MORTAL KOMBAT X general discussion

I don't think having it being downgraded is a bad marketing strategy.

What is a bad one is having a series be a limited console exclusive that was never on it in the first place just to get more fans to come across the series. *cough cough* Tomb Raider *cough cough*

Before my boyfriend decided to get us a PS4, I was actually aiming on getting this for the PS3. There are just some that don't want to go out and spend $400 on a system. Sure, there's "saving money," but I think there are more important things to worry about than a system. I still don't have a car of my own and I'm trying my hardest to save as much money as I can to at least afford a used.

It's not a bad thing. NRS made the right move by giving the last gen port to another team. All I'm saying is don't expect any form of advertisement for the last gen verisons other than "yeah, we're also releasing it on the ps3 and 360".

Ah, I see.
Agreed.

Agree 100%

If you have more important things to worry about than a system then that means you have more important things to worry about than advertisement for a video game.

Get over it. Playstation fans have to be the worst.

I do have the money to buy the PS4, but I'm not buying it. For me it would be a waste. I have a PS3 and a PC and frankly, PS4 offers nothing for me at this point. It's the better console of the two, but it's still crap. How am I supposed to take seriously a system that just a few months ago added features the previous one already had? This is far from next-gen. I have lots of stuff to still finish on the PS3, not to mention the PS2/PS1 games. Will I be able to play them properly on the PS4? No, because Sony is lazy and just wants more money. Their streaming service is pathetic and an isult to the legacy games. When there will be PS4 exclusives I will care about and when Sony releases a PS4 Slim, I'll upgrade. But upgrading now just because of MKX? A multiplatform game? Especially when a PS3 version has already been announced? No thanks. NRS better deliver.

Ahh yes, the whole console war issue. Except I really don't give a damn who likes what, I was merely using that series as an example of poor marketing. I really couldn't care less where that series ends up at since I haven't been a fan of it in a very long time.

But, you keep thinking all us Playstation fans are terrible. :bird:

MKX will be on PS3. It's all I ever needed. I just can't buy it here.

Do you guys know if Amazon.com is trustworthy? Never bought there, though it's famous.

Except that console exclusivity has nothing to do with poor marketing. But, anyhoo. Carry on.

As a person who buys a lot of art books and other stuff from there, it's safe enough, I trust it. I've never had a single ounce of trouble from it.

I plan to get a PS4 soon because games are moving on to next gen. If you look back in the past, after a new console comes out then less games start coming out on the last system as time goes on. In 2007, the PS2 was pretty much coming to a end since there was no major titles coming out besides God of War 2, Persona 3 and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkachi 3 (Sparking Meteor). In 2008, Persona 4 was our last major PS2 game and everything else we got after that was sports games or cheap movie license games.

Since it's 2015 and the PS4 will be two years old later this year, you will likely expect more games moving to next gen and less games on the PS3 & 360. You can expect the PS3 and 360 to be dead by next year. I think PS4 is worth the upgrade since it's time to start moving on. I keep my PS3 for Japanese imported titles like J-Stars Victory VS, Super Hero Generations and whatever Kamen Rider game that they release in Japan.

I know, but it is still their game. They should promote all announced versions, ideally equally, not just 1 (and a half) out of 5. How do they expect to make a profit if people won't know what they're buying? If they don't show those versions or if they cancel them, someone could file a lawsuit against NRS/WB for false advertising. They should at least comment the progress and how they will differ.

Not getting a single screenshot since announcement... not a good sign. Either they cancel them or they will suck - in which case I'm returning my copy and pirating it for PC.
The previous generation versions are being ported from the current gen...and that porting is being outsourced. In layman's terms, NRS is only responsible for the current gen versions.

Directly, yes, they are responsible only for PS4/XONE versions. But it is still their game. They shouldn't pretend it doesn't exist. Whoever ports it, it's still going to be released with the NRS/WB sticker on the box. There's no way around it. And giving the excuse "We outsourced the port", especially coming from such an old company like NRS/WB, is pathetic. They didn't outsource it for free. It costs something. And it is NRS/WB's task to keep track how the studio that should port it is progressing to meet the deadlines and from time to time give the potential customers an update. So far we have heard nothing about these versions. They must've made a deal with the studio about the port prior to the announcement at E3. They should have made sure it is a reliable company. They are promising us a PS3/X360/PC release, but every day it seems less likely. So there are only two options - either it does get made or it doesn't.

Boiling down to 3 development scenarios:
A) NRS/WB are lying and there wasn't supposed to be any last-gen version to begin with and it's just a gimmick of false hope.
B) NRS/WB aren't lying, but porting the game is harder than they thought (ie the external studio sucks at it).
C) NRS/WB aren't lying, porting the game is easy, but it looks like crap.

I don't really care what scenario is it. It was NRS/WB's job to make sure they'll be able to deliver. They should have thought this through. If anything, they owe people an apology and explanation.

As for marketing the last-gen versions, sure, they're not the highlight. But they should let people know these versions at least exist. I bet 90% of people don't know there will be a PS3 version, cause NRS have been showing only the PS4 version the whole time.

I can check my GameStop app right now, but I'm pretty sure the PS3/360 ports are still available for pre-order. They wouldn't be if they were cancelled.
