Ever met someone who is determined/thinks he is right, while he is absolutely wrong??

I see this in forum posts all the time. I've even had a back and forth with people who are clearly/for the most part wrong, but persist in their futile beliefs.

What makes them do it? Is it being defensive? Is it conviction? Proving a point despite being on the wrong end?

It happens in real life too, where both parties insist they are right. It's one of the biggest reasons why people don't get along and even cut communication. Admitting that one can be wrong can take a blow on their pride, thus some people choose to fight on rather than putting the other side of the argument into consideration.

Pride. Even if it's for something as useless as an argument on the internet. I know I hate apologizing. So I refuse to be wrong.
Keep your back to the corner and pray they eventually sway into a haymaker.

Right and wrong is not the same for everyone, and you can only judge by your standarts. I have met many people still voting for capitalistic parties, believeing that there is no other option. For me they are completly wrong, for them I am completly wrong.
Now for dissagrements like "Scorpion is better than Sub Zero" at some point you have to agree to disagree.

While someone believes in something and just because you don't, doesn't make it true. Subjectivity, folks

Sure, but the existence of some subjective beliefs doesn't make every belief equally plausible or valid.

Oh man, yes, mostly from Christians <.<

I mean, I am not saying they are wrong, no one knows the truth until you die, but, we all have our beliefs, and, as an atheist, I happen to believe there is no god or heaven or any of that stuff, yet, it is so hard for people who believe in that stuff to accept that OMG SOMEONE HAS A DIFFERENT VIEW.

As an agonist Christian (if that makes sense) I can understand where other people come from.

I believe there is a God I just can't get down with this book and or preacher who probably goes home and jerks it to pornhub.

I don't get it either. I mean come on evolution has been pretty-much proven to the extent of we're only missing a few links. Yet you don't see scientist killing people who don't believe in that theory. religion is perfectly fine but why does every damn bible thumping preacherman hate on non-believers? My guess is that most don't understand where either side is coming from so needless fighting and judging ensues.

Evolution has been proven. Only creationists and other scientific illiterates think evolution is false. They only take issue with evolutionary theory (and not other theories like gravity, atomic theory, etc.) because it obviously conflicts with their beliefs.

Preachers bash non-believers because we are the ones who plant the seeds of doubt into their flock. If one of their flock dies (stops attending church), they have less people to fill the coffers on Sunday, which effects their pocketbook.

And I understand exactly where the other side is coming from. I don't care if people believe in talking snakes, talking burning bushes, that the entire world was flooded and the other fantastic stuff in the Bible that I don't believe in. I can't make anyone believe that shit is nonsense, no matter how little sense it makes to me. My problem with creationists is that they're trying to force their beliefs into public science classes when it's not science, and from my experience, that's what most atheists and other evolution proponents are about. We're not going into churches telling people that the Bible is BS. We're not out trying to ban churches or trying to ban faith-based beliefs. THAT is the difference.

Notice how I said most not all. I get what you're saying though and I'm not for either side I just think it's pointless to argue a point when neither side will bend to the other.
