Liu Kang tweets

Good point.

Maybe Raiden is doing something that upsets the elder gods, so they give Liu Kang god status in order to kill and replace him.

Spoiler:
Maybe it has something to do with him cutting himself with the dagger. He seemed rather angry in the latest comic preview. Maybe Raiden has finally had enough of the elder gods bullshit, so they recruit god Liu Kang to protect them.

A decision they may regret. Though not canon, MK9 endings indicate power would corrupt him and he would become a tyrant.

Raiden may be a little messed up, but IMO he is the best to hold this position.

I like Liu Kang a lot, but IF he comes to confront Raiden because of his death and the thunder god did nothing more than that, I will like to see Liu Kang being ass whooped!

I actually wouldn't mind a Corrupt, God Like LK with Raiden having to team up with Shao Khan somewhere down the line to bring him down.

In the words of M. Night Shamaylyanayan; "What a twist!"

Liu Kang becoming a fire god wouldn't really be a "twist," IMO.
People have been suggesting a scenario like that for a long time, due to Liu Kang's MK9 ending.
While it's very possible that Liu Kang could come back from the dead and request from the Elder Gods that he be the new EarthRealm protector by defeating Raiden, that whole MK9 Liu Kang ending wouldn't really be a surprise, IMO.
For me, it would be more of an "Oh, so they decided to actually make that MK9 ending canon" moment.

I don't mean this game. I'm talking further down the line.

Like have LK in the story but not on the roster, at the end you see him pleading with the Elder Gods and them granting his wish, so MK11 is Raiden getting Shao back to fight LK.

Agreed.

Hopefully Raiden can slap some sense into him. I want the big bad to be a bigger surprise then Liu Kang.

I was thinking maybe Raiden could be the big bad, while Liu Kang steps in as the new protector of Earthrealm.

That'd be more surprising then Liu Kang as the big bad IMO.

we dont know what liu role yet he could be the big bad or he isn't all we know he in and playable i mean who else could boot 3 and we all saw in the tower

Besides, that was an adaptation of his MK:A ending.

Agreed with both, but my point with my previous post was that Liu Kang coming back as a fire god wouldn't really be much of a "surprise," as him becoming a fire god has been a suggested scenario for Liu, before.
When Ed said a "surprise returning character" would be the final boss, I also imagined a scenario where it's like
"Wow. I didn't see that coming, at all."
Fire god Liu Kang wouldn't really do that for me in MKX, as he seems too obvious to be a final boss.
Dunno.
Maybe it's just me.

After he said it was going to be a surprise returning character he said that "not a lot of people will see it coming".

Everybody can think about Liu Kang, wouldn't fit this hint of his if it was him, for sure.

Or he didn't have the same type of expectations as the fans did.

I hope they build LK up over a game or two rather than just have him go God Mode, so I hope it's someone else. I just hope they visit this idea down the road.

That's why i'm really starting to doubt Liu Kang as the big bad. But, IMO, there really isn't a lot of options.

Raiden, Shinnok, and Liu Kang...

Once you eliminate those characters, you start walking into Blaze territory.
Do we really want a random character like Ermac as the big bad, just because it's a surprise?

My bet: when was the last time you saw Kamidogus, The Amulet and Outworld's throne on the same story?

MK:D. Onaga pulling the strings.

Well, after chapter #11 and #12, when they say what the hell is going with the Kamidogus (and by logic, with the blood demon, about Quan Chi) I think we will be a few steps of figuring out who the hell is the BB.

i think it onaga and the blood code in this timeline is way of awaken him insetead of combing all the kamidogus all you are blood of the warriors who use them and and the last thing he need is the amulent

As Kickinwing420 said, I doubt Liu Kang for some of those reasons.
Could be him as the big boss, but I personally don't see it.

I don't want to go into Blaze territory, but I also don't care for Ermac as the big bad, either.
Ed Boon's "not a lot of people will see it coming" comment has me scratching my head, though.
If you played MK9's story mode or if you played through ladder mode to get Liu's ending, you know that Liu Kang's ending is a slight possibility as sometimes certain character endings have been canon, so it doesn't fit with the "not a lot of people will see it coming" comment (IMO).

Maybe I'm over-thinking it though, and that's what will happen.

Of course, it could be Shao Khan again, and he said that so we start thinking other characters are more likely so none of us expect Shao Khan.

Disappointing as hell, but this is Boon we are talking about, and he's a Troll of the highest caliber.

Shinnok could be ruled out as well. I mean, MK9 basically ended with Shinnok saying "I'm the bad guy in the next game."

That's why i'm left thinking it might be Raiden, with the end fight being Liu Kang vs Raiden.

so like a callback to mk9 story fight with liu kang before raiden fight with shao khan

Maybe its similar to Injustice, Liu Kang's revenant/evil fire god costume will be the boss, and his default might be your usual Liu Kang. Just doing some thinking.

If Liu Kang really does come back as a fire god, I'd feel kinda underwhelmed. I understand that it's a matter of opinion/preference but I think it's far too predictable. In fact the whole roster also has a predictable feel IMO so adding more to that list of "saw it coming miles away" would feel kinda boring.
I guess it depends on how they execute it at the end of the day, since that'll make or break Fire God Kang.
