal, we will never die (21)
Loyal to my brothers (Yeah), I'll never lie (Straight up)
Call me bird dog 'cause I cheat and I'm fly (Straight up)
And I love winnin', I'm upset if it's a tie
If you ever try to go against the gang (21)
We gon' drop
There is one mention of Liu Kang. Ok. Cool. Very "relatable" to the topic. The rest is:
"Bullet to the lung" "Glock 19" and a freaking "Mulsanne" which is (for those that don't know) a luxury car "Bentley Mulsanne".
What does ANY of this have to do with what we are watching?
I remember being surprised by MKX trailer music choice, but that one at least made sense. Both speed, energy and lyrics made sense. It didn't feel detached. The song literally described what is happening in the trailer, in neutral fashion.
"It is marketing". Then do a proper f%cking marketing, not half assed shit. Mediocre stuff has to be called out. Standards have to be upholded if they want the money. We already are plagued by companies dropping half assed, asset flip, unfinished games. (BFV, Fallout 76, ATLAS, etc).
How about WE DON'T stop talking, so shareholders/dev would know, that half assed shit doesn't roll with us?
Now. I know this is just a trailer. But after 2017-2018 I have become very skeptical. Audience gives an inch, and their take it 100 miles. If WB is so keen on following trends, then what will stop them from including some "trendy" shit in a game as well? So kids could relate more!
I mean seriously. It is so stupid. Numerous companies showed, that if they just do their thing (God of War, Spider Man, A Way Out), and don't follow some shitty trends, they make great games. After all. Games are supposed to be this artistic vision, which we players experience. It is a ride that takes us to places unknown, to new experiences. Not show us the shit we see everyday. And trailer is supposed to be an invitation to that journey. Gives us a taste of the new upcoming experience. Not show us the trends. Thank you, but we have Trending tab for that shit. I want to see their vision, not what other kids like.
