Ed Boon: "Guest characters very likely"

DLC guests take up slots that can be used for other MK characters, thats simply true, theres well over 60 of them and most likely it seems that less than 20 are going to be in this game, a guest character being chosen takes away other characters chances of being DLC.

Them being in the game to begin with, however, does not. At this point, its fairly obvious that they probably have everyone who'll be on the roster decided, if they were included from the get-go, like Kratos, it would be extra. Rain not being in MK9 from the start is, honestly, because he was a joke character during that era, his appearance and name are just a joke referencing Prince.

Oh, and Scarlet was in the story mode, she made a cameo.

It doesnt matter if a guest character is included or not in the default launch-day roster, the rest of the roster was already going to be like that with or without the guest character, its not taking up a slot for another, you just seem to think that because he's physically taking up a slot.

-edit-

Not knocking Rain, but im just sayin it like it is. Plus, he was only in Trilogy, if i remember right, so he was one of three that didnt make it in (until DLC)

I honestly don't mind if one DLC character is a guest. It's not like I need to put down $5.00 for it if I don't want it. Whoever it is, if I like them I might get them, if not, then Netherrealm and Warner Brothers won't get five extra dollars from me.

It's tiresome to see how some people act like it takes away a spot of another character. I feel like those guys don't realize that the list of characters has already been created long before any kind of announcement to the public. DLC obviously has been chosen as well. Anyone who still thinks that it takes away a spot for a character who "deserves it more" or "it takes time away to create other characters" needs to get their head out of whatever hole it's stuck in and realize that these characters have already been chosen for the roster.

This.
Thank you, Kitty_55.
IMO, mandatory compatibility packs hurt no one and help everyone, and solve all these issues.
People get the DLC that they want and don't get the ones that they don't want, and nobody gets screwed out of using those characters online.
And before anyone counters with the bullshit "Not everyone is online" counter argument, you NEED PS+ on PS4 and Gold on X1 to play online on the new consoles, so people obviously have online access.

Agreed.
Main roster and DLC characters have been pre-chosen in MK because they have to work on those characters, but people act as if NRS is waiting on the fans to put them in.
NRS choosing to leave Rain out was likely pre-planned, just as it was planned that Skarlet, Rain, Kenshi & Freddy would be saved for DLC to maximize their profits.
NRS likely has a basic mixture of what the they want for the main roster & DLC and what want fans want for the main roster & DLC, and the characters are probably pre-chosen so that they have more time to work on them.

Plus, he was only in Trilogy, if i remember right,

Nope.
He was also in UMK3 on Sega Genesis.
I can fire it up and take a screenshot, if you'd like.

Hm. Odd, thought it was just trilogy.

But in any case, he's still one of 3 characters who didnt make it in who were around in that time period in the games, and technically was a joke character.

Ermac, Reptile and Smoke also started off in the series as unplayable joke characters / rumors, and they made it, so I fail to see how any of that matters.

At least Reptile and Smoke were actually in the proper game, and were fightable under certain conditions.

Rain was a fake, created to scam us of our quarters.

Ermac started off as an even bigger scam than Rain. Actually, he was more than just a scam. He was originally a hoax; he wasn't in the game at all. I believe it was EGM magazine that started that hoax.

Perfect post of what I've been saying for weeks now.
Also the only post that Araknyd ignored.

Shocking. Isn't it?

I didn't ignore it.
I read it.
It's the same repetitive shit that you and I have been debating, and I don't feel like debating that again.

If the guest fighter takes the DLC spot then they can be in a sequel. It's better to save some characters for a sequel. People wanted Tanya, Fujin and Havik for MK9 when they are better for another game. I hope MKX will have six DLC characters similar what Injustic did. It can be like this:

DLC #1 - Based on a rumor character or a character made for another game. Someone like Belokk or Kathy Long (she was a character cut from MK2) can work.
DLC #2 A fan favorite from Ed Boon
DLC #3 A major popular request
DLC #4 Guest character
DLC #5 A popular female character
DLC #6 Another popular request character

Well ive posted before the Predator & Spawn my top picks.

But what do you think about
The Shredder himself, he looks like he'd fit in. He's got a nasty side.
Oroki Saki.jpg
Sabretooth, he is vicious and has killed numerous humans & mutants. Another good fit in! (I know, NO though)
Victor_Creed aka Sabretooth.JPG
Bloodrayne, could replace Nitara if she doesn't make the rost...just say'n and also it be nice to have a female on the DLC
BloodRayne.jpg

Shredder is from TMNT and is a TMNT franchise. The company who owns the rights to the franchise would never allow it. I doubt we will see any Marvel characters going by license issues. Also has Bloodrayne been in anything new lately other then the movie from several years ago.

Bloodrayne carries the stigma of Uwe Boll.

Shredder has already been in MK before. It's called Sub-Zero's primary costume in Deception.

Marvel is NEVER coming anywhere near MK. Marvel's primary competition in the comic market is a sister company to NRS. On top of that, Marvel is owned by Disney. Therefore, if ANY guest characters are coming from comics, it's DC or nothing.

Spawn would be possible given that Image Comics is hardly a major competition company and is not own by any major movie studio. Spawn has a history with Warner Bros. before.

I never found the appeal for Spawn after seeing the movie. It left a really horrid impression that I don't want going near Mortal Kombat.

Can't really give a shout out to who I'd want for a guest, mainly because I'm more focused on the main roster than DLC for the moment. And I really wouldn't know who would be a good fit anyways.

So?
Rain was playable in UMK3 on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and the SNES, so it more than made up for it when I got Rain on the home consoles.

UMK3 was an arcade game. The arcade version is the definitive version. The home ports are irrelevant to anything. Rain is irrelevant. Rain doesn't belong in MKX or any other MK game.

The arcade version of a game is always the pure version of it.

Rain was a scam in the pure version of UMK3, therefore, he was a scam in UMK3.

In unCAGEDgamez's newest video, he points out that he doubts there will be a horror movie character since it would be too predictable. I do agree since Jason, Michael or Pinhead won't be a big surprise since most people knew it would be coming since we got Freddy in MK9.
