Boon confirms traditional stages in Injustice

"I think anytime you do something as, I guess, bold or out of the box as that, you're going to have people that question it," Boon said. "Especially, how does that come into play in a tournament situation? If you play in the Batcave, you have a different strategy than if you play in the Fortress of Solitude. My guess is we will certainly offer at least one stage that is traditional, because you never know what's going to be banned in tournaments. We're definitely aware of the EVO guys and we're going to put things in the game to accommodate them with a more stripped down version."

I'm happy :)

In a way this has me concerned that tournament players may reduce play to just play on the regular stages it's not a bad thing in a sense but it may keep players from discovering the possibly limitless potential within the multi-tired levels

In a way the fgc needs a unique game like injustice since strategy can be applied through the utilization of arenas but still traditional stages may help this game draw in more players to keep the game alive within the small community

Well Byrd, what NRS is doing now is perfect, there couldn't be a better compromise than this

You'll still have conventional stages for the tourney players without significantly hindering the game's ambition and uniqueness as a whole

This is why I hate alot of competative game players; they can't play the game the way it was meant, but have to make things off limit. Look at MLG with Halo: They took everything out until it was seriously 4 guns and two game modes....

Its just being safe. You never know what can be taken advantage of, what can cause infinites or unblockable set ups.

Also how is this a bad thing? Not every stage is going to be stripped down, Boon just says at least one is going to be traditional.

I don't play competitively, but I simply can't understand why tourney players want to turn every game the same. Traditional levels, only a few basic guns/items, only some characters. It's like they want to take away everything added to the games in the last 10 years.

this sounds like good news. does he mean also without the throwing cars and stuff? or just no punching them through buildings?

I do play competitively, and the answer is simple. It's pacing, and as bbblp said, the possibility of glitches infinitesimal etc. Mk9 is littered with resets, block infinitesimal, glitches, random advantage etc. And it ONLY deals with characters. Now throw in stages with different properties.

Though wouldn't it be better for long game health if the tourney scene found the infinites within the stage abilities?

Also, do you guys play Skullgirls? No infinites in that game ever.

Because they don't want to play a broken game? How can you not see that?

See this is the biggest misconception with this news, the intractable stages are NOT banned. NRS is making a traditional stage in the emergency event that the interaction is too powerful, too exploitable or too problematic. Not a thing is banned, this is just for worst case scenario.

Thank god, this game might just turn playable now.

The interaction made it unplayable? Get on with that shit, its innovative and fresh. I support the idea of the interaction, but I support the inclusion of traditional stages even more.

I'd imagine both. Like an MK9 stage where the environment does nothing too or for you.

My honest opinion about Interactive stages:

I don't like them, but at the same time I don't mind them being in the game. It adds more depth to the game and now you have character and stage match ups to think about now.

The things I don't like about them are that some of them kinda guarantee you damage and that's hella lame, The way power characters can slam cars on top of you, and I doubt you can back dash fast enough to escape it if you're too close.

But the rolling barrels and bombs you can throw are fine, you can always jump over the barrels and you can probably duck the bombs being thrown similar to ducking projectiles in MK9..

^ Hopefully it isn't as fast in the final product as it is in the demo. Remember how OP Sub-Zero's original X-ray looked?

Because they don't want to play a broken game? How can you not see that?

Because to me they are features of the game. Stage having an odd glitch that both players can use, or a map having an rocket launcher anyone can pick up are both fair and even factors. There will usually be patches for the worst exploits.

But whatever makes anyone happy.

Whatever.

If shit is OP, NRS should fix it and tourney hoes should play with the interactive stages. It's what sets Injustice away from the crowd. It'll also make the matches much more hype, attracting others to the scene.

And if stiffs want to complain, they can GTFO and go play SSF4 or something.

If there was a cheap exploit it wouldn't be banned unless it was extreme. But if it was something like being able to knock someone through a portal and infinitely juggle them then that stage would be banned. No big deal, but in the unlikely event that EVERY stage had something that heinously game breaking then the traditional stage would have to become mandatory.

There is also the unlikely event that the general consensus is that the interaction is not fun at all and only hinders the matches, in that event the traditional stage would come into play.

My fear is that this game becomes the next SFxT. It has extremely cheap tactics, but not too cheap so they aren't ban-able. So much so that no one wants to watch it and it falls off of the major streams.
