I wished it would be Cyber Smoke instead of Cyber Sub-Zero

I think its sad that people are so unaccepting of change. csz makes sense with raidens meddling, i saw it coming in the story because lets face it, this may be the best storytelling built into any fighting game i can remember but fighting games have never been story heavy either. so while its great, its B movie great, which is amazing for a fighting game imo.

They had a chance to revamp the story to both make it make more sense for newer players and provide fresh changes. Fact is we have too many subzeros at this point (and subzero is my absolute fav char in mk) making a change is a good thing.

as for the usefulness of csz i think hes a very strong fighter. people complain about his stolen moveset but really, its better then the cosmetic changes you get with human cyrax and sektor alternate costumes. he has some original moves, and for the person who said his combo set is weak, i find it quite comfortable, and hes got a great simple high/low sets to switch up on blockers, hes a strong fighter, and the only reason hes low in rankings is both because hes new, and because people dislike change. hes the offensive version of human sub, and i love both

Anyone else? I think CSZ is a cool addition but I don't like the fact that they made it canon. It would have been much better if they have sticked to the original storyline with Smoke being captured after the events of MK2. We could have a human Smoke character and a Cyber Smoke to unlock by playing the story mode.

The MK3 part just didn't feel right with Sub-Zero being a refrigirator. Even if I don't like the Joaquin Phoenix version of unmasked Sub-Zero very much I think it would have been pretty cool to see this Subby alternate protecting Earthrealm and getting his legendary scar!

We've never seen cutscenes in old 2d games, that's why it was awesome to play MK9 story mode. We've seen the tournament, Scorpion killing Bi Han, Jax losing his arms, Sindel's resurrection etc. I'd like to see Cyber Smoke protecting his former friend Sub-Zero from Sektor and Cyrax. Like a fight between mission and human's conscience

Not that I don't like CSZ, but this character should have been once or twice in the challenge tower similar to Reptile's "cyber version" there as well. Well, he made it on the roster...
For me, making CSZ canon is the only big flaw in MK9.

Just found this one. That's how badass Cyber Smoke could look like. It would be so awesome to have two Smokes instead of two Sub-Zeros on the roster

Agree 100% with this.
I hate the tired and recycled argument of "It's something "NEW" and "REFRESHING" to have Cyber Sub-Zero. Therefore it's good. So, why not have Cyber Sub-Zero, just for the sake of it?"

Forget the fact that it completely SHITS on the MK II / UMK 3 Sub-Zero timeline, as long as it's new and refreshing, lets go ahead and f*** up the MK 1 thru UMK 3 characters. :-(

EDIT:
Let's not forget Cyber Smoke was the "Original" MK 3 playable Smoke character.
Human Smoke was nothing more than a grey Scorpion rip-off back then.

MK9 shows the consecuences of the butterfly effect, so if you travel in time let the titanic sink, because if you interfere it can have very bad consecuences in the future... lol

putting aside how you feel about the changes that come from changing the past.............. I have to thank everyone at Netherrealm Studios for doing what they did. As i see it, ninja smoke is far better than robo smoke...... and as for sub-zero.... although i prefer ninja sub-zero over CSZ..... I WOULD take CSZ over unmasked SZ any day of the week. hes something new and something we'll get used to... atleast for now

the idea of anything taking a dump on previous timelines is moot because its a new timeline in itself where changes occured. as such there is no crapping on anything.

and i like cyber sub zero, now if they would just make his ice bombs work...

oh, i also like human smoke better then cyber smoke, so its a win win for me.

It wasn't done solely to make it new; it was done because it tied in with the time shift element. It has an actual reason in the story, so your analysis is stupid. I suspect that you wanted Cyber Smoke, and that's why you really dislike it. There's nothing wrong with you preferring him over CZS, but if you're fine with them adding CZS "just to have him", why couldn't they do the same for Cyber Smoke?

And you can say Human Smoke was a rip-off of Scorpion, but that was a different game. Human Smoke in this game is extremely different, so who cares about his abilities in UMK3?

I agree with this. There was a reason for Sub-Zero to go Cyber. Arakynd03 and many others may believe that him being put in for the sake of change is bulls--t, but stagnating the series for the sake of tradition is equal amounts of bulls--t. Change was the only reason this new timeline isn't the Original Timeline. The Alternate Timeline was brought about to give purpose to retelling a story that we've heard before. In order for it to be "alternate" there must be changes to the original blueprint. Raiden tampered with the natural order of things and thus the natural state of the MK Universe was thrown to the lions. Cyber Sub-Zero was just one such ripple in the pool that Raiden threw a rock into. Sindel, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, and Motaro were all deeply affected by the changes as well, they were also moments that kept the story from falling into complacency.

I think that CSZ is a strong fighter, sure they just took another move list and adapted it but it's still good yes I think in MK9 as DLc they should have Cyber Smoke but it's a nice change. For future Mortal Kombat games there should be the regular roster and then a little bonus roster with CSZ, Cyber Smoke, Human Cyrax and Sektor, and other bonus character like they have Kratos maybe add like Kenshi if he won't be in the main story plus Cyber Sub-Zero is cool looking he's like a predator only awesomer.

People are so afraid of change :D

Not gonna lie though if they made like Jade into something stupid.... I'd be annoyed as well lol. I wouldn't complain or make a thread about it though.

necrothread is what?

hes a robot now, unless they do something storywise to change that, hes going to be a robot.

hes a good char either way

I doubt it.

He's dead if he gets resurrected, being resurrected as a cyborg wouldnt make sense, since the robot parts are just a material thing, he will be resurrected as human, as he is.
Imagine this.

Smoke died by a broken neck, so this means that when he gets resurrected he will walk with his head facing backwards? No.
Jade died by a ripped liver, if she gets resurrected she will live without her liver? No, she would die again.

Same applies to Sub-Zero, if he is resurrected he will as an entire human, without robotic parts. Now if he is resurrected as a zombie thats different, because thats only a reanimated dead body, but resurrection is more like a soul thing and his soul is human, and if you want to make it more scientific like, his DNA is human.

And NRS would never remove one of his most popular characters. It would be a huge mistake...

they got rid of the first zub zero, brought his brother back, wouldnt even surprise me if they did something similar lol.

either way tho, there has to be something done storywise (like i said) for him to change again. and imo would be for the worse, story continuity is a important thing, if they can kill/reanimate characters on a whim it will become as bad as dragon ball z.

as for the resurrection thing, a broken neck is a lot easier to replace then...well...most of your body, so it again would be nothing but cheese.

i go by the saying, you made your bed, now sleep in it.

this is all my opinion of course, as is the basis for this thread someone elses.

I dont see NRS removing Sub-Zero, Kitana, Jade, Kabal, Noob, Smoke, Liu Kang, Kung Lao for a game... it would be a huge mistake...

The same mistake they comitted in the 3D era, removing good iconic characters with lame copy cats and generic guys.

lol should i bold the part where i said something would have to be done storywise?

they are already screwing with the element of time, thats the only way they could do it at this point without it being downright cheesy. but people will always rage between something new and something old because nobody likes change.

either way, this is a old thread that had no real reason being brought back, was just surprised to see it back at all :P

I don't get it, before we learned about CSZ or Smoke being in the game, everyone was wishing that there wouldn't be a Cyber Smoke. Now that we got our wish, we want him. We're sounding like spoiled brats.

Honestly CSZ was REFRESHING to see,and I also fully enjoy the alternative timeline and how Subby was changed to a cyborg.

I see a trend amongst most longtime players of any given franchise. They dont like change.they are scared of change.(for some strange reason) They want the same thing over and over and over again

If we keep living in the past we can never go forward.CSZ is good for you, accept the change.its not like you really have much choice in the matter,so complain away if you feel you must....

Human Smoke-Yes.
Human Subzero-Yes.
Cyber Subzero- Eh... ok. It was nice to see.
Cyber Smoke- F*ck.YES. Seriously, its the nostalgia factor here. Join team cyber smoke if you support him. I wanna do a revamped version of his "blow up the world" fatality". Why should it matter if he "doesn't fit in the story mode"?? Kenshi didn't show up till Deception! I'd check this out if I were you http://youtu.be/9GbUpJ32J_Q?t=1s
