Is Ed Boon sure he's doing the right thing?

https://twitter.com/noobde/status/483254830622707712, also what do you think of the Kove and Outworld market because I see both Dvoaroh and Ferra/Torr fiting in those stages. I could see Dvorah have a nest in the Kove and letting her babies eat on poor unsupecting sailors and I could see Ferra and Tor running the Outworld market and messing with merchants

Sure, I do agree with the ideas you present in your post, but I meant "fit" more in a "previously developed element" way, know what I'm saying? I don't remember any mentions of a race similar to D'Vorah's nor much importance given to an Outworld Market. Of course, they are new elements ready to be developed but... It all feels more like creating something to fit a character than a character to fit in the established series. Like Nitara - WTF was a vampire doing there? Not only that, but almost a stereotype of what a vampire-like monster would look like, with those ridiculous wings and all.

PS.: Keep in mind that I wasn't much interested in the Konquest TV series back in the day, so maybe I lost something and those elements are from that series?

Edit: Marcelino also has a point about the size of the roster, which brings me back to the fine line that MK walks when introducing new elements... Not too soon, not too late.

ED BOON-I've heard some of the Mortal Kombat 9 characters was either killed or they died.My question to you is this, ED BOON,is there a 50-50 percent chance can you resurrect/bring back some of the Mortal Kombat 9 characters back from the dead & into the Mortal Kombat X game? THANK YOU ED BOON! You're one of the good guys.

See I'd be okay with a large cast (30+) because that means the characters who are low tier are mine to master :)

But no, I think 24 is a fine number. I'm just hoping it's not mostly MK123 returns, but MK4/5/6

I think they could do a great job with the same number of characters as MK9. It would be enough to bring some new, relevant fighters and still give us some meaning ones from the past (we don't need them all - just some of the most important ones to keep things established).

In another thread I mentioned how MK is absolutely loved here in Brazil... Well, I know I can't speak for the entire country, but most people I know were fascinated by MK 9 exactly because it had all their favorite characters after so much time giving us meaningless new ones and some awful redesign of the old ones (though this carried on even now with Reptile, sadly). I remember getting to the store to buy the game and the seller was really, really excited because it was the first MK in years to "appeal to the fans" (ie a good game, with effort behind it, plus fan-favorite fighters). I have a feeling that MK X will be a experience too similar to post-MK4 era if they just decide to get rid of the old faces/settings/etc.

Yeah, I'm doubting a lot of the MK Trilogy characters returning due to a lot of them dying in the last game. Not to mention Ed already mentioned that this game will have a lot of new characters in it. Also, remember that rumor where it was something along the lines of: few from MK9, some from MK4-MKA, and a lot of newcomers.

Some logic that people aren't considering here, is that death does NOT matter in MK. Sure, Kombatants "died" in MK9. But as shown in Raiden's chapter, they're not gone. Quan Chi has their souls in the Netherrealm. Resurrection is a common thing in MK, as well as time travel. Klassic Kharacters can still show up beyond MKX. I want Noob back for MKX, but I won't freak out if he's not put in. It's a new game. And as MK fans, we should all be excited that we get another installment. Sure, everyone will have an opinion on the game. But I think it's way too early to start freaking out over things that are nothing but speculations.

If death was ever final in MK, then why does the Netherrealm exist in the first place?

Death may not always be final, but it also shouldn't mean absolutely nothing. These characters should not be up and well in the very first game that follows their deaths. That's fu****g stupid and cheapens the MK9 story.

If death meant nothing the first time in MK, it should mean nothing ALL the time in MK. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

Because they are trying to make the series BETTER. That was the whole fu**ing point of MK9. They hit the reset button so they could do things differently.

And how is killing off nearly all the stars considered "making the series better?" It's impossible! It's really making the series WORSE! Why didn't they just stop at Stryker?

Because they gotta create new stars to expand the mythos, introduce new races and playstyles, and all around evolve the lore

You never, EVER make room for new characters at the expense of PROVEN fan favorites. Do so at the expense of filler characters like Stryker, Kobra, Hsu Hao, and Sheeva instead.

They still have a lot of fan favorites and seeing how the last games is a reboot of MK at its prime they are gonna have to knock out a few fan favorites at the expense of new characters also I thought that MK9 made Stryker pretty damn popular

Dude, you don't know a DAMN thing about story telling or anything like that. Grow up and let go of the past. They didn't kill off the major players of the series. Just a few lesser fan favorites.

Characters who have been franchise mainstays such as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kitana, and Jax are characters you are supposed to build around, not throw in the trash!

You are NOBODY to tell me to "let go of the past"! I didn't do ANY harm to you, so get off my ass!

Yes, death may not be a factor in the MK series, but bringing them all back just after one game is nothing but poor storytelling.

It trivialises death, and while the game does that with it's fatalities, the story should not.

Why?

It completely destroys any effect that death scenes or near death scenes have if you have you have the thought 'doesn't matter, they'll come back later' lingering in the back of your head. This eliminates potential tension and makes it hard to emphasise with the characters.

Why does it make it hard to emphasise with the characters?

It removes their mortality. This in turn makes them less relatable and compelling because it just feels like there is no real risk them fighting for their lives, so what makes them special? It's kind of like that cop out where in the end, somebody wakes up to find that a bunch of tense events was all just a dream. It makes you think, 'well, that's bullshit.'

No matter what way you swing it, it's poor storytelling. Just let the dead sleep for at least one game.

Besides, it's called 'Mortal Kombat,' not 'Immortal Kombat.'

but these are fan favorites! They should be immortal! Cause that's how sh** works!

Cheating death has already been established as part of the cultural fabric of MK; Scorpion and Bi-Han did so on Day One! If you REALLY want death to be meaningful, then how about disabling the selection of a character who receives a Fatality for 24 hours?
