Lack of.....

You think that it's ridiculous that NRS developers are choosing to spend time out of their lives, and money out of their allowance, to work on characters they like, as opposed to characters they don't like?

Do you understand how ridiculously entitled that sounds?

Do you understand that to reinvent Kai, or Frost, or whoever it is you want, would take people months of actual work? And the people having to do that work might, just might, not give enough of a shit about Kai, or Frost, or whoever it is you want, to want to spend literally months of their own lives making those characters come to life just so that you can enjoy them?

I don't think you actually understood my words the way I wanted to put them and then again maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. If that's the case, I am sorry, but I definitely meant that I think it's childish of them to go all "zomg let us kill those characters because it so coolz lolzorx" on characters that they did spent time out of their lives to create and make games around them in the first place. MK4-MKA, remember? That's four friggin' games they created around these new characters. Plenty of time invested. You say that they have to spend money and time from their lives on it, well, I say that they already did that for four games - surely they could have scrapped everything after the first one if they thought they could do better? Nop, they just kept going reaching the all time low with Armageddon. They didn't spend time on better characters or developing the good ones, they just kept the good ones on the bottom and piled up awful character after awful character.

These games are gone, though. What they do, move 100% forward? Nop, they decide that the best thing to do is to bring face after face to just kill them for their laughs and Twitter jokes. I do not agree that wasting time killing characters out of nowhere just for the lolz and the sake of killing the characters they don't like anymore is the way to go. Sorry, but I can't agree with it and that's not even saying I cared for these characters - it's just that I don't think it's mature of anyone to go crapping all over a work that they decided to make public for others to enjoy after they stopped caring for it. It would be better to just shut up and move forward, then. I'm a musician/composer, and that's just the way I work, I don't think it's professional. If you created a work of which you get ashamed of in the future, do you move on or do you waste your time making joke after joke at its expense instead of focusing on better things? Maybe we have different points of view on that, and I respect that, but I just wanted to explain why I think this way.

It's just like the Rain jokes: they created the "joke", they were responsible for making it an actual character with unique moves and story, he was implemented in the original trilogy and then they decide to keep pissing on his existence even though there are players expecting to play as him again. Ermac had the same kind of origin, and look at what he became thanks to some development. Imagine if instead of doing that they were just using him for mocking. No, sorry, I don't agree with it. Ed Boon sounds very childish to me most of the time and I don't think that'll change anytime soon. I respect you, though.

PS.: There was no random killing of Kai as of now, so it's not like that was my point. Frost wasn't randomly killed too, which is a miracle. My point was about the way they treat certain characters and lore nowadays, no matter if they're included or not. I hope I made myself clear.

I think it's going to be extremely funny if these new characters are going to be as forgettable as the new characters introduced in the previous games.

And when NRS is going to be done with them, they'll just kill them off en masse and piss on their graves. While making twitter jokes.

cassies move sets dont exite me at all.
kitana is always way too easy to win with so i dont bother with her
Jaquie looks boring just another dull forgettable earth character so i dont see her having much of a creative move set
dvorah might be good but ive seen no interesting gameplay from her either

as far as im concerned theres only 1 potentially good female character so far. mileena. and that assumption is based off absolutely nothing since theres been no gameplay shown of her yet :/

They need to throw in some female characters with interesting moves like sindel for example. i really cant be done with another special forces character uggggh

Do you want some more beef with that salt?

Do you want some more beef with that salt?

I've already had steak with some delicious seasoning. You can have the bland, mediocre beef yourself.
But thanks for asking.

(dont overuse the salt shaker, too much salt and the beef is fubar)
(its all about the balance)

First of all, thanks for the polite response and the discussion. I appreciate it. :)

Why do you assume that it's "for laughs"? Killing Hsu Hao and Mavado serves a very clear purpose - it's to stop fans from wondering if they'll come back. NRS has no intention of bringing Hsu Hao and Mavado back, and they don't want fans to keep hoping for it to happen. So they die.

It's just like the Rain jokes: they created the "joke", they were responsible for making it an actual character with unique moves and story, he was implemented in the original trilogy and then they decide to keep pissing on his existence even though there are players expecting to play as him again.

Rain's existence isn't being pissed on at all. As someone who has never given one shit about Rain in his entire life, I can honestly tell you that seeing Rain kick Kotal Kahn off a building is the most memorable thing that Rain has ever done for me. You know the saying "actions speak louder than words"? Well, Boon might be making fun of Rain on Twitter, but Rain has never been more legitimate a character than he will be in MKX. Boon's jokes don't change that.

It depends on the work. I might. I might not.

The important thing is not to belittle the people who liked the work. And NRS isn't belittling its fans. Boon might make fun of Rain, but he's not saying "you're dumb if you like Rain." What he might have implied a few times is "Rain shouldn't be your favorite character" -- and he shouldn't! If Rain is your favorite character, then you're probably playing the wrong video game franchise.

You say that they have to spend money and time from their lives on it, well, I say that they already did that for four games - surely they could have scrapped everything after the first one if they thought they could do better? When I look back on the 3D era of Mortal Kombat, what I see is a studio that was, in many ways, not passionate about the games they were making. They were going through the motions, transitioning to 3D gameplay because they had to do something, making characters just because the game needed more characters, reusing models, skins, animations, moves, and character backstories left, right, and center... it was just a disaster.

When I look at MKX, I see a studio that cares about every single thing in the game, from the dark tone that they've been trying to do since Armageddon, to the cinematic story that they're obviously very proud of, to the costume design and animation work that captures the essence of characters like never before, to making sure that the gameplay is as good as it can be by getting progamers to test the game and make sure it works. To me, the difference is as stark as night and day.

So what I want is for them to stay passionate about the game, and keep producing content that is this high quality. No matter what it takes. If that means no Frost in MKX or MK11 - fine. If that means no Reiko, no Havik, and no Hotaru in MKX or MK 11 - fine. If it means no Johnny Cage (my favorite character) in MK11? Fine. These are their characters. All I want is for NRS to include the ones that make them care about the franchise.

Commander I still want Fujin and Reiko in.

One last thing when I described the "ideal scenario" I meant the whole Mk9 roster + new ones, not just my favs.

I still like the actual MKX roster, still 1 or 2 new more faces + Fujin and Reiko + a few evil aligned classics would make the ultimate roster.

Yeah, im start to get bored to see the same characters over and over again...maybe in the next game. we see Mortal Kombat THIRD STRIKE

Not sure if racist....

but the problem is that you kept going on about it even after being "educated" on it.

It's not racist to talk about race or examine it as a cultural phenomenon. It's how we come to some really interesting shit like Critical Race Theory. But I think it's understandable that people are fearful of talking about such things. Race is so not an easy topic. And African American Vernacular English isn't such a bad thing to talk about. Though I admit that I'm ignorant in weather calling it Ebonics is PC or not. I prefer to say AAVE. But whatever. I dunno if this is why EdenianGoddess got banned. People have been getting banned a lot lately. Which is a shame though cause yeah, there's been fights, but they've always seemed to have been settled by the members without mod intervention.

Oh no, I'm petrified! Before you resort to empty threats you should probably educate yourself.

Ebonics was originally coined to refer to the language of the African Diaspora. Since the mid-1990s, it has been used colloquially to refer to a distinctive lect, or variety, of English spoken by African Americans, which most linguists refer to as African American Vernacular English.

I know exactly what slang is, I was asking what the word meant. Please excuse me for not being even remotely interested in learning American slang.

Get off the damn internet, there is no African American dialect. They're speaking plain, old English.
Slang or short-form words are not exclusive to black people so don't try to go about your racism in a cloaked way.
Why would I threaten you?
And why would I not be educated?

Go outside and stop slinging insults from behind your keyboard - simultaneously acting as if to be innocent.

Your point may or may not be valid but this is a board to discuss Mortal Kombat and NRS games not a political science or race debate class. In all honesty, this board is one of the most confrontational gaming forum that i've visited.

Owned... there really is dialects, though. English in the southern states is way different sounding with different idomatic expressions and whatnot than the English spoke in the north. I too am not so sure about a universal African American dialect, but there's definitely some dialects between all sorts of regional and cultural influences. I've seen instances of AAVE in various parts of the country that varied wildly. Now as to the emergence of dialects within English and the historical significance of those dialects and how they were made. Yeah, that's worth exploring I think. It's interesting stuff. But yes, they do happen to speak plain, old English. But that doesn't mean that dialects don't exist.

I know it's about Mortal Kombat. I was just responding to other things that was mentioned in the thread. Mods are more than welcome to come in and delete whatever they feel isn't relevant. We're not robots, we're people having a conversation and conversations sometimes goes in different places.

But back to the topic: Yep. The game needs more women. I do so hope at least 8 characters are women fighters.

We should have a PC discussion thread in the off topics section or the netherrealm. I'd be all over that shit in a heartbeat LOL.

That's one of the things that makes an MK game an MK game. If you gut the roster and start over, it's an entirely different game altogether.

Lmao EG was banned again. I hope he learns something this time...

Hahaha, ouch! It must irk him to no end that Sonya Bland survived longer than he did, considering he was actually on the side of reason all throughout the Cage reveal.

That's exactly why I'm in disbelief towards the mods' decision, but so be it.
