Kitana Revealed!

Kitana might be born a princess, but she was enslaved under Shao Kahn's rule and forced to become his assassin. She might have thought Kahn was her real father, but none the less, she was an assassin first and a princess second while growing up. She was nothing more than a servant like the rest of Kahn's fighters.

I do not agree. While growing up she was training to be an assassin, but she was always a princess. Other characters refer to her as Princess Kitana because that's who she is, and she even does so herself which shows how important that title is to her.

Yes, she wears a ninja mask, but she wears a tiara with it too.

If anyone cares what a lowly non-Kitana fan, whose interest in Kitana has been piqued with her MKX redesign, thinks...

You both have valid points. First, Kitana isn't a fashion model, she's a hardened killer, and she should carry herself like one. Whether you're a princess first or an assassin first is a moot point when you have killed people with your own hands. Kitana should look like a person who has done that.

At the same time, she is royalty and could very well one day claim the throne of Outworld for herself. The seeds for the potential transition from assassin to Queen of an entire planet have to be planted in her costumes already. Her primary in MKX has that mixed with a "Princess on the run" feel... someone who has to occasionally worry about where she'll sleep at night. Nothing wrong with that. I actually love it.

But thinking of the future...

Kitana looking like the picture above would kill any integrity NRS has built for her with her MKX primary, IMO. Royal Kitana shouldn't look like some elf out of World of WarCraft. She should look like a Queen who commands the respect of millions with nothing but a stern gaze and a furrow of her brow. None of that "boobs barely hidden by lacy undergarments" and "loincloth that's 2 centimeters in diameter" nonsense. She orders executions with a flick of her wrist. She should look the part.

I think that using this as a jumping off point would be great:

It's practical enough to be kicking people's heads in, and it's easy to see how it could be prettied up with elegant flourishes and embroidering. Give her a regal high collar, give her a necklace, earrings, and some jewelry encrusted into the outer layer of the dress, and we're looking at something that a real Queen might conceivably wear to a one-on-one battle. Beautiful, practical, and respectable.

Maybe I'll sketch something up. Anyway, that's what I think. :)
 
I think many have a concrete idea of how she should look as a princess... but I cannot agree with all of them...
For me the interesting thing could be the long dress... but I can´t think of an idea that would really satisfy me!!!... Really hard... I think that´s why I love her main MKX and her Jingu, because somehow they managed to express her princess and assassin identity at the same time (even when we´re not talking about classic european princesses)

It would be pretty awesome if they include her later as a DLC. We still need some more female fighters and she is Kitana's mother, and as we all know, this is MK Family Reunion. They could even use those Kitana's design with that black dress and crown.

Thank you for your input. I always thought Edenia was located in a desert oasis and Edenians wore little to no clothing, so that is why I thought it would be interesting to see a really exotic desert princess look on Kitana. I should've stated that I am open to what NRS can do with her royal look. I just don't like the mediocre remake of her MK9 primary. They had an opportunity to scratch that outfit and start with a fresh one but they didn't take it.

As for the Daenerys portion of your post; I'm so shocked that you picked that dress over this one!

I agree about her MK9 look completely. Especially because it looks like her Revenant skin is basically the same thing only Evil. It's just lots of the same old, same old.

Is that a dress, though? It'd be tough to fight in a real dress. Something in between the two would be ideal, practical, but beautiful.

The way I see it, "Princess" is just a title.
In the original timeline, then yes, I would have believed that Shao Kahn had a sort of fatherly love for Kitana, hence why he kept her by his side after Sindel's death. He trained her to become the ultimate assassin and was kinda a prize that he showed off to people, like "I killed her people and took her lands, yet she is completely loyal to me and kills whomever I tell her to without question!".

However, in the new timeline, Shao Kahn even tells Kitana that he doesn't know why he even bothered to keep her alive all these years. He holds no love for her, because she is just another disposable minion. He doesn't see her as his daughter. She's just another slave under his might. People just continue to call her princess, because that is what they are lead to believe she is, that she really is Shao Kahn's daughter, but in reality, it's just a title Shao Kahn has given her to keep up appearances. She's just a doll he dresses up, so to speak.

Her entire life is a lie. She holds no true rights as a princess while under Shao Kahn's rule. But as an assassin, she's feared and has 10.000 years of training and killings behind her. Hence why I say she is an assassin first and a princess second.

That's just my theory though.

I DO hope she will at some point free Edenia in the new timeline and rule it as its queen, gaining her true heritage as royalty.
