I kind of disagree. I believe Story is just as important as Gameplay. The thing is... don't kill them in the first place. In MK1-MK3 the only deaths were Bi-Han (which was permanent) and Johnny Cage. Since Tobias left they have gone nuts with killing people off and resurrecting them.
I just wish they'd get an actual writer in charge of the story who knew what they were doing.
I think story is what drives this game.
Gameplay is important because it's the realistic way that we get closer to the story.
It's how you make that happen.
Also, is the way we have fun. Just fun, just to fight when you want, or have nothing to do.
But is not blood that makes MK different than any other games. Not even fatalities.
MK is different because it has a solid story.
That's why I wanted Kitana and Kung Lao at the least to be unlocked after we win NRW.
MK is not a COD game where some buy just to play multiplayer.
MK is all story, there is no way to avoid it!!!
