The point is not meaningless. You're showing how every character is viable. If this was not expressed, might as well make Injustice an FPS where everyone is Superman and you shoot laser beams at each other until someone wins. Or Injustice would basically be a huge failure like UMvC3 is, because everyone jumps on the Top-Tier train, and this cannot even be argued because it's plain obvious when it comes to UMvC3.
And there are tier whores out there. You can't tell who, but there are. If you join a lobby, and 5 people keep picking Superman, chances are at least one of them is a tier whore. If you like Superman as a character that's fine. I like Wesker in MvC3 because he's Wesker, not a broken character.
There are those who want to win.
And those who want respect.
I'm not playing at EVO. I'm playing online with a bunch of dudes over Xbox Live. I'll take the respect, and the satisfaction of beating a Top-Tier character which is why Pheonix Wright is my main in UMvC3, and Stryker is my main in MK.
Would I use Wright if I was in a tournament? Hell yes I would. Would it be a smart choice? Of course not.
But like I said, it's just playing online. Obviously, the people TwinSnakes faced were tier whores. If you beat me in MK9 after I use Kano, then I suddenly switch to Kabal or Kung Lao, it's obvious I'm leaning towards higher tiered characters.
Edit:
If you are a tier whore, and not a fan of the characters, you are lame in my book.
But of course those players don't care what others think, because they want the satisfaction of winning with a herp-a-derp character, unless they're actually putting some thought and skill into then. Then it's MILDLY acceptable, in my opinion. Otherwise, piss off. It's why high-level MK9 isn't fun to watch.
