James Wan to Produce new MK movie

I still can't see why they couldn't make it work without totally screwing the characters.

Baraka turns in to a human contortionist. You're saying they really couldn't make a convincing Tarkatan monster (or any other character) work today without going power rangers? I find it hard to believe.

I absolutely believe that they could make an amazing Baraka, he isn't a difficult concept. It's the mascots that bring the most trouble. Find me any picture of a live action Scorpion that doesn't look dogshit stupid tho.

I didn't find anything wrong with the Legacy II Scorpion. The Samuria mask is awesome. It all makes sense that he's an ancient spectre.

I'm even cool with Legacy II Bi-Han, which everyone jokes about being paintball Sub-Zero. His suit seemed more high tech/tactical than an outdated ninja. Which makes sense too, considering the Lin Kuei is still thriving as an assassin clan and are on the verge of the cyber initiative.

But forgetting about MK Legacy, yeah, I believe they can make it work. Take Ben Affleck's Batman for example. The new suit is literally the classic comics Batman (armored suit is identical) and it looks great. As serious and dark as the film was, it worked. If filmmakers took MK as serious as Batman, they could have the same results.

Batman and superman are huge examples. They took the look directly from the comics and made it work for live action, even with the dark tone. I also liked the legacy 2 scorpion with the samurai mask. Also, if anyone has watched the daredevil series on Netflix, very dark tone and an outstanding show. I actually wish mk had a Netflix series instead of a movie since there are so many characters. His superhero costume works and Electra looks a lot like Mileena in costume.

Are you kidding me? He looks like he's wearing a ninja suit made by Grandma.

I can understand where BBBLP is coming from, but the Captain America quote a page back keeps me a believer that MK can be done right. We just keep looking at shit like Annihilation and think. "Nah, They will always look like a bunch of adults forced to cosplay at a convention"

I think if they go with a more MKX clothing style for Scorpion, still having that orange/yellow theme, but less of it. More black with hints of yellow/orange.

Like 85% BLack, 15% Orange/yellow. So you still know it's scorpion, but it's more believable.

I think the problem we face is. When we look at the first tournament. We think the world is like normal. Follows the same rules as real life. Then all of a sudden, ninjas/magic/reptiles/portals/dimensions/gods

You're gonna get people thinking "Oh a fighting movie." Imagine if the movie "Rocky" Ninjas started coming out of portals and shit. It would throw people off.

They might have to do one of those cheesey intros to explain why "Mortal Kombat" tournament exists. just so people are prepared for shit like "portals".

Or they could start it off with how the world was created with the elder gods and the One Being. So you're mentally prepared for a journey of seemingly realism to sorcery and shit.

This is why I think they have a problem finding the right "tone" MK is dark, but it's also silly.

EDIT: actually screw all that, just have the first scene. Raiden coming down in a thunderbolt and talking to Bo Rai Cho or something with electricity coming out of him. That'll get you read real quick.

But it's more visibly recognizable as Scorpion than any other live action version of him, and it's from the BEST Live Action adaptation of MK. That's the most important part.

Does THIS look visibly recognizable as Scorpion to you?

It doesn't look visibly recognizable as Scorpion to me, that's for sure.

you're arguing with the wrong person here. I don't like Rebirth either.

I just understand BBBLP's criticism of that scorpion you posted. He looks like a bad cosplay.

BBBLP hates anything that's even remotely "purist". You are sadly mistaken if you think there's anything beyond such bias with him. The most faithful to the Source Material is ALWAYS the best, and any statement to the contrary is a lie. It's people like BBBLP that keep pieces of shit like Uwe Boll in business.

At 7:40 mark James Wan talks about the mortal kombat movie, he mentions the script is not done yet and they still not sure the tone they will approach for the movie.
If they are going thru with this movie, which I hope they do, I wonder if they'll pick up where the last one ended. Thoughts?

I would think and hope it's a complete reboot. even the first movie doesn't hold up well and even then, so many fan favorites weren't given the story set up they needed or were killed off. Would be so much easier and beneficial to start over and find its own tone. Like one of the guys said above, finding the right tone for mk is tough though cause it is very dark and brutal, but the premise is silly. They need to keep the characters true to the source but take their own liberties with the story a bit.

I like how you want Scorpion to be cannon and crap on BBBLP, but are completely fine with scorpion having a living creature that comes out of his hand as a spear that has a mind of it's own. That's not even close to cannon.

The 95 movie is still the most faithful to the source material, and it's not even close. It's still Superior to all other live action MK products for that reason alone.

Just a thought. If they do make it, I'd like to see it giving some background on each character and as dark as the video game.

I'd like to see fully fleshed out characters with their own storylines too. If it's successful, it just may get the comic book movie treatment with characters getting their own solo movies. Considering WB is trying that with the justice league and taking account that mortal Kombat has become a hit again in the video game world, it's possible.

I like where this is going. But the problem is, in the main story, you can't flesh out all the characters. There's just too damn many of them. Most would have to be treated as glorified side characters until they get their own movie. But I still like this idea.

The main story would have to focus on main fighters and main villians.

Exactly! The main movie should focus on the tournaments and center around just a handful of characters while giving a brief background on other character's motivations. Similar to how the first movie did it or even look at guardians of the galaxy with how they introduced and developed their characters. Then you have can develope solo movies based on the characters themselves.

I think scorpion and subzero deserve their own movie about their rivalry. There's so much to tell about their clans and what happens to them. Obviously there's plenty of other characters they can do this with but start with the most popular ones. I really hope they can make this happen but who knows. The first movie will have to be very successful as well.
