Final thoughts on MKX?

At this point, I'd rather NRS said that after Kombat Pack 2, MKX will be done, and then they started making the next MK game.

New story, a roster where those who weren't in MKX would have a chance to appear on, better netcode...
MKX was good, imo, but it left alot to be desired in the latter two, imo. I like most of the newly introduced characters and I thought the story and gameplay were pretty good, but the roster overall was somewhat disappointing, especially the DLC characters. I personally loved Tanya's inclusion (she's my main in the game), but the rest I don't care for at all.

I'd rather wait a few years for the next MK game and have them continue the story, than having Kombat Packs full of unwanted characters (again, my personal opinion). Even if the next game is MKX-2, as in basically the same, but with a fixed netcode and a better roster, because the gameplay itself is rather enjoyable, imo. And though I supported the idea of NRS just keep adding to MKX, more characters/Kombat Packs and maybe a Story Pack where they continued the story... KP2 has rather made me feel let down and I see no reason for them to continue adding to the game.

What do you guys think?
Would you rather have NRS expand the lifespan of MKX by having them add new stuff/more packs etc. to it?
Or that they left MKX for what it is now after KP2 and then move on to the next game project?
And what were your overall experience of MKX?

I think they should just stop. There was absolutely no reason for Kombat Pack 2 except as a cash grab imo. Atleast we'll be getting Injustice 2 in 2017.

My thoughts on MKX is that I absolutely Loved the Roster pre-Kombat Pack 1. The only character I don't like post-KP1 was Predator. As much as I was against the inclusion of Jax, Jason, Kenshi, Lui Kang, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, and Sonya I really loved playing as them all equally.

The story for me was like how I felt watching MK Legacy 2. The first half was perfect, but the second half felt like watching the second half of the Street Fighter Movie. I was hoping the Jacqui and Sonya Chapter would've been more. The Story would've been way better if we just had 12 chapters consisting of the 4 Main Cast members with each chapter being for 1 variation. It had too many side-plots and too much focus on the adults to say the game was suppose to be about the next generation.

The Microtransactions...skip.

The Gameplay...no questions asked, it's the best.

Overall, from a gameplay perspective this is the best Mortal Kombat game so far. This is the exact same feeling I had with MGSV Phantom Pain. Which means from a Story and character driven perspective, MK9 reigns supreme (just as it is with MGS1).

I don't know what to think anymore. I think NRS needs to make something else that's not a fighting game and let mortal kombat take a break. MKX is a mess in terms of story,characters online and gameplay IMO but I still play it despite this. Don't get me wrong the game is a fun mess but it's becoming more obvious that WB rushed this game out the door and forced NRS to hamfist characters that make no sense in mk just so they get casuals to buy it . I've never seen a fighting game divide a community like MKX has done since mk vs dc. I don't think injustice 2 is the answer. They need to make something completely different and unexpected but sadly WB won't let that happen. At this point I say release the kp2 with updated balancing and move on.

My summary of MKX: Great, but where's Fujin?

I hope MK11 has a far ballsier roster; they played it very safe with MKX, even with the eight new characters. I honestly like them all, although I'm not convinced that Jacqui was needed and she is the weakest MK character for some time. Kotal is definitely my favourite newcomer, and I hope he is a series regular now. I particularly like the fact that he is not an out-and-out baddie in the way Shinnok and Shao Kahn are.

I still hope we get our Martian Manhunter in the form of Fujin, but obviously at this point it'd be wise to just give up hope. I guess it really depends on how KP2 sells and what the final feedback is -- obviously the initial reaction has been pretty poor, but that's mainly due to Leatherface and mixed thoughts on trying to merge Baraka and the Xenomorph.

There is no way KP2 can outsell KP1 as the player base just isn't going to be there by Q1 2016 (and it isn't now, anyway) but realistically NRS will know this, but they're still going to have sales projections which they feel will need to be met if they're going to product more content. And obviously if it's not going to be on PC then they've already cut a chunk out of their sales.

I'd have liked more than one new stage, and I hope the skins aren't all novelty crap. I also hope we get four new compatibility patch skins. I've been slowly getting back into MKX over the past week or two and I do still really enjoy it, but I just miss my favourite MK9 characters (Smoke & Rain) and can't help but wish Fujin was on the roster. :(

My final thoughts about MKX. Hmmm...

Will do a small recap. PC Port issues, netcode problems, overload of guest characters, current milking of MKX with Kombat Packs (to be honest won't be surprised if KP2 isn't the last one) and dishonesty. Well. Normally I would write that my final thoughts are final and I am done with MK overall. Even so I will try to look from different perspective.

Game was and is fun to play. While online is broken, I still can play with my friends on test your luck without worrying about lag (my internet speed is more than enough), fun challenge towers. Love living towers. Love invasion. It is really fun. But all this WB money milking, left a massive stain on MKX for me.

In short flawed, but fun game. Even so, wouldn't recommend it to my friends who play on PC.

My final thoughts on MKX.....

- Ballsier roster would have been nice, imo, regarding Kitana, Kung Lao, Sonya, Jax and Johnny.
Instead, we essentially got MK1, MKII, and some of MK4 with 8 new characters.
I love most of the 8 new characters, but some more new characters or 3D era characters would have been nice rather than only Kenshi (Fujin?), given that this game skips over Deadly Alliance and essentially leaves us with a Dark Raiden Deception cliff-hanger.

- The story mode left more questions unanswered than answered, imo.

- Netcode still sucks

MKX is still fun for me, from time to time, but I think that after KP2 NRS should just focus on the next game, whatever that game is.

Speaking of next NRS (aka Midway Games) games, I feel like I'm the only one here who wants another Blitz or Blitz The League game.
Am I the only one who wouldn't mind a crazy / wacky football game with an all Raiden team mode or with bone shattering hits?
If I was able to either get another Blitz sequel or get NFL 2K5 (PS2) on PS4, I wouldn't have to put up with the yearly garbage Madden updates with slight differences.
Instead of people asking for SOCOM 2 on PS4, I wish that people would vote for a GOOD football game or franchise to return, for once.
Just sayin.'

P.S. -
By football, I mean the United States NFL sport, not the FIFA worldwide sport.
I'm not here to start an argument on the word "football," so please don't start that shit here.
I just thought that I'd clarify my use of the word "football" for those that aren't from the United States.

I highly doubt they will start working on the new game right away. They still have to shift all focus to Injustice 2.

As for my final thoughts on MKX.... I love it. It's a great game. Not sure if it's better than MK9 and if it is, it's only by a sliver.

I do have quite a few cons when it comes to MKX though:

-The roster is a hot mess. So many unnecessary characters that could have been replaced by characters who made more sense.
-Tanya as DLC felt like a huge slap in the face. Kind of a dirt bag move.
-Guest characters are not my cup of tea (Jason and Leatherface? Ugh). But I will admit I love seeing Predator and Alien.
-Online play doesn't seem to be worth the trouble.
-Much like the roster, the story is also a bit of a hot mess. They need to seriously work on that. Great concept, not-so-great execution.
-Bo' Rai Cho as DLC. Feels like a really bad joke, imo.
-The Krypt has always been a favorite addition of mine, but there didn't seem to be any good or exciting rewards in it this time.
-Some of the character designs are iffy as fu**. You go from some really great looking models to some really basic looking ones.
-Stage fatalities need to be brought back.
-NRS has got to stop dangling Rain in our faces. They make him DLC in MK9 (when he should have been part of the initial roster) and included him only in the story of MKX as a character with more to do than ones that WERE on the roster.
-NRS needs to bring back secret unlockable characters. Quan chi, Cyber Sub Zero (MK9) and Shinnok (MKX) don't count.
-Faction wars seem really pointless despite all the hype around it.
-The moving image cinematics at the end of each character's tower victory bores me to tears. They have cinematic story telling going on in MKX.... Give us some decent character endings.

Although I love the gameplay, brutalities and new fatalities, the roster is my single biggest complaint.

We should have had Baraka, Rain, Tanya and Fujin on the main roster. The revenants (the most popular) should have been KP1, the 'klassics' pack. Tanya and Fujin are very much the neXt generation. Baraka is the only representative of his race and Rain has been in hardly any MK's.

Too many guests. This is Mortal Kombat. I still maintain that the game would sell great without them. Especially disappointed with the generic horror characters. KP2 should have been Bo Rai Cho, Sareena, Lei Mei and if they really, really wanted to have a guest, Spawn. Not people who walk slowly and hack at you with something sharp. I don't want to play Guest Kombat. Why don't NRS just make their own horror beat em up?

I love the way the game plays but the roster choices leave me less excited for future instalments.

MKX ended for me before KP1 even was finished. I used Tremor literally once and haven't played MKX since he released.

The crap netcode kept me away from online and I can only fight the CPU for so long.

in short it's good (maybe a bit better than the previous) but the bloody ass netcode kills it for me like mk9 and injustice did i reaaly didn't spend that much time on it even befor KP1 i hope to the high heavens NRS has a competent server for the next game and just flat out throw what ever mangled mess there calling the netcode into a damn furnace and nuking said furnace in Chernobyl

My thoughts:

Story - It was okay, very predictable ending even without reading the spoilers. There were some unnecessary chapters but, I guess they had to fill in those parts someway.

Characters - I didn't mind the cast a lot, but what I don't care for and it's something they've been doing quite a lot lately, is make really awesome characters become punching bags. Obviously, Ferra/Torr wasn't going to have that big of a part to play in this game, but it bothers me that they're not going to be all that cool because of that. I wish they stop doing this to their cast, and it's always mostly towards their newer characters.

Modes - I dunno, for some reason the towers stopped having an interest towards me after I got done playing the 4th of the July premium tower. It was fun but it kinda stopped making me enjoy Test Your Luck.

Overall - My hype quickly disappeared after a month of playing the game. I wish it didn't because X was really fun. Oh well, maybe I'll look forward towards the next Mortal Kombat.

I still play it near daily

Started out with a weak roster, but now with KP1 and 2 it's the greatest roster I could ask for.

Netcode is ass, but I'm used to it.

Story isn't what it should have been

Gameplay is top notch for an MK game, all those 50/50's can eat a dick though

Music is the worst in the series.

Stages are as bland as they come

Costumes are incredible. A lot of GOATs for some characters like Reptile and Sub-Zero

It's very good but...

Pros:
* BRUTALITIES (Especially Kitana's BIGGEST FAN!)
* Faction Kills
* Kitana (I'm glad she returned as a default character. I was expecting Tanya, Li Mei, or Sareena to be I her place instead while all REVENANT characters would be DLC.)
* Mileena's Fatalities
* Fatalities

Cons:
* Tanya's movesets are very tricky.
* No Jade.
* No Li Mei.
* No SAREENA.
* No Nitara.
* Kombat Pack 2 Characters.
* NEEDING TO UNLOCK KITANA AND MILEENA'S MK2 OUTFITS BY NEEDING TO BE LEVEL 40 IN THE MKX MOBILE APP!
* NEEDING TO UNLOCK KITANA'S REVENANT OUTFIT BY NEEDING TO PLAY ONLINE! (CAN WE HAVE THE OPTION TO BUY OUTFITS FROM THE PSN STORE INSTEAD AND I MEAN ALL OUTFITS THAT REQUIRE SPECIAL UNLOCKING. A similar move they did to unlock the Krypt Items.)

At this point, I'd rather NRS said that after Kombat Pack 2, MKX will be done, and then they started making the next MK game.

I just hope for at least 1 of the following characters to be released as DLC before the game is over whether it'd be an addition to Kombat Pack 2 or the release of Kombat pack 3...
* Li Mei
* Sareena
* Nitara
* Sindel

Then in MK11 JADE makes a powerful comeback (and/or she can be released as DLC in MKX as well and still make that powerful comeback in MK11).

Well, i really enjoyed and still enjoy MKX. I think it would be nice if they could expand the story mode, adding more charpters (maybe some prequels to the story) and making us play as Mileena, Liu Kang, Kitana, Kung Lao... But after all shit they've done on KP2, i'm very in doubt. The sad thing is that i don't wanna wait another 3/4 years to play another MK game.

ROSTER (7/10)
Well, i think the roster choices were kinda right. Altough i think Johnny Cage, Jax, Kano and Sonya could have been out, some of them really makes sense on the roster, cause they are earthrealmers and they are getting old. So, next game, they have to pass the torch to their children (no, i don't want a Kano children next game).
Still think some characters SHOULD have been on the regular roster as Rain, Tanya and Fujin at least.

STORY (7/10)
The story mode was VERY professional and i loved it. But it wasn't very exiting and it was very predictable and full of holes.

GAMEPLAY (9/10)
Very fun and more easy than MK9. I just think that they make all movements are just too fast compared to MK9. The characters are so fast that sometimes you can't even see the whole move.

NETCODE (0/10)
Don't need to say a thing about it. It's the same crap from MK9.

+ Great character balance compared to other MK's
+ Excellent training room options
+ Graphical details like sparks when Raiden does his lightning attacks
+ Character select screen
+ Classic characters have iconic, yet new look and some of them look really cool
+ New characters designs aren't that bad(Jacqui haters can screw off)
+ Bonus stuff in Krypt
+ Some neat options (turn off / on negative edge or shortcut inputs)

- Grindfest to unlock bonus stuff in Krypt
- NRS' retarded balance and adjustment patches that hurt meta and competetive play
- No advanced tech (see above)
- Gameplay (for instance tournaments) is boring to watch
- 50/50 gameplay
- Slightly lacking graphic options (PC)
- HUD is made by kindergarten student
- Horrible performance and support for PC
- Guest Kombat X
- Awful music
- Poor stages
- Living towers lose to MK9's challenge tower in terms of variety
- Story mode's writing is lacking
- Factions are added gimmick after all
- Unnecessary input changes
- Netcode is terrible
- Needs friends to be noteworthy
- Gimmicky Brutalities
- No stage fatalities
- Lazy Kombat Pack 2
- Bland and boring color scheme (It's MK but come on)

6/10
