Artificial Intellegence (AI) in MK9

I've been reading and watching a ton about MK9 over the past couple of months and interestingly enough, I never came across how the AI will be in MK9. I've played pretty much all the MK games that ever came out and none had really good AI in my opinion. UMK3, of course, had terrible AI and made me frustrated like no fighting game has ever done. The newer MKs (DA, D, Arm) had average AI. I'm hoping NRS is making it a priority to concentrate on improving the AI over the previous games. I know that playing against a human is the best (and believe me, I'll be playing this game mostly online), but sometimes I just feel like playing against the computer and the MK games haven't been the best at that. Does anybody know about the AI in MK9? Maybe I've missed some info. I think making more intelligent AI will just add more greatness to this already great looking game. :)

It just cannot be cheap. No spamming of sweeps or uppercuts. Give them some skillz.

Exactly. MK3 - MK Trilogy had that cheap AI that reacts to what your pressing. When you jump, run, attack with a special move, etc. it immediately reacts to that and counters it, which is unrealistic and not possible when playing against a human. Considering that the last 2D MK was MK Trilogy, I'm very excited to finally play a 2D MK game that actually has smart AI without the cheapness and spamming.

This is the one thing that worries me the most about MK9. MK2 to Trilogy had awful AI. Trilogy was as tough on very easy as it was on very hard after one or two fights. Also the things the AI could do that it was impossible for a human player to, like repeatedly throwing you through one of your sweeps or uppercuts. Frustrating as hell. Although there's hope yet, seeing as this problem was solved from MK4. I just pray the AI doesn't revert back to that earlier state. :(

I don't think the MK2 AI was as bad as MK3-Trilogy. Sure, there were some cheap moves like throwing and jump kicking, but nowhere near the insane difficulty of MK3-Trilogy (think Jade!). Like Axe said after the first two matches, even on easy, the AI spams and reacts to every movement you make. I have a good feeling though that NRS will make the AI better than any previous MK game. The technology is there (as well as the funds from Warner) to make every facet of this game great including the AI.

ya, and no grab spamming like in mk2, tht pissed me off when playing the arcade mode

omg ~ that crap is ridiculous on the flip side, I think MK v. DC is too easy. Hopefully the AI will be more like another human player then like anything else, like a predefined something or other.

I remember in MK2 how when you would first start a match, the AI (say Kitana) would throw her fans at you multiple times at the beginning of a match. It's happened a countless number of times to me, with the worst example being Kung Lao throwing 8 hats at me before we could really start the match. I also hated how the AI would react to almost every attack you attempted, like Baraka would throw me almost every time I tried a sweeping kick or an uppercut.

Hopefully this won't be the case with MK9.

Honestly, my first instinct whenever I start a match in MK2 is to jump kick right off the bat because I know my enemy is going to pull off a special move. Projectile special moves always get blocked whenever you use them and whenever you get close, you either get spammed with punches, sweeps, throws, etc. And OMG, Liu Kang... As much as I love the dude hes the biggest pain in the ass to fight. I dont need to explain why as most of you probably know.

finally, a thread to adress our concerns. To all the "Kahn should be cheap" i dont agree with you if you want him to repeatedly charge and punch you to death. It took me 20 tries to beat him on MK2. I found Blaze ok, but easy if I spammed my KAF's weapon attacks. Dark Kahn, made up for MKVSDC's laughable AI for providing me with a challenging but enjoyable match. I guess the definition of broken AI and cheapness depends on your skill level.

MK trilogy has the cheapest most broken AI For starters there's a invisable bar that separates you from them so there's no way of getting close but on the flip side rain could win every match by just spamming his mind control orb because the AI was to stupid to block it!! I also used Baraka's blade spinner to destroy any AI that needed to be put in it's place

It wouldn't be Klassic MK without cheapass AI. Anyways you guys should get some friends to play with, fighting the computer is no way to enjoy a fighting game!

I'd go with Dark Kahn difficulty for the final boss, not excruciatingly hard but definitely a challenge and you really had to work for it.
