What character+variation will you main?

ill probably main baraka first and try out all his variations

sindels banshee variation looks cool ill give that a try too

after that ill try Nightwolfs Spirit wolf variation it seems promising

I have watched pre-launch streams, and decide to use Jacqui's High Tech variation 1st. I Will finalize this after NRS officially breaks down Jax and Jacqui today and i can see all of her options.

Honestly I can not say at this time due to the variation system though I can guarantee that I have my eyes set on sub zero

I think I may have to throw Jacqui into my list of playables, though probably not my main. Everything I hear about her is intriguing.

Kitana - Assassin
Johnny Cage - Stunt Double
Sonya - Covert Ops
Kenshi - Possessed
Quan Chi - Summoner
It's so hard to choose my mains because I like at least one variation of each character!

Dunno about variations but...

Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Kotal Kahn, annnnnd Goro are gonna be the ones I get into the most this time. I avoided Scorpion in MK9 because all the newbies choose him but dammit I wanna do him justice.

Updated List:
- Kitana (royal storm & mournful)
- Jacqui (?)
- Mileena (piercing & ethereal)
- Cassie (hollywood)
- Tanya (?)

Critical-Limit Based on the numerous matches we've now seen of Kano vs Mileena, I have a theory that I'd like your input on (and maybe this theory is the most obvious thing in the world and I'm just late to the party). That theory is that even if Kano (or any other non-rushdown character) is high-tier, he won't be newbie friendly. Is that fair to say?

So let's say day 1, I get the game and I log on to multiplayer to play with Kano (or Jax, Ferra, Kotal, etc), and someone else logs on with Mileena. Is it basically to be expected that he will outperform me in the first couple of days relative to our skill level, just based on the fact that Mileena is built to be the aggressor in a MU, which you can do by just learning the moves, whereas Kano requires knowing precisely what an opponent's options are just so you don't leave yourself vulnerable all the time?

That's the impression I got from the Derek/Tyler games.

Not Critical Limit, but he has taught me alot over the years lol.

A character being high tier definitely does not mean that they're easy to use. Kabal is arguably the best character in MK9, but also has the most demanding execution. If you mess up his Nomad Dash cancels even once, you're eating a full combo punish.

Mileena needs to learn the opponent's options just as much as Kano. As you've seen, she's very punishable on some of her attacks. If she goes in with a gameplan and has no regard for the opponent's ability to adapt, she'll get crushed. Knowledge of when to use Kano's parries is no different than knowing when to use Mileena's jabs/lows/armor. They're all about predicting and interrupting.

High risk, high reward, high skill ceiling. Makes sense. But some characters are a lot more newb-friendly than others, that's inevitable, right? It happens in DOTA games, and I've heard it suggested that Liu was like this in MK9, with lots of easy to execute combos, and unless I'm much mistaken Tyler implied that Jacqui would be one such char in MKX. I guess my question is if it's possible to predict which characters will be newb friendly based on past trends, e.g. based on mobility, playstyle, or what have you.

To give you an example, one of the best noob friendly characters in Mortal Kombat 9 was Sheeva. Casuals loved spamming her unblockable attacks, which worked great against other casual players. But tier wise, she's the worst character in the game. "Noob friendly" traditionally describes a character who doesn't require much execution. Like zoners. I'm not saying that zoners are noob characters or that they don't require execution, but new players typically go to them because it's easy to win by pressing down, forward 2 the entire match.

Still can't let go of that set I see lol

I suppose I should, after all, there is no boast in eazy victory... :p

STUDY, TRAIN, and BLEED MKX, as I will be doing, because we WILL fight again...
And I expect you to present yourself in better shape than our first meeting...

Learn all you can from your 'master', and apply his ways...

Then, I will challenge BOTH of you... and BOTH of you WILL FALL by my hand; Him for the first time, You, for the 10th.......

You know who you're going to use yet? I'm putting max effort into Full Auto Jacqui & Lackey Torr

I figured as much about Jacqui.

I Don't know yet, I actually have to use the characters a bit before I can be certain.

I DO know for certain Scorpion and Kang are going to be used, Ive used them since MK1.

I don't have 'mains'. I use who(that im trained with) best suits the situation...in MK9, sometimes the situation was 'hidden', so I find 'adaptables'.
