Have you been an MK fan? through the high's and lows??? Be Honest

It's kinda confusing for me. I knew about Mortal Kombat since MKII because my uncle introduced it to me, but I didn't start playing it until MK4 came out in arcades. And I've been playing it ever since, so what would that make me?

A youngster?

I was a huge fan of mk1-mk3. When I played those games I played with a very competitive attitude and I always tried to improve my game.
When the 3d versions of the game came out I still played them but didn't have quite the same enthusiasm for them, I never tried to really get good at the 3d games. I was a big fan of the krypt and the other new modes they introduced, but not the characters they added. I pretty much played single player the whole time.

I have bought all Mortal Kombat Games from MK 1 up to MK vs DC Universe! And now the NEW 2011 Mortal Kombat! I even have The side games like Special Forces. And the Sub-Zero one on PS1. And Shaolin Monks. LOL!

To me the best MK game so far of them all has Been MK: Armageddon due to the 64 Characters and Kreate-A-Fighter. That game ROCKS!

Nuff Said!

Shoot I was an MK fan through it all. Nothing will keep me from the blood. aaaah I can remember when I was 2 and the first MK game came out and I beat it in like 10 mins no lie. My parents were quite shocked lol

Well, I wouldn't be here if I wasn't a fan though...

yeah just giving hard time. Seeing as you got 550 post on a fan made website. I consider you a fan. LoL. I thought you were kind of just foolin around yourself with the question.

I bought every game, played them (did not like every aspect of every game but they some innovations in them) and overall liked them. I even like the spin-offs MK Mythologies and Shaolin Monks. Special Forces was crap if I may say so.

The games I liked the most were MK3/UMK3/Trilogy - MK4 - MK2 - MK Deception

I stuck by Ed! He's my pal! :D

Haven't been an MK fan since 1995! I've actually never bought any MK games before, I used to play at the arcades or at my buddy's house when it came out for consoles (of course I preferred the arcade version because the home ports were always inferior back in those days). I tried Armageddon once and was really disappointed with all the recycled animations and missing moves from MK 1-3. I played MKvDC about a month ago. Graphics looked pretty good but the game just seemed unfinished.
MK9 will be the first MK I've ever purchased. I'm so hyped for this game I preordered the TE.

I definitely have. Seeing as I am only 21, Deadly Alliance came out in 2002 which is when I was 12 almost 13, the 3D games have spanned my teenage years. With that being the case, I soaked up each game and had a lot of fun playing them. I have always preferred MK1-MK4 the most, but I still liked MK:DA-MKvsDC. I own them all. I don't enjoy playing the 3D ones as much, but there was never a time where I wasn't a fan or claimed to have "given up" on the series.

I have played MK since I was 3, and it came to be a regular thing I followed almost daily since 2001(the lead up to MK:DA's release). So it's hard to remember a time before MK, and it'll be tough to imagine a time after it. Nothing it has done has ever made me stop wanting to be a fan, and beyond completely scrapping everything and making something completely different with different characters, I don't know what would ever shy me away.

MK's been my favourite franchise along with Half Life and Fallout ever since I played the first one as a kid =D Soldiered through the period of MK's history where the games were mediocre (MK:DA - MKvsDC) and now I'm just happy to get MK9 here are my lows and highs:

Low point - Being hyped for Armageddon and MCvsDC, being greatly let down by both games as they are both in the top 3 worst MK games for me.

High - Ever since MK2011 been announced to the game's release (can't freakin' wait!), Pulling off my first ever fatality - Scorpions Toasty, Beating Shang Tsung for the first time in MK1, Beating Shao Khan for the first time in MKSM, Beating Kintaro for the first time in MK2 (OMFG so many of my braincells died trying to beat this guy ahaha)

Always been and fan and owned different versions. Got the MK1 version, then MK2, then MK3 and UMK3. I loved Trilogy. They had UMK3 arcade at a Sports of all Sorts family fun center awhile back and I usd to play it all the time. But i guess they removed it cuz of the violence.

Anyway:
MK1 - Genesis
MK2 - Genesis/PS3
MK3 - Genesis
UMK3 - Genesis/DS/X360
MKT - PS1/N64
MK4 - PS1/N64
MKMSZ - N64/PS1
MKDA - GC
MKD - PS2/XBOX
MKA - PS2/WII
MKvsDC - 360
MK9 - 360

Yep. Played every game and kept playing till the next. Love 'em all for one reason or another. (Except Special Forces, but I'm sure you can forgive me for that.) I remember when Deadly Alliance and Deception came out and were actually considered good!

To be honest I think there isn't a lot of difference between fan A and fan B.

Starting with Deadly Alliance, the games became something entirely different. Don't say MK4, because MK4 still felt a lot like the original Mortal Kombat.

I remember buying Deception, and realizing something. That the games were not made for me anymore. That it was for a new generation, or those who were able to accept all of these changes. Sure Sub Zero and Scorpion looked the same, but I knew they actually were not the same guys I grew up with.

Most fans, not all, agree something went horribly wrong with Armageddon and MK Vs DC.

Now with the new Mortal Kombat I feel like we have met in the middle. The characters are not motion captured, but are in 3d. At the same time they're fighting in a 2D field.

I guess what I'm saying is that we're starting over guys. Fans of the newer games, fans of the old, and fans who accepted each and every game have something we can all share. A new beginning.

I've been a fan since the very beginning. I remember buying a copy of EGM and looking at screenshots for the home versions of MK and thinking it sure looks like the arcade, I hope it plays as well (which, of course, it didn't, but whatever).

Whether I have been into video games or not throughout the 20 years of MK, I have always followed the MK franchise. I even went to the MK4 road tour, remember when they put MK4 machines on tractor trailers and paraded them around the country letting people play them before the official release?

I bought MKDA and loved it, though I agree it was for a new generation. Even though I liked the game, I never quite got the timing of it and it was kind of more of a button masher for me. I have never really liked fighting games where you can't jump over your opponent, but it was MK, so I dealt with it. I really, REALLY loved Deception and I think that was as close to capturing the true MK feeling that the team has had since MKII, even though I still didn't "get" the engine, I still had a great time mashing buttons.

Like almost everybody else, I didn't care for Armageddon and my copy still probably has a few fighters that I never even bothered playing with once. I was fine with the fighting engine since I never really got the 3D mechanics anyway, but I found the kreate a fatality system both lazy, cumbersome, and unsatisfying. I could pretty much say the same thing about MK vs. DC, but I did at least play with that one a little bit more. I actually didn't hate that game. Even though the lack of true fatalities was horribly annoying, I thought it was kind of neat to play MK style fighting with other characters. I thought the MK team did a decent job making lemonade out of lemons, figuring someone in the marketing department struck a deal with DC and corporate Midway basically forced them to make the game. At least I hope that's what happened, or else Boon had a major brainfart. Maybe someday he'll write a book and we will get the full scoop on it.

I never got too into the side games. I remember renting MK Mythologies and laughing at how absolutely terrible it was. I don't remember much about it except for falling off cliffs a lot and horrible load times. The less said about Special Forces, the better. I did almost finish Shaolin Monks with a friend in co-op mode, but we both agreed it was a fairly average game at best, only made above average because it took place in the MK universe.

So I guess you could say I've been a huge MK fan since the very first game, but that doesn't mean I have liked every game they have made. MK, MKII, and Deception have been my favorites. That seems to put me in line with most of the old school fans here. The only difference is I would put UMK3 toward the bottom, maybe AT THE VERY BOTTOM of my list. A lot of people seem to like that game, but for me it was the ultimate disappointment as I was expecting a leap as awesome as MKII was from MK1.
