Has the Internet and Social Media killed the MK surprise factor?

I hate surprises and I'm a very anxious person, so spoilers, leaks and the internet are 3 things I very much love.

The people who spoil shit need to have yheir hands chopped off...ESPECIALLY pre-release.

This is why we have street dates. So nobody goes blabbing everything before everyone else. Something these little independent stores don't understand. They sell their 20 copies of the game early, SOMEBODY will make an entire video play through before the street date.

On the same token, people who have to wait don't have to watch the said videos. It's not the uploader's fault if their viewers lack self control.

The only thing I dont want spoiled is the story and the Krypt. Everything else I look at.

Speaking of secrets. Do we know what the reward is yet for maxing out all factions in Faction Wars?

Breaking street date is stealing. Either honor the street date or keep your hands off of it.

And by the way, XBL actually bans gamers who break street date (particularly those stupid enough to get caught). I don't know if PSN does so as well.

they most certainly do not. you think that microsoft gives 2 craps less if some guy gets a game a few days early? does microsoft maintain a list of every game reviewer and review copy sent out? negatory.

i've had every single madden game 2 weeks before the release date, dating all the way back to 2006. i've never had XBL say anything to me about it.

Not really. It's actually nice. You get all the info you need upon the release if you don't own the game yet / don't know how to trigger some things, yet you are not forced to look them from the internet. I prefer that over era where you never knew sure.

Although, I miss those times as well because of rumour about secret characters, cheats etc. that never existed in the first place.

Microsoft perm banned people who played Halo and Gears early because technically you are acessing things you arent allowed to.

And that is so well documented that Skylot could've googled that himself.

its not well documented. thats garbage as well.

i had both halo and gears of war (the 1st) a week early as well, my account is still around. maybe they ban people who stream it or leak it, but not for just playing the game, on your account before launch day.

edit:

i remember a court case that stated, games you purchase are personal property, and yours to do what you want with, as you please. this case also pertained to modifying in-game content (mods) maybe they can ban you from that games servers, but not from the XBL service itself.

I can only understand this from an Online stand point, only. I mean, who would you be playing against anyways? Not many.

But you paid for your game and if you're lucky enough to get it early, whose saying you CAN'T play what you paid and waited for? Personally, online would be the last thing on my mind when I first get the game anyways.

I think the Online section should be locked till release date if they don't want people playing early.

I watched all of RE5 on Justin tv a week before release and when I played it I was just as psyched maybe more waiting to get to those parts.

Yea but those bans were also in a big way due to pirating on 360 since Halo 4 had leaked a good 2 weeks before on the web.
