Cyrax X-Ray, almost useless?

Combo wise his x-ray move is practically useless. The most he can get from an x-ray combo (midscreen) is something around 54% damage. I honestly dont think its worth using , when you can get 60% + damage when only using 2 enhanced moves in a combo. I guess what im saying is, it doesnt make sense to use 3 bars of meter for a less damaging combo, when you can use 2 bars of meter, do more damage and still have a bar of meter at your disposal.

Dont get me wrong, i know his x-ray is good for getting out of tricky situations, but i think thats about all its good for.

I just started testing Cyrax out and agree with you from what I've experienced so far. I do lile the idea of an anti-air x-ray though.

What combo does 60% though? Haven't done too much research yet so sorry of it's posted somewhere else (didnt see it in the stickied combo thread).

Not sure on what notations i should use, so ill just use the ones i know..

Jump punch, 3,3~Ex bomb, mid bomb, d/f+2, B+2, 3~Ex bomb, bb+3, teleport, 3,3~qc3, throw.... does 59% damage with relative ease.

The combo only uses 2 bars of meter. This is just an example, there are others too.. You can also add another enhanced move in the combo for even more damage, but i personaly think its better to always have atleast 1 bar of meter at your disposal. for instance if i had a full meter, id use 2 bars in a combo. If i had 2 bars of meter, id only use 1 bar of meter in a combo and so forth. Unless of course i know that a 3 bar combo would kill my opponent with his remaining damage, id always make sure to keep atleast 1 bar..

Ohh Tony.. I love you.

From a damage % you have a point. But I find it's that way with many characters. Even if someone's X-ray combo does 5-10% more, I'd still rather save the meter for either a breaker or 3 "1 meter" combos. Often the extra damage from using 1 enhanced special in 3 different combos will add up to more than what the X-ray added in its respective combo.

Also, if the X-ray has tricky timing in your combo, there is the risk of missing the X-ray with certain characters as they're not all combo friendly. You just blew your entire load with nothing to show for it. Messing up one enhanced move, not as big of a deal.

As it relates to Cyrax, I agree to save his meter for sticky bombs. They're one of the best enhanced moves in the game.

Every xray is useful in some way, you just have to know when is the right time to implement it in your combo/ juggle. Try and do the xray after a juggle. Do a juggle, dash forward and do the xray or do the juggle and wait for the opponent to come down and pull the trigger at the appropriate moment

exactly! Infact the only time i can see where his xray might be usefull is when your getting bullrushed in the corner, other then that its best to save your meter for combos.

So? I've only seen Kabal get 45% at most with x-ray. And that's a corner combo. He generally will only get 37-40% x-ray midscreen combos.

So some characters have it worse then Cyrax. :P

Im not saying 54% is bad, far from it. Any combo over 50% is pretty good, even 40%. point is, why waste 3 bars of meter on a 54% combo, when you can do a 60% combo with only 2 bars of meter. Cyrax can do 60% pluss combos using only 2 bars of meter, thus making his xray combo wastefull.

LOL...Cyrax has one of the best XRays in the game. The set ups for it are endless haha

It's TWO buttons, not a long combo that requires timing/memorization. I think you're goin to find less x-ray usage from higher level players and more from lower, it's meant as a balancing factor.

Heaven forbid you can ONLY do 54% damage from his X-Ray move.

His X-Ray is fine. You can either use it as an anti air or trap someone in a net then get up close and use it.

Aside from certain situations I try to stay away from using X-rays all together. Meter management is so important in this game. It definitely varies from character to character but I'd take breaker+1 enhanced move over X-ray most of the time.

Not all X-Rays can be used in a combo. Look at Johnny Cage's. It's to be used exclusively as a counter attack, which at higher difficulty levels makes it almost useless since the AI immediately reacts defensively to it. It's probably more effective against another person.

Cyrax X-Ray is fantastic...perfect anti-air. Hit Back+2 (launcher) then follow up with that? Get 'em every time.

I never combo into an X-Ray with any character I main. It's pointless due to damage scaling.

However, if I see an opportunity to hit an x-ray and my opponent could hit a breaker, I will do it. It's one hit for guaranteed damage over 33% and a chance to continue my offense. Of course, if I feel like I am going to lose the round, I won't do it.

I agree thats its great for anti air, but if your going to use anyone of his combo starters to set it up its pointless. You can do more damage using 2 bars of meter in a combo then you can from using 3 bars in an xray combo..

Again, why waste 3 bars of meter doing an xray combo from b+2, when you can do a combo that only uses 2 bars of meter and does more damage?
