Something about the X "ninjas" I personally like.

Re: Something about the X "ninjas" I personally like.

Yeah, I wish they'd do away with the color-coded thing too. It gets boring always seeing Kitana in blue, Scorpion in yellow. But I understand why the devs do it; they want to keep things familiar enough so that people take one glance at the character and instantly know who it is. The problem is that it greatly limits creativity. This is part of the reason why most of my favorites aren't the old "ninjas". But, hey, it could be worse. At least these characters keep getting new costumes, unlike Ryu and Chun-Li.

Ermac and Rain aren't trees.
Visual recognition is a top priority for all returning characters. Care to see the Dallas Cowboys without the star on the helmet?

I find it quite pathetic how some people, even after MK9 which overhauled every single character and gave them a unique appearance + moveset, vote against 'too many ninja characters' in MKX because 'they hate palette swaps'. having said that, I also gree with cryo, they have always been masked and while I am not against how Ermac has evolved into a Sorcerer look and Reptile in his reptilian one, they all should be masked, at least in their primary outfits. also can't wait for the ninja skin packs we'll get this time around, that 'feudal japan' leak makes me believe we will see unique and new directions for skins now, the cold war and gold scorpion skins are already very different than just classic and in the last trailer the human scorpion and unmasked subzero ones were also amazing and with a lot of detail on them.

also, Rain looks a lot like this now: http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/336/4/5/rain_mk_by_letticiamaer-d6wgzj0.jpg , I think that if Rain is playable in this game and since they followed this, plus with that personality of his, they may go on an even harder Vega-like feel to him

Every game needs its own narcist, his own Vega. Games without Vega's aren't worth my time.

JOhnny Cage will never be the perfect Vega, as he's a boring goodguy, vain characters are ALWAYS evil, as they care only about themselves.

That's why I think its strange Rain follows Mileena, but he will probably have something in mind later on.

I really DIE to see him playable, not for his gameplay even more so for his conversations with the other characters in the start of the match. What would Rain say to Scorpion? Cassie? Ermac? Mileena? Damn Boon you better make him playable!!!

Oh, and i really hope Ermac, Reptile, Rain, Smoke and Tremor leave the ninja-wannabe group forever.

When you are not getting lost in the details, the base designs Sub-Zero and Scorpion's costumes haven't changed all that much. Also, there is more to the SF character designs than just their costumes.

What do you mean?

For one one, there is a decent variety of body shapes. Honda has more girth than height. Sagat Towers over most of the cast. Zangief is of a similar height, but has a much heavier build. Fei Long is shorter and has slimmer build compared other male characters...I can can go on. The shotos are admitted the least interesting of the bunch though, as they have the same build.

Then there are facial features , hairstyles, and mannerisms specific to the characters. Akuma has a face that resembles a demon. Zangief has a heavy beard and mohawk. DeeJay seems to have permasmile. etc

That's awesome and all - MKX is a step in that direction with skinny Ermac and lithe Reptile, but it's got a ways to go since I see every female shares the same base model - but we were talking about costumes. :)

A character should have a mask if it fits him. Truth to be said, it's POINTLESS that a character like Ermac has a mask.

I love the way they evolved Ermac from the extremely generic pallette-swap to a more undead sorcerer-like being in Deception. Now you can see his face. It fits him like a glove. He looks more like a "mummy", dead warrior souls sleep within him, it's far more fitting than a "ninja" look.

Give a "ninja" look and a mask to characters who are from a clan of assassins or ninjas. Ermac is neither, no matter what you think. For Ermac, it's the right direction.

I don't like unmasked ninjas.

They were always masked I don't see any reason to change that now, but as long as they have a masked version I don't mind it.

And I stated before that I liked MKA Rain (though MK9 Rain will always be the best Rain ever) but somehow they managed to ruin MKX Rain by making him shirtless, looks stupid IMO.

Do you even play MK? They haven't always been masked. Sub-Zero was unmasked even as early as MK3.

I do, do you? Because everybody knows Sub-Zero was unmasked in MK3 just because Daniel Pesina was fired so they couldn't put ninjas in the game ( Commander can explain this better than me), and both Reptile's maskless iterations (MK4 and MKDA) are the most hated Reptile version, apart from these two no other ninja had his face uncovered in any game.

So next time you accuse me of ignorance try to inform yourself a little better so you don't end up being the ignorant one.

I thought people wanted Reptile to be unmasked? I know he was hated when he was back in mkDa, but seems like people have flipped

A lot of hate didn't come from him being unmasked, it was mostly because he was too much like a full-blown lizard and it looked a little ridiculous. People like when he mostly looks like a human, but with reptilian skin.

Daniel and Carlos Pesina were both fired during the production of MK3, for trying to promote another fighting game (BloodStorm) with Daniel Pesina dressed as Johnny Cage.
That's why there's no Scorpion, Raiden or Johhny Cage in MK3.
Carlos played the role of Raiden and Daniel played the role of the masked ninjas in MK1 and MKII.
When Ultimate MK3 came around, John Turk donned the UMK3 "ninja" costume and did the roles of Scorpion, masked Sub-Zero, Reptile, Ermac, Noob Saibot, Smoke and Rain.
Carlos Pesina was forgiven by the time Trilogy came out, this Raiden returned in Trilogy, and a new person was hired to play Johnny Cage (the role which Daniel Pesina played).

That was a pretty asshole move by those two, promoting another game by abusing the popularity MK had WITHOUT permission!

But as Elsa sung, the past is in the past. :P

Yeah, I don't believe for one second Kotal was thinking "gee, I wonder who this purple guy at Mileena's side with water powers is?"

Sure, it sells the image of an assassin, but they are pretty pointless from a story standpoint. Everyone in the MK universe seems to recognize each other by now.

He might not need to hide from Kotal khan his identity. But who's to say a newcomer doesn't know who he is, or he's sent to kill a business man who helps an opposing faction. Wear a mask so they don't know who you are. If you stand around with your face exposed when you're fighting, you can't go buy an apple w/o being attacked.

Why it's best whenever you're fighting to be masked so they can never know who you are when you want to travel around w/o fighting.

Rain that shows his face can't freely go walking in earthrealm.

Rain that hides his face, can expose his face in earthrealm and no one would know who he is.

This guy for instance..

doesn't need a gas mask on every mission, but because no one in the Resident evil universe has seen his face, he can walk freely in society w/o someone trying to assassinate him.
