Guest character opinions

Doesn't need to be WB games though. Like with Kratos, they could make deals with other franchises.

With Kratos, he got a special fatality treatment since NRS was giving rules for Kratos in order to respect his character. With Freddy, they didn't have to worry about that. They can have Rain make him into a giant water balloon if they want and not worry about getting sued. I don't know how it can be with other video game characters.

I do agree that I want to see a video game character or comic book character this time. No more movie characters please. I would still be piss if they pick Mad Max as a guest.

I looked up Warner Brothers. The only games they own (that could function with guest characters) are F.E.A.R., the Witcher, and the arkham batman games. So it may end up being Geralt from the Witcher series. Anything else has a lot of red tape to go through. They have their guest character done, we just won't find out who it is til launch. (And we probably will see the rest of the roster at launch too. Considering how bad they are at dropping info this time.)

Going from what I've been told that WB games only has the US rights to Witcher 3 while Namco Bandai owns the rights overseas. WB Games could have NRS put Geralt as a guest fighter to promote Witcher 3 but I think things would have to be work out with CD Projekt RED. Witcher 3 comes out during Summer 2015 which be the same time as the DLC for MKX. It would make sense to promote both games by making him a guest DLC. I'm not sure how well known he is since most people will be like "Who the hell is he?!".

Do you know how franchises and console exclusives work? It has been stated many times there will not be console exclusives. All platforms will get the same character. There is too much legal trouble for NRS to poke through to get access to other video game characters that don't operate under the same roof. You are likely to see another movie character.

For example: it was easy for the Soul Calibur team to get Link in the GameCube version of SC2. The same with Kratos on the PS3 version of MK9.

He's not a Sony or MS property, though.
Maybe Freddy was a bad example, but Darth Vader and Yoda in Soulcalibur would be better examples.

Well, if you want to be petty and nitpick...

Yes, I do know how it works... But why does it have to be console exclusive if NRS makes a deal with another company to get their character to guest MKX? I'm not sure where you get that from.

An example could be that NRS makes a deal with Platinum Games about having Raiden from Metal Gear Rising to be a guest character in MKX. Neither Raiden nor MGR are exclusive to any console.

I really doubt Kojima would allow Raiden to get maimed and torn to shreds in an American fighting game. So add Konami and Kojima Productions to that list.

Kotal Kahn's voice is done by Phil LaMarr (Vamp), so that would be a hilarious nod to the franchise.
That said, I agree with you.
While Kojima gave us the option of letting you kill Raiden or putting him to sleep in MGS3, I seriously doubt that he'd let Raiden get gutted and torn up in MK.

*ahem* His name is Ivan Raidenovitch Raikov. (I joke)

But that's awesome that Vamp is Kotal Kahn in this game. I had no idea.

We already have a character named Raiden already. Having Raiden MGR would be confusing and funny at the same time. Johnny Cage in his VS mode intro would be like:

Johnny Cage: Having one guy named "Raiden" is bad enough

My mind is stuck as to who I think will be the guest. Platform exclusives are out of the question, so NRS would most likely look within the WB Family to avoid licensing problems... But the problem is, I can't think of a WB property that would fit into MK.

If NRS has to go out of the WB family to get a guest, then they would have to make sure that the source of the guest isn't tied with either Microsoft or Sony. As well as the fact that the source of the guest isn't in direct competition with WB's properties.

The variables are annoying.

Yeah.

When I first heard it, I was like "Wow, that's Vamp."
Vamp's voice has become unmistakable to me, over the years.
Then someone one Twitter asked the voice actor.

Even though it's spelled the same as MK Raiden, phonetically the MGS character is pronounced Ry-den.
The only way I could see it work would be if NRS went back to spelling MK Raiden's name as Rayden in the lifebar, but yeah, I didn't even think about the potential confusion in the lifebar for the 2 characters.

Guest characters are a special kind. I wouldn't mind if we didn't have one on launch day. Freddy was fun to play and I liked the inside joke in his Ladder ending but he was a stranger to MK's world.

All in all, he still was a better fit than Scorpion in Injustice. Good ol' Scorp has his moments in Injustice but this cheap "Where am I? How did I get here? No matter what, I'll kick your ass and burn your soul" intro of his quickly grew tiring for me. And more often than not I hate him in the Full House line-up. If I'm playing a DC Universe fighting game I want to play DC kharacters. If I want Scorpion, I'll start up MKKE.

I know they are commercially succesful but I don't think the core fans need them badly. So I really hope that NRS will include these guests as DLC and we can choose to ignore them if we like.

Guest fighters are likely to be DLC only at this point. If people don't like them then don't buy them. I also didn't mind Scorpion in Injustice since it did remind when Akuma was a guest fighter in the X-Men arcade fighting game. With Scorpion, they pick someone that they can use for free without paying another company for a character.
