Comp. packs mandatory now?

props to Nomad for typing out his opinion eloquently and stating it like an adult. Unfortunately many others have tried to state a similar opinion but just came off as children/cry babies. +respect nomad.
I honestly don't care if you play Freddy or Not. There has just been so much like teenage level QQ'ing in this thread. That's is what is really worth getting upset about.

Sorry, may be a dumb question, but can you explain to me why he SHOULD be in the game?
Oh, and I can't help but say what I think about all that Freddy and comp. packs thingy :
Pretty much a strange issue for most of us :
- until Freddy, the comp. packs are not mandatory, but everyone asked for them to be so...
- now Freddy has come and a lot of those that asked for mandatory comp. packs are *****ing about them...
Personally, I'm not happy about Freddy. NRS had the opportunity to make an entirely new character, something badass that would have make ALL (or at least close to all) MK players happy. But they decided to go with a guest character, and let's be honest, it's the first time I saw that much of a reaction here (and there's been quite a lot!).
I understand completely the need for NRS to do a guest character DLC like Freddy : great marketing campaign, more DLC sales, more money, and when we see all the developpers that closed down these lath months, I can guess they really need the money. And we want them to keep going on so there's more DLC and MK10 after that.
But making the comp. packs mandatory when Freddy arrives is a decision that makes my teeth grind... I mean, it's pretty obvious that they're doing it just because of the massive negative response to his announcement (I know at least half of the MK player are happy to have him, must those who are against, and some of them a really big fans of the franchise, are really worked up about this). They're making him mandatory so that everyone who thinks about downloading him doesn't have any hesitation. That'll make even more money. We can't really criticize this kind of money-making decision, but it's a deception for those who call themselves "hardcore fans" because they weren't heard before when Skarlet, Kenshi and Rain's comp. packs came out, but now that Freddy (which they don't want) suddenly they have to play against him sometimes. That's forcing some players to fight Freddy, although those players couldn't fight as Skarlet, Kenshi or Rain from time to time because of their opponent's lack of comp. pack... seems unfair.
Oh, and Freddy's story isn't good, come on, let's face it, it seems stretched. I think we'll all relax if we accept that Freddy's not a addition to the MKverse, but only a "bonus DLC" to have fun sometimes... We all know we won't be seeing him too often 1 or 2 weeks after his release... look at how much Kratos there is online... not that much, right?

Now that NRS is doing all it can to shove Freddy down our throats, there are only three things the MK enthusiasts can do:
1. Throw MK9 into the trash
2. Don't connect your PS3/360 to the internet when playing MK
3. RQ every time someone attempts to use Freddy
For now, I'll do 3.

Ok, I've been absent from these forums since the night Freddy got announced, but I see this kind of reactions still go on...
Come on, we're not children (MK being 18+, I just assume here)... I for myself am very disappointed with Freddy as 4th DLC, but that doesn't mean I have to annoy or insult anyone wanting to play with Freddy. And we all should try to understand NRS and WB's decision : Freddy is great marketing, but a new character, or someone like Tremor or Tanya, is not. Hell, even Cyber-Smoke would not sell like Freddy will... I mean, for most of the new generation of gamer, old MK games don't mean anything and they have a hard time understanding why we so much want old chars being revisited the way they have in MK9. Let's face that most of MK players are new to the franchise, and see it as a gory fighting game that is not taking itself seriously... so Freddy is ok with them.
I hate to say that, but fans do not own the franchise, and I assume that MK sales are mostly coming not from "hardcore fans", but from casual players new to the franchise... So let's live with it and please do stop this "Rage Quit" thing... Accept the difference between opinions and face the consequences of a modern-day game franchise : you can't control it! The only thing you could do that would make sense is to sell your game because you do not like the way the franchise has taken... but that would seem rash to me to sell a game you like (and a pretty good one!) just because the developpers and the producers have taken a money-based marketing decision.
I for myself, will be glad to have some fun with Freddy from time to time, even if I'm really disppointed by its presence in MK at a time when NRS could really have deepened and extended the MKverse. (oh... and my girlfriend is psyched with Freddy coming, which is great because now I'll be able beat the crap out of Freddy AND win against my GF at the same time, thus letting out all the rage that is me! Yeah, I know, life is made of pretty simple things when you think of it!

I agree with you totally... that's why I'm disappointed...
But on the other hand you can't really think that a developper can live out of integrity only?? I mean, if we were to save NRS from bankruptcy, how much do you think would come out of the "MK hardcore fans" pockets? So from time to time, even a developper as dedicated as NRS (I hope everyone accepts that MK9 is a great hommage to the MK franchise, and a game full of love and dedication) has to be a little bit more "materialist"... a shame, but not NRS shame, only the whole modern society's shame...

Don't say that, he's got a point... it's like if you were playing a Star Wars game and then suddenly Superman would come out of nowhere! Or learning that they included Aliens and Predators to Skyrim! But still, the MK franchise is not as big as Star Wars, or not as immersion-based as The Elder Scrolls, and it needs publicity, so it's understandable... to a point. I just hope it won't be a new trend and that we won't get too much of these guest characters (in MK9 or MK10), but the way they're marketing this makes me doubt about that...

I am an MK enthusiast since the day MK1 was released and I ask you this...
-Did you throw Call of Duty in the trash too, cuz you had to download memory consuming updates for the map packs they released?... (you prolly hated those too)

You know what that is? Greed. Pure, Raw, Greed. You want Freddy out of MK so bad that you are willing to either:
Stop others from using him by not getting the pack (which is a real dick move) And you are practically depraving people of their spent cash whether they got the Season pass or got Freddy individually.
OR you will give the player the win by rage quitting when someone wants to go a Freddy, stopping them from getting better at the character online.
