Ed Boon Gamespot interview: Tremor in because of fans demand

I thought I remembered seeing a bunch of people asking for her when the DLC was coming out. Her and cyber smoke mostly. I was on the Netherrealm Forum then though so it might have just been that site. Or one guy with a bunch of accounts...

For MK9:
The people rioting for her seemed to be isolated to the few of them here.
On Twitter, a Tanya request was very rare.
She was not really requested as Rain, Cyber-Smoke, Kenshi and Fujin were in MK9.
Those 4 characters practically flooded Boon's Twitter with "Please bring ___________ in as DLC."

For MKX:
I'm happy for Tanya fans that got her as DLC, but at the same time her inclusion in MKX as DLC came off as a surprise to me, given that she didn't get nearly half the amount of requests to be in that Tremor, Fujin and Rain have been getting for MKX.
 
True. Yeah you're probably right, I honestly don't remember I'm just going off of vague memories.
But yeah I was never really a fan. I'd rather see someone else in this pack but not someone from MK9 (as much as I do like Rain, Smoke, etc.)

Fans wanting Fujin in since MK9 makes me think (or at least hope) that he's the unlockable character after beating story mode.
It doesn't make sense to me, otherwise (no offense to anyone here), that Tanya would be in over Fujin as DLC.

The popularity / favorability of the MK4 characters among the fans always seemed to be:
Quan Chi> Fujin> Reiko> Tanya> Shinnok> Kai> Jarek.

I really believe he is an unlockable. Reasons:
1)He would be dlc in MK9,but they changed that at the last minute
2)His design is awesome and new
3)People that want fujin(including myself) are too many too ignore. It would be strange to include Shinnok and Tanya, yet exclude Fujin from the roster(IMO)

After this game, I really think Shinnok will become a really famous character. From what I've seen they did a really good job with him in this game
 
I'm pretty sure Jason and Predator where added due to fan request. There's no new Predator movie coming out soon (only in talks) and the next Friday the 13th movie is not out until next May unless it gets push back again. I think those two got big request on Ed's twitter and people wanted Jason after Freddy was added in MK9.

I was surprised too. I think NRS wanted to have a female in the pack to also please the "not enough females!" crowd (and they are a lot from what I've seen) so she was competing with the likes of Li Mei and Frost for that spot, instead of Fujin and Rain for example. I like Tanya so it's not a problem for me but I want Fujin badly in this game, so I hope he is released after the Kombat Pack (still a tiny bit of hope of him being unlockable too).
 
I tried posting earlier, unfortunately I was having some technical issues.

To be completely honest, and I know I might receive some hate, I don't get why Tremor is special. I really don't. I have had plenty of fans of his explain to me why he deserves to be in fighting games and such, however, their reasonings can also be said towards the other adventure debuting characters. I see Tasia having more of a possibility to be in this game based on her comic appearance alone, whereas Tremor has yet to show his face in a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g... (Excluding his minor appearance in a challenge tower for the PS vita)
I know a handful of characters that could easily get a huge amount of fans to do the same exact thing they've done for Tremor and I'm sure the developers could do a thing or two about it.

Boon really didn't answer my question as to why Tremor got the lucky end of the stick. Forgive me if I sound "salty" on this, I've admitted in the past that I am not a fan of this character at all. However, I'm always up in giving a character a chance to win me over, so if I see a gameplay on him in the future and I do enjoy what I see, of course I will cave in and give Netherrealm more of my money. But for right now, I am not a fan.

Because most of his fans are complete a-holes. just look at mk10news on Twitter. He harrassed Boon for months about Tremor and brought a petition for him EVERYWHERE he posted

Jumping the gun a bit. Who's to say Fujin isn't playable? We still get an as yet unknown character as a story mode reward. Tremor isn't a dumb choice when you consider fan demand. Although I don't get why such a minor character gets so much love (why doesn't the Earth God get the same? Tis a mystery.) its a better choice than some. Mavado or Kobra as DLC *shudder*?

Isn't fan demand = DLC character old news though? Didn't this happen exactly the same way with Rain 4 years ago?

I have more hopes for seeing Fujin as the story mode unlockable character, after seeing the Tarkatan arm on Erron Black's variation.

That said, though, if Fujin isn't the unlockable character in MKX story mode, then my chances for seeing him as DLC are even lower, for the simple fact that NRS also spoke of "more DLC" for MK9, and nothing happened past Freddy.

There's nothing to be a fan of... or an anti-fan of, for that matter. What people are fans of is the potential that such a character has. He has earth-based moves? Awesome, nobody has earth-based moves! He's a Black Dragon? Awesome, the story needs more Black Dragons! He's a scary grappler? Awesome, we could use more scary grapplers.

This exactly describes why I've wanted to see him in an MK game, for so long.
