I believe there is not such a thing like last name in Outworld or Edenia or wherever but Earthrealm.

Figured, but it's disappointing, especially because the new artist was obviously looking at the old pictures to draw the new ones, considering Kano and Subz's poses are identical.

If Osh-Tekks' names function like most human societies, and that's a pretty big if, then Kotal Kahn's father being named Kotal K'Etz points to 'Kotal' being the last name. We can then further extrapolate that Shao is Shao Kahn's last name.

I realize the danger and futility of trying to apply logic and reason to the name of a fighting game boss who was invented in the 1990s, but by clearly identifying "Kahn" as a title since then, the MK writers have pretty much opened that door.

It would make sense if Shao Kahn and Kotal were the same race. However, they aren't, so...
 
If Kahn is a title and if Kotal is a last name, then Kotal Kahn doesn't have the first name? :laugh:
 
Sometimes KAHN is something that was took as synonym of "ruler of Outworld" after Shao Kahn.

Onaga was only known as Dragon King.

Ok, this "Kahn" being title is very recent, but you know, still some unexplained thing.

I know I'm walking on very thin ice by continuing to apply logic to this topic, but here goes anyway... it's so extremely rare for a human culture to not follow the basic custom of "given name + family name." The only ones that are like that are some isolated, remote tribes that don't have a lot of contact with outsiders. This doesn't seem like a "human" thing, it seems like a practical thing. If a society is urbanized enough, its individuals will need concrete identifiers.

Shokan obviously have a lot of contact with outsiders, and if Shao Kahn is at all representative of his race, I can't imagine his people being remote, isolated nobodies, either. It makes more sense to think that we simply don't know Prince Goro's full name.

It makes the most sense to think that nobody on NRS has ever given this a moment's thought, and so Prince Goro's full name is Prince Goro, because Shokans aren't a real culture and therefore don't need to concern themselves with practical matters like having sensible naming systems...

Well, he either doesn't have a first name or he doesn't have a last name right now, because Kahn is a title. I imagine that being called "Kotal Kahn" is like being called "President Kotal," so there's no immediate need to know his first name.
 
What if - follow me on this - Kotal Ketz named his son after him: "Kotal" as well? Is it really THAT unheard of a father and a son having the very same name? I think it's pretty obvious Kotal is his first name and Kahn a title.

This is a bit pointless in my opinion. If Shao Kahn has a family name, he certainly didn't give it to the backup "daughter" Shang Tsung created in the flesh pits with some tarkatan flesh. But the fact we've never seen Outworlders with two names, while we have plenty of Earthrealmers with two, must be indicating something.
Even if he did, she never used it in all the time she's been around, and she certainly won't be using it with the royal title for the same reason we RL folks don't (and even moreso in a videogame where characters must stand out), to be able to tell one "king" apart from the other.

As example, senior members of the British Royal family don't use surnames either. Another example, the kings from the House of Bourbon aren't called "King Bourbon", followed by "King Bourbon", followed by "King Bourbon", they use first names, like in Spain where the royalty is Bourbon (or Borbón), King Juan Carlos was replaced by King Felipe. They are both Borbón in family name.

Plus, King Jerrod, Queen Sindel and Princess Kitana. Nobody is using family names for titles in Edenia.
 
LMAO I can't believe we are discussing Shao Kahn's surname, we don't even know if he had one. :laugh:

Mortal Kombat's "kahn" title means the same thing as the real life "khan" title. Did you know that "khan" was used in other cultures other than Mongolia as well? The female form of khan is khanum. So, it would only make sense that Mileena will have a kahnum title in there somewhere

Lol, Is easy call "looser" to Jhon Tobias if ed boon + midway was permanently limiting Tobias ´s space of work in the past. Also your comentary is very superficial cause dude, is not Tobias who is runining to mk, ;), genious XD

Also you did ´nt proof to me where Ed boon has invented to mk, XD............... credits are not enought TT. :D

Boon didn't quit. Tobias did. Therefore, Boon is a better person than Tobias for that reason alone.
