OK so I finally read the whole comic from start to finish (so far). Here are some stray observations:
-The art is fantastic in every chapter except Kotal's origin. I prefer the original artist to the new one, but the latest chapter was really solid, too. The writing's way, way better than what I would have expected for an MK comic, as well. There are mainstream Marvel/DC comics written a lot worse than this.
-I'm 100% convinced that comic book Subz is Kuai Liang (and 99% convinced that we'll see revenant Kuai Liang in the NR war). The fact that Red Dragon mooks think Sub-Zero represents Quan Chi seals the deal. We have no reason to suspect that Noob Saibot's true identity has ever been revealed to anyone, esp. not random mooks, so they have no reason to think that Bi Han Sub-Zero had any connection to Quan Chi.
-Quan Chi survives the NR war seems to be a fact? Weird that I've never seen this brought up when people speculate about what happens in the war. Red Dragon mook is scared of offending Quan Chi, so obviously Quan Chi has to be alive in some capacity.
-I don't think the comic is just teasing Scorpion's redemption. Yes, he's very angry with Raiden right now, but he's not letting that anger cloud his judgment. He didn't abandon Takeda and just vanish in a puff of hellfire to pursue vengeance, which is exactly the sort of thing the old Scorpion would have done. And he wants to rebuild his clan. I think this redemption story is legit, and I wouldn't be surprised if he rebuilds the Shirai Ryu during MKX.
-Kenshi helped Scorpion overcome his demons during/right after the NR war? Confirmed playable, as far as I'm concerned.
-Reiko has a very good chance of being in the game, but I've already discussed that elsewhere. Not confirmed - the outfit makes you wonder.
-Sonya's kind of bad-ass now.
-General Jax Briggs?
-I don't think we have to worry about Kotal going full-blown evil as a result of invoking the "gods before gods." I can't imagine that this story is being told in chronological order. The events in Outworld start with Kotal announcing that his father will track down Mileena and Reiko, a day passes and K'Etz is ambushed, and the story ends with Reptile reporting back to Kotal, probably late that night. It would obviously take Kotal some time to make the decision to send his father after Mileena and Reiko, and gather up a crowd and tell them the story of his "secret origin." So we're looking at a minimum of two days passing in the Outworld arc. Meanwhile, Raiden tells Sonya about Cassie being MIA immediately after Kotal walks through the portal, and it's heavily implied that Sonya finds Cassie's phone later that night. She says "Get Johnny, we're taking the squad to Outworld." To rescue their daughter. Is Sonya going to wait two days before she goes to rescue her daughter? Of course not. Obviously time can get distorted in a comic book, but I don't think they'd screw this up so badly. I think the Kotal part of the story actually happened before he went to Earthrealm, so we've already seen blood-cursed Kotal and he's no crazier than regular Kotal.
That's all I can remember for now.
