People's extreme love and passion towards characters

Ok, all you did here was share that you're like most people who can live w/o a few things they like in a medium. Because they have plenty of other things they like within the medium.

Radec has a problem where he can't even attempt to try to see himself in someone else's shoes. where someone likes a medium because of a VERY FEW select things. And once those are gone, they don't want it.

Hence why I said that I wish I had "Thanks" to give, because I agree with him.

As do I.
I gave an example of not being able to relate or see myself in someone elses' shoes, with a perfect example of 1 thing missing from MKX, and me being perfectly fine it and still being able to enjoy the game / series, despite it not having those very few things that I would want in it..

It seems that my preference for choosing a game because of what characters are in or aren't in it bug some people.
I've done it for every game so far. It shouldn't matter if I want MKX for Shinnok and Tanya or not.
I only purchased MK9 for Sindel, Mileena, Kratos, Baraka, and Jade. Still got no complaints from people being bothered.
As stated in the post of mine shared here, I'm only buying MKX for Jacqui, Tanya, and Shinnok. (And possibly Mileena) Though I don't see why it's being referenced so negatively.
As BAdass said,
The character is a part of that franchise the character is a piece of a moving cog. If subzero or scorpion or liu kang was your favorite character. And they didnt appear. You'd feel weird. Youd want them in the game. Dont attack others for their preferences and reasoning of purchase. Thats their money not yours. People buy and like what they want. They shouldnt be forced to abide by some other persons narrative of enjoyment. Everyone is different. If liu kang wasnt in mkda and i didnt buy it because of that. That's my business. Whether you agree with it or not is of no importance
My exact feelings. And I'll probably continue to feel this way for the future games.

There is a difference when it comes down to being a fan of the series and being a fan of a character. Who in the hell plays MK for just ONE character only? lol 60$ just to pick one person?

I disagree.
I am a fan of Tekken because of King. The reason I enjoy purchasing Tekken games, is because it allows me to play as my favorite character. King. So I can empathize when someone says they don't want to buy the new Mortal Kombat game because Reiko isn't in it.

A lot of MK fans jumped ship when MKvsDC removed the gore. Would you say that those aren't real MK fans?

I understand but this thread is suppose to be understanding(why)/relating to people who have extreme love/passion towards characters.

not to find out how many people are ok with 1 character missing. And I know commander, you'd be upset if subzero wasn't in the game. But I also know even with that blow you wouldn't leave MK.

I get it. But Radec someone you're trying to thank, is just kind of looking at people like they're ridiculous for having different standards.

Sure, but would you stop playing a Tekken or MK game entirely if your favorite character wasn't in, like others have said?

Yes, and I have a hard time relating to that being the reason for NOT getting something.

Exactly.

I find that standard (not the people who adhere to that) to be ridiculous, too, as I can't ever relate to not getting a game due to 1 character going missing from it.
If they want to not buy a game for 1 character, I do find that thought process to be absurd, but they are entitled to think what they like.

For Tekken, absolutely. If the reason I became a fan a certain series removes said reason, then why would I remain a fan? You love Mortal Kombat's story. What if it became a multiplayer only free to play game? Would you still be as much a fan as you are now? Because I'd call that a blind fan.

I hope I run into more of you guys who use 6 different characters lol those are the easy wins.

Jack of all trades..MASTER OF NONE .

LMAAaaaao it means im emotionally immature if I don't buy MKX a because Rieko is t in.lol you people. Some guys like myself really invest in the characters and we identify with them..

"OMG you identify with a fictional character"

Yeaa people like characters who remind them of themselves.

"Hereeeee's JOHNNY!!!!"

Sounds like U never played permodious on PS3..... Man you would've got Ur ass handed to you... Even by johnny. You have to understand that some people will have more time on their hands than you. And will be able to pick up more than one person and easily beat you. This is why I like to learn more people because I always use my weakest characters first. And if the person struggles to win then I know I won't need to use my best. But how many characters you use has nothing to do with how good you are. Permodious is number 1 on the KOTH leaderboards and there were people who used only one character and of course, they never won. I'll never forget those ass whoopins.

Most people will gravitate towards a select group or single character rather than spreading it out with the entire cast. Thus, I wouldn't look at the value of a fighting game on a cost per character basis. At the end of the day, it's their money, but I wish some people would be open enough to not lean on a specific character.

That being said, I find to hard to sympathize with people who become overly aggressive when the game is not catering to their preferences. Don't get me wrong, I complain about games all the time, but I never went as far as threaten the people that make the game...that kind of behavior reinforces the stereotype of video game fans being immature. Just as consumers are allowed to bail as they see fit, publishers don't owe the consumers anything.

If my favorite character was missing from MK (Sub-Zero), I'd still get it.
I may not be as happy about the decision for him not to be in, but I wouldn't miss out on the game, just for that.
If MK became a multiplayer only free to play game, would I still get it? Probably not, regardless of whether it had Sub-Zero or not, because I don't agree with those business practices.
The same goes with the mobile game.
If the mobile game mad microtransactions for things that gave opponents and upper hand (gameplay-wise) on the console game, would I be upset about it and raise hell about it? Surely.

You're comparing 2 different things; a missing character and completely changing the way that the game is played = apples to oranges.

Also I have one more thing to say, I know people are gonna mainly play one character online. But CMON there is no way you'll never touch anyone other than your favs... Stop lying.

And I'm not attacking anyone at all. I was just expressing my feelings on how insane it sounds to me. It's just my opinion. Not a personal attack.

And if 8 characters are gonna die are you mentally prepared? Because im ready for Ermac to die and I'll still be buying the next game.

Wow, I guess I'm just way to accepting of many perspectives on anything.

For example,

I would never pay for sex, I don't understand why anyone would. I think it feels degrading to spend money on that, and it can get quite expensive.

But I am completely capable of understanding that people who DO do it, are happy. So I remain completely non-judgemental of their choice. Just because I find it degrading to my own character, doesn't mean someone else sees it my way. If I looked at them degrading that's me pushing my view onto them when they don't see it that way. That would be me not listening and ignoring their POV

So I don't call said person "absurd" or "ridiculous" for doing something I don't personally agree with, if it makes them more happy.

Most people can't control what makes them happy. I have found myself drawn more to some side characters than the main characters of some shows. I did not actively choose to like this character more. It just happened that way. they push the main character in my face but I have only eyes for the side character.

To call someone absurd or ridiculous, for pursuing their own happiness. I'd rather be absurd and ridiculous everyday.

You're comparing 2 different things; a missing character and completely changing the way that the game is played = apples to oranges.

I'm not changing anything. The gameplay would be exactly the same, but it would remove the reason you're a fan of the series. Do you understand now? It may seem like a massive change for you, but it wouldn't bother someone who only likes MK for it's weird characters and not the story.

What you and I value are two different things. I don't care if they take out the story mode. You wouldn't care if they didn't include frame data. Different people have different views of importance on these things.

Bandai Namco removing King wouldn't be a big deal to some players, but it would be an omega level code black defcon 5 nono in my book.

I think everyone who isn't a jerk agrees that people shouldn't be THREATENING.

that dude that's around here posting Fujin's petition, is doing it in a peaceful manner. I don't think we should try to understand assholes, they can't be helped or fixed until some form of empathy is instilled in them.

I never did, though.
I specifically said that I may find that thought process to be absurd, but I never called anyone absurd for doing so.
As in, I may think that thought process is a bit ridiculous (aka a bit extreme), and I can't agree with that.

I can't agree with leaving an entire series or a game because 1 character is missing.
If that would have been the case, I would have left the Metal Gear Solid franchise after Metal Gear Solid 2, since Solid Snake (my favorite character) isn't in Metal Gear Solid 3, Peace Walker or the upcoming MGSV: The Phantom Pain.
Same goes with MK.
If my favorite character was missing from an MK game, surely I'd be a bit bugged out, but it wouldn't stop me entirely from getting the game and finding out what happens next.
Why not have an open mind and see where the game is going, first, before they judge it?
That's what I'm trying to get at.

If I was a fan of ONLY the original 7 and nothing else, I wouldn't have picked up MKII and MK3, and I would have missed out on what most fans consider to be the 2 best games of the MK1 thru MK3 era.
Why limit myself and just shut myself off to that experience?

I agree with this.

just like my SSBM example earlier.
Commander I know you're looking at story mode, and characters as 2 seperate things. by definition they are.

But BBBLP is trying to do. Is to get you to understand that hurt feel of something precious to you being removed. Me and BBBLP would still love MK just as much w/o story mode. If anything it would give me and BBBLP even more characters to play with because the focus is entirely on multiplayer.

I want you to take that "this sucks" feel if story was removed. And imagine that same feeling, being applied to a character for someone else. This is what it means to relate. Sometimes you have to use an example elsewhere or in another form, to try and understand someone's feelings.

the post you just made above this:

You're only looking at this from your own personal opinion/view. to YOU it's a weird concept to abandon a game for 1 character.

Nothing wrong with seeing things from your view. But I just feel like you're not even trying to understand the other people. You're so focused on your personal preferences and standards.

Who the hell are you? I didn't even know you... Please stop talking about me if you don't know me! I've stated like 1000000000 times i love Kitana but i will play with many more like cassie, Tanya or kotal, so if you can't read all the posts please refrain of making assumptions of me!

Lol nice,I agree with you..how many characters you use doesn't have to do with how good you are lol.I made a blanket statement.

I'm pretty damn good..not gonna even lie sell myself short..But my head isn't so far up my butt that I actually think that im the best.YES I have lost to users who use more than one or two characters.BUT MOST...MORE THAN MOST of the time I wreck those guys..

I've said plenty of times that people learn differently .I don't have to use a character to know how to fight against them.Someone else may and im not knocking anyone for that .This formula works great for me and im sticking to it.I hope to run into those guys who use more than 2 or 3 characters .its good practice lol..they usually tend to be mediocre with all 4 guys..

I have gotten my ass handed to me by people who obviously had more time me though...i just didn't lose a lot .

^^I get where you're coming from, but that example that you gave is completely changing the structure of the game entirely.

I never said that I wouldn't care if they removed frame data (your words, not mine), but yes, 1 character being gone wouldn't ever bother me to the point where I don't get it.
I don't pay $60 for 1 character.
When I buy a game, I buy it for the WHOLE experience, not just 1 character and not JUST for story.
I can't relate to those that have that thought process.
Sorry, but I just can't.
It's the same way that you can't relate to people who want to get MKX on PS3 or 360 (aka the "inferior" version, to paraphrase you).
If I wasn't able to get a PS4, I'd be on the same boat as those individuals, and you'd be looking down on me, for not getting the same "superior" version of MKX.
Different people have different views of importance on these things.

You're not a huge fan of Tekken as you are of MK, though, hence if Sektor is missing you will still get MKX, right?
I'm not a huge fan of SF, so if Ken and Ryu were missing, I'd probably skip out on it.
People who subscribe and are constantly on an MK forum don't seem to be the same type of person on said forum for said game, who would leave at the first sign of their character not being in.
Those 2 don't sound like the same person.
An MK fanatic or acclaimed fanatic leaving because 1 character isn't in, doesn't make any sense to me.
Again, a fan of 1 character who isn't a fan of the series makes more sense to leave, IMO, if said character isn't in.

"Hereeeee's JOHNNY!!!!"

No what you said isn't untrue.

RADEC failed to factor in MANY elements into his point.

1.) previous FGC experience. Chris G can pick up any fighting game and his fundamentals will be REALLY good. So he'll progress faster.
2.) Improving the right way. Just because 2 people are playing the same amount of time, doesn't mean their skill should be equal. People can approach self-improvement in better or worse ways. Altering how fast you get good.
3.) Brain endurance aka how long you can maintain high level thinking for long periods of time. Plenty of times online I get drained from trying ALL the time that I'll go auto-pilot.

What I'm saying is.

If we could clone the guy he's talking about. Have one version of him main only 1 top tier, and the other learn 12 characters at high level. the one only playing 1 top tier will outperform everytime. it's simple math really.
